  1. great looking bait, congratulations and best wishes!!
  2. Just a comment on lure retreiver sna dgettgin baits free. I own and use a telescoping lure retreiver sometims retreifing from the depths and sometimes from the heights!! I also have a lure knocker on a stout cord but last year at a tackle show I picked up a very simple lure retreiver and it is what I use first because it is so quick. It is about a 2 ounce weight with a large swivle molded into it. Unsap the swivel, snap it on the line and drop it in, it will run down to the lure and most of time it pops loose in a matter of seconds. If that doesn't work I switch to one of the others but this works 90 % of the time and doesnt take long at all.
  3. I will use a qualifier on my post - I realize there are many good online tackle retailers however I am going to use Tackle Warehouse as an example here as I share an example of purchasing between TW and BPS. Let's say that I purchase a 7ft, 1-piece fishing rod for $50 from BPS. Here is a breakdown of the purchase; $50.00 for rod $6.00 up charge for shipping a 1-piece rod longer than 6' $2.50 tax (Virginia) $7.50 approximate ground shipping $66.00 total cost for my $50 rod If I purchase that rod from TW, the total cost is $50 Bottom line is that it cost me 32% more to purchase that rod from BPS. Another perk from TW is that for an order of $50 or more there is free ground shipping, $5.00 2nd day shipping and $10.00 next day shipping (on most items). Just my two cents on this subject.
  4. Finally used my 110 last week, 50 degree water, caught several fish on it and had a few that just wouldn't commit. It will definitely see more use!!
  5. The FLW gets folks to do that for the college tournaments but you drive them around in your boat. Wed, March 16, 2011 1:54:35 PMFLW College Fishing needs your help on Smith Mountain...earn $200 From: Kevin Hunt <khunt@flwoutdoors.com>Add to Contacts To: deweyknight65@yahoo.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Dewey We have an exciting opportunity for you to be in the middle of the action at our National Guard FLW College Fishing tournament on Smith Mountain Lake Sunday, March 27. We need volunteers with boats to escort 40 college teams on the water. We will pay $200 for your assistance during the tournament, which runs 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Takeoff and weigh-in will be at Parkway Marina. Please reply to this e-mail if you are available to escort one of the college teams. You will drive your boat while the combustion engine is in operation (250 hp Maximum), and the college team will operate the trolling motor and determine fishing locations. Each team will provide their own tackle and related equipment. There is no need for you to clean out your boat. Please help us make this tournament a great success for our college anglers. Your help is extremely appreciated. 6. At one time I had this VHS tape and it is Glen Lau filming and Homer Circle fishing. Classic footage for sure!!
  7. I got some from the tackle shop on clearance for $1.00 per pack. Mine did not to sink very well (I was using an o-ring and finesse hook but added some lead to get them to sink a little faster and have caught right many on them.
  8. I seem to have the best luck with senkos and the kinami flash but have caught fish on other brands. Yum dingers, SK ochos, etc. I bought one of those 50 packs of "senkos" from eBay and they were definitely not the real deal so I use them for pond fishing and they do fine. I save the real deals for tournaments!!
  9. @Hooligan - if that picture is of the weedless wacky's, they look awesome. I have some on backorder and can't wait to try them. Just so others know that is a thin tube on the back of that hook to run your tag end back through while dropshotting and should force the hook to stand out ......... should be awesome. I am going to try the moto hooks for senkos too.
  10. @ J Francho - that is an awesome looking set up!!
  11. http://www.smith-mountain-lake-visitor-center.com/boat_ramps.htm this shows a list of some of the ramps, you should be able to google them by name for locations.
  12. You should be able to launch at Captains Quarters (on the left before crossing the bridge from the Franklin County side) or cross the bridge and then on the right I think you can still launch there as well but I can't remember what it is called.
  13. first I would say that it probably could be a fluke thing and could possibly happen with any brand reel. Don't under estimate the Curado, they are great reels. It does sound like you got the brush off but if the changes made in the store seemed to correct the issue there is a chance they thought the same and weren't trying to brush you off.
  14. The Zoom trick worms don't float but they do stand up real good on a shakey head. The Strike King Elaztechs do very good also.
  15. @ bowfish 12 _ I sure hope there isn't issues with the megabass vision, I just got one and it is the most I have ever spent on a single lure.
  16. impressive skipping. I can skip good with a spinning reel but I end up backlashing about one out of every three attempts with the baitcaster, any advice?
  17. We also use them with good success for stripers on Smith Mountain Lake in Southeast Virginia.
  18. I just got one of the Lucky Strike models, had to at least try it. I think it was $6.49 from Tackle Warehouse. I made the mistake of only looking at what depth the lure ran and ordered the 4 foot model, it is 1.5" long and .15 ounces and easily the smallest crank bait I own.
  19. I didn't see the blurb either but I do recall a comment made by Zona from the classic that in 3 weeks that area would just be a grass mat. I am not positive he was speaking of that area but if so would that prevent folks from fishing it? Just curious.
  20. and maybe a way to read the most "liked" or top subjects under each forum??
  21. nice one!!
  22. I have caught a lot of fish on the Yum Dingers but have noticed they are not always consistent in how they sink. Some of them don't sink nearly as fast as others.
  23. never used it on my knots but keep it on hand (no pun intended) for cracks in fingers!!
  24. I love the DT Fat 3 but have had 3 to break off at the bill (each on a cast and not on a fish).
  25. The spook and spook jr. are hard to beat, I like the sammy too but like someone else mentioned calmer water helps with them. Someone mentioned the Kelly-J, I like this bait but added a barrel swivel due to some line twisting. I also like the pop-r, G-splash, yellow magic and rico for poppers.
