  1. Good point! How many people do you see holding a spinning reel upside down, reeling backwards
  2. you mean people don't fish year round? ;D If or when the lakes freeze over here, I just hit one of the two coal burning power plants that are close by. Warm water discharges keeps that water soft! ;D Smallies and an occasional largemouth and walleye too! Heck, I caught my only two muskies last year the end of november and the beginning of december. Bundle up and spring will be here before too long!
  3. I use the palomar knot all the time on my buzzbaits. I throw it on 14# Suffix Elite with no problems. The only thing I use 10# test for is crankbaits. If you're throwing it, well any lure for that matter, around alot of cover be sure to check your line for nicks and retie if you find one. Sounds to me like that's where your problem was.
  4. What a beast! Congrats! Ones that size are few and far between here in MD. I've only seen a handful that size here. Way to go!
  5. Really wish I could see the pics (stupid firewall)! Just curious, what lake you were fising? The only lake I've had the chance to fish in WV was Sleepy Creek lake. Awesome lake for the scenery but it was a bear for me to fish!
  6. Hey RW, I saw a seminar by Ken Penrod a couple years back. He was talking tube fishing for smallies at the time. He was recommending that you hit them twice intially. Now he was using spinning tackle (think it was a 6' 6" M-MH Gator rod) and it had a softer tip. Do you see the logic behind his technique? I'm usually throwning tubes on my flippin stick so I never tried or adopted his technique. He's actually the one that turned me onto Mizmo tubes!
  7. Mike, What rod are you throwing your lipless crankbaits with? I use a medium/heavy action rod with a soft tip so I'm not ripping the hooks out of their mouths. I also use a slow sweeping hookset as well. If you're hitting them several times with a hookset, you could be making the hook hole large enough that any little slack will allow them to slip out. I do add a second split ring to the rear hook only to reduce the amount of leverage they'd have during the fight. Using just the one extra split ring doesn't cause the hooks to tangle that often for me.
  8. I throw 1/8oz and 3/16oz spinnerbaits on my baitcasters.
  9. Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to keep an eye out to see if they do that at my wally world. The only problem I have with wally world is the heavist pound test they carry is 10#. I WAS a die hard Trilene fan for about 20 years or so but I've made the switch to Suffix!
  10. I use 20# Suffix Performance braid of my spinning reels all the time. Only time I have any major issues is in COLD weather (below 32F).
  11. LOL! Sounds like another message board I was on before I found my home here!
  12. I've seen speckled trout listed so I'll throw one in for a 15" rainbow I caught on a 4" Senko. Also caught about a 2" bluegill on a 5" Senko (if I can find the pic, I'll post it)!
  13. Almost forgot Limetruese for smallies!
  14. I am a card carry member of another organization from Brooklyn: PET THIS!!!!!!!! ;D Only from a guy that lives in "that" part of PA! ;D
  15. Paid $3.29 last evening. I'm getting closer to a full tank (starting at 1/8th of a tank on a 17 gallon tank) for $40! Give me $.20 more cents off and I might be able to do it! ;D
  16. You should try the 3 manned water balloon sling shots! ;D That was an interesting period in my life! Glad I was fast!!!! LOL! These days, my hobbies outside fishing would be, volleyball/wallyball, Battlefield 2142, pool (on rare occasion) and darts.
  17. The one lake I've been fishing more recently is on the stained side most of the time (visibility is no more than 2' deep at best). Firetiger has been my most productive color on that lake. For the clear lakes that I fish, Green Shad is my most productive color.
  18. I was throwing the buzzfrog yesterday at lunch time and started noticing mine running upside down as well after I had a bass blow up on the frog. After inspecting it, I found the bass must have had one of the legs because I found a tear right at the bend in the leg. After rigging up a new frog, the running upside down issue went away. I'm using a 5/0 Gamakatsu Deep Throat Wide Gap hook, which does have a little more weight to it then the standard EWG hooks.
  19. Hattackle.com! I tried Roland Martin's double buzzers back when I first started throwing Hart's but didn't care for it. IMO, the wire is too stiff.
  20. While its in the saltwater section, Quantum has the Cabo. I believe they still offer the MG Wide series too.
  21. Hey Muddy, The weekends of the 17th and the 31st look good for me in October. Not sure what November looks like yet. I'll let you know as soon as I have it figured out!
  22. I've been throwing Hart's Hartbeater since the mid 90's. When the conditions call for a buzzbait, I throw a double bladed buzzbait about 99% of the time. Hart's Hartbeater and Strike King's Double Take are the two that I throw.
  23. just remember....... "The power to destoy a planet is nothing next to the Power of the Force"!
  24. Come on! You guys are going to far out! Halloween is right around the corner! "Trick or Treat"! ;D
