  1. i thought it was too. rather than searching for some input on specific equipment only to find a "it served me well" or "excellent 'x' for the price" , you can find a review. while i know there is quite a few on tackletour , it seems to be only be done by one person and doesnt get updated as often as new things are coming out.
  2. i was thinking about it...why not add a review section? i know there is and isnt too much you can say about a rod , reel or tackle , but to the ones who do give a good in-depth review , im sure it will help many members. maybe section it by price range (ie , >$100 <$100...) or catagory (rods , reels, tackle) or both. set up a format to it? how long youve owned it. what you have owned that you are comparing it to. how long youve been fishing with it. i wont mind if it does or doesnt happen since im sure the thought has came up, but it was just something that crossed my mind. thoughts? :-/
  3. i was also looking at the berkleys and BPS trigger and crankin rods. i think ill just go the tried and true route. more than likly i will snag something from the forums flea market. thanks for the replies.
  4. thats what i was thinking. the price and the very limited reviews seemed good though , lol.
  5. i searched google and found very few links to threads on other forums about them. some people saying the rods are so-so and other saying that theyre excellent for the money. ive never fished with any $75+ rod before so i really wouldnt know what to compare them to. but would one of those be better than say BPS cheaper offerings? what really cought my eye was the baitcasters with the warranty....
  6. i stumbled across them reading through some bass forums and from what ive read , they seem to be an excellent 'bang for the buck' type company offering a lifetime warranty on their products. the baitcaster cought my eye since ive always wanted to give it a shot but they dont have a left hand retireve in stock. the spinning reels look good and the rods seem to be a deal too at buy one get one free. i know not to judge a book by its cover and one mans treasure can be another mans junk and vice-versa. http://www.acadiasports.com/home.asp?ru=0&v=&tdt=&ssid= input?
  7. def sounds like a mullet. everytime i go by the canals leading to the local marina , i always see them jumping.
  8. trilene for me as well. i still have to get the hang of the rapala and the palomar. whenever i feel adventerous enough to drop shot , ill give it a go.
  9. thanks for all the input. im thinking a kayak would suit me better. i plan on buying a smaller car in the near future. something like a civic or cavalier , so it would be easier to load. love your yak Francho.
  10. concidering picking up a smaller kayak. specificly the malibu mini-x. i baiscly fish by myself so i think my best bet would be one of these. easy to store , maintain and transport. but i see people mention that even the slightest bit of wind can make someone hate life. i know that this specifc model doesnt track the best , but i think it would suit me better than the larger models and can be that much easier to store. at the same time , a decent 12ft jon or even one of those plastic mini-toon boats can be had for the same price. input? boats - http://www.klindustries.com/category.vml?q=3 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98185_225015000_225000000_225015000_225-15-0 mini-x http://www.boatersworld.com/product/363830019.htm
  11. what about red? cajun red. a buddy of mine always had that spooled on his reel and had no problem catching fish as far as i remember.
  12. i never would of guessed they could survive being out of the water that long. so , would it be safe to say - the warmer the water , the more easily a fish can get exhausted? on a UL rig , landing a 6lb fish after a fight lasting less than 2-3 minutes wont have any ill effect on that fish? 5 hours? youre a beast , lol. i wouldnt of even gone into work the next day.
  13. personally , i use 6lb line on my UL rig. concidered borderline UL by most. how long of a fight do you need to have to get a fish to be that exhausted? ive never had any fight last longer than a solid minute with any rig. now i have had problems getting the hook out and had to keep the fish out of the water for longer than i would of liked to get it out.
  14. i would like to see some as well. after fishing my UL for so long , i picked up my 6.5 foot medium action rig with a preident 6740 reel and realized how heavy it is. id much rather cast my UL or even a light rig all day that tote a heavier rig and be worn out after 40+ casts. im just concerned about the well being of the fish i catch after they have been released. like i said , the fish i have cought on my UL havnt ever been over 3 lbs. but id imagine landing a 6lb+ pb on a UL would be quite fun and id love to give it a try if i can make sure the fish will make it. id hate to see the fish i just cought belly up down the bank 20 minutes later.
