  1. At face value I see nothing wrong with the flag. Not being a Chicago resident and being unaware of what is really going on there, plus not knowing the background of the artist, reduces my credibility to zero. What I think doesn't matter, IMO this is a Metro Chicago issue and for those residents to deal with.
  2. Most knots tied properly will not fail. The knot that works best for you and easiest to tie is the one you should be using. The alberto is an excellent knot, it's never failed me. I go braid all the way. A good step by step video of how to spool up spinning gear.
  3. Not much that can't be done with spinning gear. Bottom baits, top baits, any bait in any part of the water column, artificial bait, cut bait and live bait. Still fishing, casting, trolling drift fishing. Lures 1/4 oz to 2 oz. Bluegill thru sailfish. Have I left anything out? I don't own a small b/c.
  4. I don't favor one over the other. Bing may be more up to date in one location, a few miles away Google may be better. I probably use Google maps 95% of the time for a quick look see.
  5. Every color I've tried produced fish, as a rule I favor white or very light. The only plastic, except the rare use of a senko, are flukes and I use the same ones for fresh and salt water. Freshwater are rigged weedless and salt are mounted on a jig head, painted or not does not affect the catch rate.
  6. No, I believe more sensitivity is transmitted thru the line than the rod.
  7. Dolphins come, fish scatter, not good if you're out fishing.
  8. I totally agree with Sfritr. People will always put their own spin on things in hopes of making someone else look bad. I proudly wore my " Made in Detroit " T- shirt Monday morning.
  9. Leader line fluro or not is a bit more difficult than line of the same test to get a good knot, keep tieing it until it's perfect. 3-5 wraps on a clinch knot will darn near anything. Of the fluoros I've tried I prefer Vanish, price is right and I like the way it knots, I use 40#. I only go this heavy fishing ocean offshore. The rare times I use 60# or 80# I crimp instead of tie.
  10. The SB halftime performer is picked long before anyone knows which teams will be competing. Madonna was a good choice, having world wide popularity and the audience extends past our borders. I don't think there is anything wrong with a C&W performer doing the halftime show, but I also don't think there is anything too exceptional about them either. C & W more family friendly.......pure nonsense. I enjoyed Madonna and her ensemble cast, and don't recall any incidents, had a C & W artist performed I would have watched................ at least for a minute or two.
  11. It works, but so does warm water. I used up what had and didn't buy it again. Before my offshore outings I soak my mono spinning spools, then troll my line out, perfect for the day. I'm not against L & L, just like the way I do it.
  12. @ sqhertz I would check out BPS at least for a starting point. They are local and if any problem arise they stand behind their customer service. The sign on front may say Bass Pro but inside they cater to local fisherman, many of the sales people are saltwater anglers. I would think the same pretty much applies in their fly room, guys that do local flyfishing, take a peek, your under no obligation to buy. No question local shops carry higher end, but that's where the best advice is. Do some Google, see what other Floridians on a similar budget are using, I did and gained some knowledge. I would avoid buying anything site unseen on line unless you are 100% positive that's what you want. I'm not telling you what to fish for but with the abundance of species available within minutes of where you live, I wouldn't go too light. There are people that would die to fly fish in your area, you're a jaunt from Biscayne Bay and the upper keys, I'm jealous..lol Just make sure that's what you want to do, then commit yourself, I'll be doing the same
  13. The choreography and dancers were great.
  14. True, no new footage of Detroit used in the ad, but there were scenes of Detroit used. Asked whether any part of the ad was filmed in Detroit, Gutierrez said that previously taken footage from various parts of the Motor City was used. No image of Detroit was shot for the specific use in this ad. http://www.theblaze....ns-not-detroit/
  15. I wouldn't be limiting myself to just lakes, you're in Miami, all kinds of great fish in different locations. Not a bad idea to visit some local fly shops to see what's available in your price range, these guys love to talk fly fishing and are there for you to pick their brains. I would get local knowledge on what to buy and where to fish. Most of their equipment is higher end, but it's good to get an idea of what you can expect, never know what they may be able to set up. Local knowledge would be my starting point. In your area you have peacocks, bass, brackish smaller jacks, ladyfish all great on a fly rod, just naming some of the smaller species.
  16. Rorer 714 with a Ketel One chaser.
  17. There isn't enough bandwidth available. My #1 gripe are bright lights. I don't know if it's a Florida thing and who is worse, the senior citizen with blaring brights or some yahoo in a pick up truck with after market headlamps that light up the road a mile away. They don't realize how they blind other motorists and how dangerous that is, they refuse to go to low beam even if you click your lights at them. I pray that they get a blowout and have no spare.
  18. I've drastically curtailed my bass fishing due to my ever growing nervousness of snakes, it just isn't worth it. I'm fishing but a few locations that I feel comfortable with, but nothing is foolproof.
  19. As an American you can buy what you wish, we have that right. Being directly involved in with the auto business I bought nothing but American, if not no one would do business with me. " Buy American " has always been promoted in times of American economic chaos, one of my first encounters goes back to the recession of 81-82. Foreign cars were stoned, not allowed to enter certain plant's parking lots, even had companies asked me what I drove. Once the economy got rolling again " Buy American " became a forgotten slogan. Out attitudes change with the business climate. If one of my family, friends or neighbors stays employed because their industry was saved with taxpayer dollars, I'm all for it. I'd rather have people paying taxes, putting dollars back into the economy, than needing assistance which probably costs more than saving the industry. I can understand people being against, not directly affected by layoffs, cuts in pay and benefits, human nature to have one's attitude coincide with the thickness of one's wallet. For some that were against government assistance, how would they have felt if confronted with the possibility of their industry tanking and a pink slip on the horizon, wouldn't surprise me if the feelings were different.
  20. I liked the Eastwood ad best for a couple reasons. One, I'm from Detroit it was great to see my city highlighted, there is much negativity about Detroit and I personally know how wonderful Detroit and Michigan are. The ad was all about hope and we can get it going again, not specifically naming any one auto manufacturer, kudos to Chrysler, they showed a lot of class. Interesting using Clint Eastwood as spokesman, "Gran Torino" was about Detroit and it's a Ford product. Hasn't GM retaken the #1 auto maker slot?. True or not, just an improvement is good for everyone.
  21. I'm not familiar with the Skeet Reese rods, but I think they are the same as the Blair Wiggins. I have seen the inshore rods in action, excellent for the money and I would buy one. I'm in the process of pulling the trigger for a Blair Wiggins Flats Blue, haven't decided which one yet.
  22. I can only comment on the area I live, Delray Beach in Palm Beach County, it is a tough fishing area from shore, a boat improves the experience. I'm here because of gr. children, I can think of other Florida locations I'd rather be, but you have to go where the $$ is. I feel more of a threat from snakes than gators, I fish 100% shore for freshwater. One of the reasons I focus on saltwater fishing, both venues have lots of private areas with no access, I prefer not to trespass. I do no bass fishing what so ever from May thru October, I hate those annoying gnats, but I do SW fish every morning year round. I will give you one of my home made Cuda tubes.
  23. No baptisms for me, but the weather has been outstanding in Florida this winter. I have been thinking for quite some time about replacing my lost fly rod, I have several friends that flyfish exclusively. I know the exact species I want to catch, don't even have to go far to find them.
  24. Madonna was excellent, the ensemble of dancers and singers were fantastic, the set was out of this world. The halftime show was as good as it gets........Madonna, a real pro !
