  1. as someone who is strictly right handed , id say go for the left hand retrieve. it feels much more natural then a right handed reel imo. and the idea of switching the rod from one hand to the other seems more like a headache than anything.
  2. these are one of my favorite plastics even though they are pricey and get chewed up very easily (***...you know what to do ). i went against what was suggested and rigged it with an unpegged 3/16 and 1/4oz weight. pulled in a 2-3lb peacock a few times with this rig. good stuff.
  3. bah , you guys are making a simple decision harder. after roaming ebay , i think im going to go with the abu cardinal 701 rather than the 601 then determine what im going to do with my 6725... it is still for sale though..
  4. i <3 the palomar. i also pull both the tag and main line to tighten. so far , ive only lost one fish (and an origonal floating rapala) and im sure it was my fault....man it was depressing.
  5. i think im going to pick up the cardinal 601 if they have it in stock when im ready. they seem to have a solid construction and suitable for saltwater. if not , my next choice will probabaly be a sahara and just keep the president since it is a nice reel. the only store around here that i could handle the reels im looking at is BPS and they dont stock them anymore. ive held a couple abu's before and they felt fine , so i would imagine their newer stuff could only be better...
  6. ive always liked the look and feel of cork....except when its wet...
  7. thanks for all the suggestions. i think shes going to go with the trion combo. the 2pc 6'6" M combo. i think she'll be happy concidering she doesnt even fish much at all. its more of a 'i want my own just in case i decide to go out with you' type deal.
  8. good point on the spawning. i did find it unusual that they didnt take off when i approached them. i was wading when i first spotted them , then i found an old dock to stand on so i wasnt right next to them. and yes , they are peacocks with a largemouth or two scattered in there. i completely forgot about wacky rigging or i would of gave it a shot. should i start with the smaller senkos and work up to the larger , or is that preferance? like i said , i only carry two rods with me so between tackle changes they did move a bit. funny thing about the rapala... i threw a F7 gold and black origonal floater and it got nailed by what seemed like a solid 4lb peacock....then the line broke on my UL rig. thats when i called it a day.
  9. today i went out for a few hours. i pulled 2 small peacocks and 2 dinks within the first hour of me being there. but today i had nothing to do so i decided to try different things out after the bite turned off.. i got nothing. so after searching around and wading a bit i found where they were hiding. they were maybe 5 feet in front of me in 3-5 ft of clear water. i threw everything i had (mainly plastics) in front of them. they wouldnt even budge. flukes , craws , senkos , lizards , swimming senkos , nothing. :-/ what do you plastic throwing people do in situations like that? i should also add that i only carry two rigs with me , a 5' UL and a 6'6" M BC rig.
  10. i have rapala trophies for the psp. and while it seems like a big advertisement , its not bad. just everything rapala. the game develop people need to come out with more and better fishing games. maybe rockstar (developers of grand theft auto series) and bassmaster classic team up and throw something together.
  11. the new presidents seem to have a better sealed drag and a more rugged construction. im not knocking the trion , but id rather get something else.
  12. thats what im thinking , but i want to try something new. its VERY bad habit of mine. i cant tell you the amount of car audio equipment (my other hobby) that i have bought and sold on the net. im always looking for something better. i may go for the 6725xt since i am happy with the previous model but...
  13. when looking at the front of the reel , mine wont engage in the 10-11 o'clock position. never had a problem with that though.
  14. i take a swimming senko , lizard , a super and tiny fluke , a craw bait , and a 10" worm. i melt them together end to end (or in a a giant ball for the ultimate action) with a 39/0 eeeewg hook with a 1lb dumbell on the end in a drop shot fashion. i call it the super swimming lizarflukesenkrawangry worm. but seriously , i just use what i have confidence in. flukes.
  15. you guys are no help , lol. i never had a thing for quantum. ive never held or fished one , but they just never interested me. i am leaning towards the president since they are tried and true and the new ones seem more rugged than the last. i have brought my 6725 to the local marina and brought in quite a few dinks. the line capacity isnt a problem to me. 80-100 yards of 6lb is more than enough from shore imo. ive sent pflueger an email asking about the weight of the new medalists. cabelas has the 7025x at 7.x oz but at 10.x oz on their website for the 7025 , no x. im just waiting for a reply from them. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0063830123941a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=medalist&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 :-/ the '09 symetre looks great but its still out of my range even on ebay since its still pretty new and id rather get that over the sahara. any comments on the cardinal?
  16. so , im in the market for a new UL/L reel for under $80. i currently have a president 6725 and while there is nothing wrong with it (just needs a cleaning) , i want to try something else. so far ive been looking at - Abu Cardinal 601alb Pflueger Medalist 7025 depending on weight or maybe the new President XT Shimano Symetre if i can find a new one with the right price. any other suggestions? the cardinal 601 is cheapest and seems to be of decent quality but it is reconditioned. id also rather sacrifice smoothness for a reel that will be durable and reliable as it may see saltwater a few times in its life.
  17. i always throw a fluke from shore. swimming senko has cought me a decent fish or two as well...
  18. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_101128____SearchResults thats the one she likes and id feel good about the purchase too. lol , it would be nice , but right now money is limited.
  19. cabelas has the 7025x at 7.8oz and the official site says 10.0 for the 7025. no x. maybe a cabelas exclusive? i think one of the two need to clarify that more.
  20. my fiance finally wants her own spinning rig ever since she saw the pink trion combo in the BPS catalog. does anyone else put out stuff for the lady anglers besides shakespeare/pflueger?
  21. No disrespect but this post confuses me. Which one was it? maybe I'm reading things wrong but the 7025 never existed before (?) This is a brand new Medalist just out, not the silver ones fom last year I think. none taken. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0063830123941a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=medalist&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/products.php?p=10 http://cgi.ebay.com/PFLUEGER-MEDALIST-SPINNING-REEL-6025-NEW_W0QQitemZ130105031609QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item130105031609&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 http://cgi.ebay.com/PFLUEGER-MEDALIST-SPINNING-REEL-7025-NEW_W0QQitemZ250401635590QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item250401635590&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 wonder why there is such differences in weight. i really wouldnt mind one in a xx25 size if the 7.x oz weight is right. but the flooger website itself states 10.0 oz. hmf.
  22. ive always liked the 60/7025 medalists. they seem a bit heavy though./
  23. i never have fished a pegged weight. unpegged.