  15. i was curious to see what everyones thought on UL fishing was. i see some people mention that its bad for fish and can be fatal if the fight is too much for the fish to handle and that it should only be used for smaller fish like crappie and baitfish. on the other hand , i see people say that they bring in larger bass , salmon etc on UL rigs with no problem. i personally have never cought anything over 3 lbs on my UL rig and that fight was less than a minute. so my question is , would UL rigs be good for catch and release fishing regaurdless of the size of the fish cought? i know you dont always know what will bite and what size it is till you land it. id really like the fish i catch and release to be able to make it to see another day. thoughts?
  16. all ive owned , as far as rods go , are ugly sticks. bought them all as combos for less than $35 and they have cought many fish and last as long as i want them to. even my latest rod purchase was a ugly stick LITE. much lighter than the 'classic' , tiger , and thier other offerings. and if something in the truck decides to slide over on to it and it breaks , i wont feel like im at a loss (at all) becuase it was cheap and does its job. also , a year ago , i didnt get to fish as much as i do now , so i couldnt justify spending more than the $35 on both rod and reel that will get used less than twice a month. however , i will get something like a triumph as my next rod purchase just to see what the hype is about and im certain it will be worlds better. but that doesnt make me regret ever owning one. my $0.02. edit - also , i just got the gear bag in today (from their free offer) and it seems to be made very well. for the budget fisherman , i wouldnt knock ugly sticks.
  17. floog president. mainly because i havnt fished with much of anything else besides store bought combos and i picked up a president combo for less than $60 at sports authority.
  18. learn how and when to use jigs and cranks. be consistant with soft plastics and try drop shotting and c-rigs. get a boat/kayak (not going to happen , but who says ill get everything i ask for?). learn to eliminate empty waters. try to get my fiance to go out with me.
  19. not sure if i should discuss that or not. :-X but i will say , that if i come across enough of them , i may sell them on the cheap here.
  20. i know there is alot more i can choose from that would suit my needs than i can think of. but im just trying to go with the ones that i can get at this price. just picked up a f7 floater black over gold , and a j5 black over gold jointed. i was thinking , how common is it to gut hook a fish with a lure? just seems to me that it would be a pita to take care of and have the fish make it. maybe im wrong though.
  21. great point. i always fish from shore. so i guess that limits me to the jointed and the floaters since their depth is 2-6 feet. thanks again!
  22. thanks for the reply. the biggest i think they have is a size 7. ill snag a couple of each if i can. should i use a leader with em?
  23. my UL rod is a two piece 5'. not too sure on the action. my others are 6'6" two piece medium and a 7' one piece medium. should i just try to get as many of each as i can , or just go for one specific? is setting the hook any different from setting the hook with a worm?
  24. i recently found a rapala UL lure set that was gifted to me last year. an origonal floater , fatrap , rattlin rapala , and countdown. all in size 3. ive only fished with either worms or live bait. but ive came across a deal and i am snagging quite a few other rapalas for under a buck a piece just because im getting them so cheap. so onto my questions. what is the preferred outfit to fish these? i only own spinning. im also assuming id be best using a floro leader 18-24" tied with a uni to uni knot to my main line. which is 6lb on my UL and 10lb on my others. both mono. my only choice on the ones i can pick up are the origonal floater , the jointed floater , and i think a dive-to in size 3 and 5. with only 2-3 colors to pick from. anyone i should go with over the other? tips/suggestions? thanks alot in advance.
  25. what about fish with smaller mouths like snapper. i went out to try my UL rig in salt water , pulled up a couple guthooked snapper. they refused to open their mouth and their gills arnt anywheer near the size of bass. so i cut the line right at their mouth and let em go. felt bad since one started bleeding out , but he managed to swim away....kinda. the other looked to be fine. :-/
