  1. what do you eat when youre tight on cash? im not talking fast food , but something you actually cook at home. something less than $5 for 2+ people. right now im destroying some mac and cheese with tuna and some hot sauce. tastes great for less than a buck a bowl. another thing i liked to do when i was trying to gain weight a few years ago was brown some ground beef with mojo (marinade) and a cayanne pepper. when its almost done , throw a can of tuna (drained of course) in there and simmer for a few minutes then throw that on top of some white rice. amazing. my father in law makes some great stuff with ramen noodles too. so what do you guys make?
  2. just had my first interview in 3 months last night. they called me today for a second one. i have to go in on thursday at 10pm. the job is a UPS package handler at the raleigh hub.
  3. for general bass fishing , i dont think it would make a difference. i would check out the 30 and 35 size as well. as for a rod , i like them 6'-6'6".
  4. thats what it may come down to...
  5. it would be both storage and transportation issue.
  6. i think the largest i would like to go is a 1232. but at the moment , im set on a 10'. its going to be a while before i make the purchase , im just thinking ahead.
  7. about how much weight have to put in your 10'? im not looking to bring it out in a good size lake in the middle of a windy day , but small ponds or along the lake shores early in the morning.
  8. im about 150 and one of the people who would be going with me is around 225. plus battery and TM...
  9. thats what i was thinking , but ive heard it from more than just a few people. ive also seen some big boys riding in some small boats and moving along slowly. im sure they were pushing the 250-275 max weight by themselves. ive never asked them how they did it though ;D .
  10. i seen people mention that they have put two people and some gear on a 10ft jon without any problems. when going through the specs of tracker , lowe and g3 jons , the max recommended capacity is like 275 - 320. say both people weigh 175 a piece then gear , battery and a trolling motor would put you way over whats safe for that boat. at least on paper. do any of you guys do this on a regular or have done this before? if i do pull the trigger and get one over this winter , it would be off craigslist. what i was thinking of doing , was cutting the benches and replacing the foam with something better. ive seen it mentioned before , but cant remember the manufacturer/s. obviously a 12ft would be better , but i would need it to be as light as possible.
  11. wow. ;D the simplest things can make such a difference. thanks for the tip!
  12. ive only fished it a handful of times with 10lb line and smaller plastics like lizards. was all i had at the time.
  13. ive tried split shotting a few times and i didnt feel to good about using the harder lead split shot weights i have. if i didnt crimp them down enough , they would slide up or down on harder casts. and if i crimped them too hard , they would damage the line. i was curious what everyone uses for this rig. ive seen those weights with the rubber insert , but they have rougher edges that the split shot with the removable things on them. ive never used them but i would imagine you would get all kind of crap hung up on there.
  14. i guess that would make sense , but at the same time , wouldnt you loose fish? either way , im keepin em on. never had too much of a problem with hang ups.
  15. went out today for a couple hours. hit up yates mill since its pretty nice there. not too many people , and the park is beautiful. with in the first 10 casts i pulled up these two beasts on a small rattlin rapala - they surprisingly did put up a good fight on the UL rig. not too sure why some people remove the front hook , but i never do for obvious reasons. for the remaining time i was there , i didnt get anymore bites but i decided to stay out there since it was so nice out. all in all , i had a good time. first two fish in the last 4 times i went out.
  16. ive read a few articles about it and i still dont fully understand. during the year (spring , summer , fall and winter) , where do they go? in the warmer months , do they seek cooler water/shade and the opposite in the winter? what about when fronts come through? ive been out a few times over the past week or so and i havnt had a single bite. the weather has been warm for a few weeks then we started having cold fronts come though and the temp would go from a high of the mid 80's to a high of mid 70's over night then back to normal. so where did the fish go? i know it has been covered and the topic beat to death , but i was wondering if there is a simplified or general way to tell what they are doing or where they are going.
  17. ive never fished them weightless. always with a 1/8-3/8 unpegged weight. same method as rolo stated though.
  18. ive had my citica d for over 6 months. i find it comfortable enough to fish all day. i have smaller hands imo , and its not bulky. if you cant wait any longer for the citica e to go down in price , the d is a great reel for the price as well.
  19. after some serious thought and going through this thread many times , ive decided to keep it. im almost embarrassed i let it get to me , but man was it frustrating. the rod is rated from 1/8 - 1/2oz iirc , and thats what ive always been casting with it. maybe a little heavier , but never anything lighter. like RM said , i may just have to re-learn it. :
  20. im well aware of the difference from how it casted when i first received it from how it casts now after the oiling. i cleaned and oiled the spol shaft and bearing. basically the first page off shimanos bait casting reel maintenance page - http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/customer_service0/reel_maintenance_instructions.html and this has made a huge difference. i would recommend everyone who hasnt done this to their BC reels , to do it if you have noticed a decline in performance. i am not blaming anything or anyone but myself for the backlashes. its obviously my fault they occur. i have been contemplating selling/trading it for a spinning reel for some time anyways. i may keep it and give it more time , but i will always feel more 'at home' with spinning outfits.
  21. good story. im not quitting , just throwing it on the 'back burner'. im keeping both my balls. ;D
  22. i fished the 6lb cxx on my cardinal 801 spinning reel yesterday. while it does have a little memory even after some ardent line conditioner , it is very smooth and has excellent castability (new word?). i didnt catch anything so i cant comment on that part but overall im happy with it.
  23. like i said , i fished with it fine for the past few months without any problems. same two brakes , same way i set the tension knob as well. i just lost my touch. i will jump on another BC when i get more funds. ive always liked spinning reels better anyways, its what i learned to fish on. my birthday and christmas is right around the corner , so depending how i feel about the situation then , the wifey may put a citica e under the tree for me. also , the more i stick around , the more you will see i dont like to stay with one setup. for whatever reason , i like to try different things even when what i have works fine. im the same way when it comes to car audio. ive been through more speakers than id like to think about. ;D
  24. Miami and Broward Florida and here in North Carolina. ...i miss the peacock bass.
  25. ive spend many hours in the backyard with buckets and such placed all around. i was pretty accurate , but i really dont use any techniques that i couldnt used with a spinning reel. i find it just as easy to stop the lure in midair than i do with casting. feathering is a different story. well baitcasters are not going anywhere , so ill probably pick up a caster at a later time and give it another go.
