Mixing Brands?
It's an individual thing, I'm comfortable with anything I'm using, if not it becomes a dust collector. I don't marry myself to any one brand and I mix rods and reels from different companies all the time. Ever look in a tour pro golfers bag? The bag and head covers may say Callaway with only the driver being that brand, woods may be of a different manufacturer. The irons may not be Callaway and the wedges could be Cleveland, and the putter could be anything......pretty common scenario. Tiger Woods plays with a Titlelist putter ( or Scotty Cameron, same company), with a worn out ping grip, he's made a putt or 2.

Light Flouro Knot
Just about any knot tied properly will hold. I don't care for palomar myself, but for people that swear by it, then that's your knot. Most of the time I use variations of a simple clinch knot for hook and swivel attachment. My knots will vary a little bit depending on line test, and type of line being used, this knot runs the gamut for me from freshwater to pelagic species. I tie the knot until it's right, any knot tied wrong will not hold. Moistening a knot is always a good idea, even braided lines. Knot failure is a rare for me, but it can happen. Two words are non existent in my vocabulary, Always and Never.

How Long Before You Change?
Me too, I'm just out for walk and some fresh air, if I happen to stick a decent fish all the better. The freshwater places I fish the potential isn't great, I get more excited if I happen to be with someone and they catch 5 or 6 pounder.

Better Check Your Dick's
My local DSG did not have the .97 sale, I did buy PP for 19.99 on sale. I'm going to trek out to another location that has a better fishing dept, actually quite good for saltwater, I'm looking for another rod that DSG handles exclusively.

Fishing..........
In the last 7 days I've been offshore 3 times. Under normal circumstances my equipment performs quite well for the species we catch, kings, bonita, blackfins, amberjacks and cobia. I have been spooled twice and had my line snapped anther 2 times. I've caught 40-50# tarpon on inshore gear and I'm using offshore equipment................what's going on, lol. 32# of Penn conquer drag and Avet reels don't come close to stopping them, I guess 300 yards of line isn't enough.

Walmart Stepped It Up, Amazing
Thanks for the info. One of the guys I fish with on occasion is a former store manager for Walmart, at present a store manager for Lowe's, he told me it's up to the individual manager on what each Walmart stocks. Maybe the policy has been modified, but see things getting worse not better in my area.

Last Shakespeare Sigma Spinning Reel Retired!
Speaking of Mitchells, I was out on the jettie this morning and saw my friend Gene. Gene is an immigrant from Rumania and head cook at Hunters Run Country Club. He's a meat hunter and not sportsman, he's daily catch is what the members eat for lunch and dinner. Today Gene was fishing with freshwater Mitchell that had to 50+ years old mounted on what looked like a barbie rod and gets hit by a 10# Jack Crevelle. Amazing how he landed it and even more amazing that the reel has lasted this long in saltwater, Gene isn't one for oiling and lubing reels..............lol.

Stx Vs Sx
The op didn't designate spinning or casting reel. I have 4 soron stx spinning reels, excellent reels.

Nice collection Goose..........cosmetically they look better than my newer stuff. The 50 or 60 might not be a bad striper reel.

How To Choose A Rod And Reel, Help! (Spinning)
Boat, shore, open water, heavy vegetation? I'd go with 6'6 6/12 med or ml for open water and if you're dealing with a lot of vegetation I'd go to the next step up 7' 8/17 rod. I only use spinning and have no problem fishing variety of techniques and lures. What size president ? Depending on size you may look at another line option. I don't give brand recommendations, especially not knowing the price range. What I like you may not, you may be spending more or less than me.

Mono Or Copolymer With No Stretch?
Free advice is worth what you pay for it..........nothing! When it comes to line, rods, reels, lures and whatever, experimentation is the best teacher, eventually you'll find what suits you best. You will make lots of mistakes, I still do. There is no magic bullet, except the a-rig, lol. If it were me, my focus would be on catching fish, the rest will take care of itself.

Angling Edge, And Nbc Sports.
The inspirational message at the end of their show has always been a turn off for me, I simply quit watching. I fully support the Lindner's right to air what they want, it's their production, but in fairness NBC has the same right to air what they choose, it's their network. There our policies on some forums that I may or may not agree with, not being an owner I have no say in what policy is, but I do have have the option of participating elsewhere. I see no difference between this and television.

I Did Not Know This About Life Jackets
I think hypothermia will set in faster in colder water. I don't know what the Florida law is, I've been offshore twice, Saturday and Wednesday. 3 footers saturday and 5' yesterday, it was rough, yet I saw absolutely no one wearing a pfd, whether moving or drifting, boats of all sizes. I've never understood why no one wears one, including myself and I've been on the water for 60 years. I do think there should be a law and if one is already in place it should be enforced.

Braid Or Mono?
IMO, if you are fishing with 4# test with a breaking strength of 8 pounds you are fishing with a thin 8# test line, not that is bad. The number on a label is only a number.
-
Braid Or Mono?
I'd go with the line that you like the best, I wouldn't worry about line capacity and break offs for crappie and small bass. Personally for light set up, I'd go spinning.

Nikon D90 Camera Lens Question
I'd wait, but this might give you something else to check out. When I was a camera buff I had dozens of filters, one of which was a diffusing filter ( it may have been called a portrait filter, not sure), clear center, blurred edges. Any 67 mm lens filter will fit, doesn't have to be Nikon. Just to give you an idea? http://www.cs.mtu.ed...enter-spot.html

Lake Osborne - Florida
I'm no Lake Osborn expert, I have caught fish on the eastern shore working towards Lantana bridge as Bassn says, there are peacocks there because I've caught a few, but that was before the freeze. On the map look at where Prince rd is near the campground, western shore. Plenty of parking and some shore access, it will be the body of water that has a couple of small piers, bass are in there. If you can sneak into the campground, you might do ok too. http://www.bing.com/maps/explore/#5003/s=w/5872/style=a&lat=26.603447&lon=-80.074409&alt=-24.477131&z=14&pid=5874
