47" musky this weekend
Great fish! The markings on that one are awesome! Most of the ones my fishing partner and I catch on the Potomac are the clear stage where they have almost no markings what so ever. What did you catch it on? I was out the other evening for them and experienced something that I rarely see. I was throwing a top water prop bait and had a follow. Funny thing is, it wasn't a "typical" follow. This one, the best way I can describe it, came up from underneath it causing this massive wake under the bait! The wake basically grew under the bait and she stayed there the whole way into the shore, that's when it turned off and headed off never to be seen again. Have you ever seen anything like that? Just curious.

What kind of blades do you used on you spinnerbaits most offten?
Most of the lakes I fish are rather clear so I usually fish a double willowleaf combination. For stained to muddy or low light conditions, I'll switch up to either a single or double Colorado set up. I do like the Oklahoma blades as well (especially in the post spawn period). Check out Stamina Inc for spinnerbait blades. They carry the Oklahoma blades.

Quantum Alliance baitcasting rods
Hey All, Does anyone know who may carry Quantum's Alliance series rods? I have an Alliance series musky rod and absolutely love it! I'd like to see what the bass line up feels like. I did a quick search on-line (BPS, Cabelas and Tackle Warehouse) but couldn't find any on their sites. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Berkley Vanish?
Its too brittle IMO. I had the opposite experience of RW though. When it first came out, I thought it was pretty good but once Berkley introduced Transition everything went down hill. I don't know if I'll ever try a Berkley flurocarbon again. I'm using BPS XPS Fluro right now. No compaints with it.

Safe pike handling?
Hey grimlin, Yeah, they will usually shake a little harder than what a bass will (especially if they have any size to them)! The Lindey glove I mentioned earlier will help you hold on to them a little easier. When I grab a musky by the gill plate, I'll press my thumb on the outside of the gill plate) against my pointer and middle fingers (obviously on the inside of the gill plate) as hard as I can. I seem to be able to hold onto the fish pretty easy doing this. I won't hold a toothy critter this way if I don't have the Lindey glove on. A while back, my fishing partner landed a 42" musky (fishing by himself) and picked up the musky for a quick pic. The musky shook and his hand slipped and his fingers ended up in the musky's mouth. Well, it bit down! Luckily, he had his glove on! Said it hurt like H#@% but the glove worked the way its supposed to and he wasn't cut up!

Outboard horsepower question
I have a 16' jon boat and had older 15HP and 18HP Evinrude outboards on mine. Both did the job but would get my boat on plane. My Dad has a 14' jon boat and uses an 18HP on his. Not sure of your boats set up, but I put front and rear decks on mine which makes it heavier and I need a bigger outboard to get up on plane. I'd go with the biggest one you can afford. You should be able to go up to a 20HP for that size jon boat (check the specs to be sure though), that should definitely give you enough power to run the river (unless the levels are too high) and you'd still be able to use the outboard if you fished Marburg (20HP max).

I think we should all do this.

Safe pike handling?
I figured I'd add this about the different grips! Becareful which one you buy! Some of the cheaper ones do not have a ball bearing that allow the head to turn. If you get even a medium sized pike or musky, it may go into a death roll when you grap them. I know the Berkley one my Dad had intially picked up did not have the bearing and when he used it on a 30" musky it went into a roll and almost ripped the grip out of his hand and did a number on his shoulder and wrist! I know the Boga's and Rapala's are safe, not sure what other ones have the bearing.
