  1. Fly fishing on the flats (bonefish, permit, snook, juvie tarpon) is the "in thing" now.............. This is where I'd like to go http://www.costadecocos.com/
  2. You should not be having a problem with those knots, try the double palomar and an improved clinch.
  3. 38-10 Brady...........
  4. Mine is fine, I'm using google chrome.
  5. If I fished tournaments I would weight them, as a recreational only fisherman, my fish only get weighed if someone else has a scale, and it has to be pretty hefty to even bother with it. Just knowing I caught a nice fish is good enough for me.
  6. Live bait is not cheating, just a preference, that personally I choose not to do. A few weeks back I was fishing next to guy wacky rigging and he was catching fish, I decided to try it for the first time ever. As rule I seldom use worms, what I do like about it is I get a chance to set the hook, which I do not do in saltwater, to me that's the fun of worm fishing. I rigged up wacky with a 2/0 circle, not having to set the hook due to the fact I was using a circle removed all the fun, I caught plenty of fish too. There is merit to it, hooking the fish in the corner of the mouth, no gut hooks and good action, but I would never go wacky again.
  7. Depending on what kind of line you wish to use and baits. If I were to use a reel that size with braid, between 10 &20# ( which I personally do) I would have the option of a stronger med rod, 7' 8/17 rod. If I chose to use mono or copoly I'd stay with 4-8# line and use a weaker medium rod, 6'6 6/12. With that size reel on either rod I would for see no problem in utilizing the majority of techniques. I do not recommend specific brands.
  8. I would value what 0119's comments are, he catches the same kind of fish as I do and similar tackle. On the subject of windknots, recently I viewed a video on what cause them. This may or may not be marketing ploy, but on the surface it did make sense, for me the jury is out. The video is on my signature line. This is not freshwater, but casting with spinning gear is the same anyplace.
  9. Statistics are misleading, not everyone fishes the areas where any records are kept. 5% does seem low, being in Florida 5# bass can become a reality quite easy. As cited in the OP " bass are easy to catch", a debate for another day, we have lots of bass in the south and the likelyhood of a 5 pounder is excellent. I don't think there is any question, at least in my mind, that location is the overwhelming factor in catching quality of any species. I fish but a few techniques with very basic equipment and have notched on my belt quite a few 5-10# bass and I'm not primarily bass fisherman, I'm just in a good area.
  10. You have little to lose for a deuce. Seeing as your from Fla, if they fail use them as a bucktail trailer for snook, I guarantee a catch.
  11. Retirement and a move to Florida changed the amount of time I put into fishing. I fish everyday and I love the species available to me, snook fishing being my favorite.
  12. I had some difficulty in finding the words to explain in, in reality it's very simple to tie. I'm going to try superslick on my next respool.
  13. Uni knot is good info for PP Super Slick. For standard PP and any other braid I've used so far, improved clinch 6 wraps works fine for freshwater and inshore fishing. For my pelagics I'm using 30# PP improved clinch 6 wraps, then double over before cinching, this knot has yet to fail me, going thru the eye twice imo did not improve the knot. I saw Henry Waszcuk demonstrate and recommend this knot on his tv show, been magic ever since. I'm going to give the uni a try this morning.
  14. I'm in Delray have yet to see a snakehead. @oldschool, I could give you a few tips on cuda, we target them quite a bit. Last of the incoming tide is best, non stained water very calm ( west wind). Most of the guys use 30-60# wire leaders about 15", the best artificial lure are cuda tubes. The bigger Cuda's are very skittish, quite often follow the lure but don't strike.
  15. For freshwater fishing imo 7' is the ideal length, you can do anything with it. I just got a reel out of repair, I have it on an 8' rod I use from the salt surf, been enjoying so much I've been using it for bass fishing the last couple of weeks, it is a bit heavier and little more awkward, 60 years of fishing has taught me one thing, how to easily adapt, I could use a broomstick. Offshore boat rods are a different story altogether, these rod companies know what they are doing, much of it based on what expert fisherman want, different rod designs for different species. Whether it be spinning or b/c gear the rods have long butts and long foregrips, the foregrip is an advantage in the leverage department. I'd say 7' is the most popular length, but tuna rods usually are 5-6', while a cobia specific rods are 8'. Why the difference in length, it's all about the way the fish fight. Some fish are heading to the bottom, a short stout rod handles them better, some fish run straight out sub surface with some jumps, different kind of rod is required to handle those fish. Handling a 100# tarpon a 5' tuna rod would be a tough task, conversely a 100# tuna on 8' rod would be equally as hard. I don't claim to be an offshore expert, but I do get out about 75 outings a year.
  16. You bought a nice reel for bass. I agree with Marty except my preference would be 7', but that boils down to individual choice. I have no budget limitations for my gear, I use a $54 rod for most of my bass fishing and I'm real happy with it,. I've used more expensive rods and really didn't see the advantage for me. Good advice to shop a sale, bring your reel and see what feels best and what your eye likes, confidence in your purchase may be more important that the rod itself. Don't get hung up brand, many good choices out there. I returned a $150 rod for that $54, it was a good move too.
  17. Br is an excellent site, especially with the new format, which I think is the class of the field, and I'm not primarily a bass fisherman. Fishing knowledge is interchangeable between species and venues. Fishing is fishing no matter where you are doing it.
  18. Let me compliment the angler, very nice fish. Posting a pic from another site is pretty easy. I don't understand why some posts from forums other than Bassresource are restricted and others are not. I was able to post the thread from the forum in question, being a competitive board I can understand it being deleted at a later time by a moderator, out of respect to BR I have edited it out. I don't understand the double standard, which I have also edited out. Powerpro Super Slick post #11.
  19. My wife and I were driving to Florida from Michigan, we stopped for dinner at a town so small it didn't have a zip code, food was sensational.
  20. With all due respect to Root Beer and his situation but why would someone want a professional answer from a non professional person? If I were Root Beer my response would be " I'm not a professional yet, I think a professional would be best to answer your question, I'd hate to have it on my head if I gave the wrong information by mistake." So often free advice is worth what you pay for it. My CPA has taken care of my taxes both business and personal for many years, a good friend before that. Would I expect him to work for free just because he's a close friend? He deserves to be paid for his time and talent. I agree with slonezp 1000% ! Success and generosity are 2 separate issues, they may or may not go hand in hand. I'm sure we all know successful people that are generous as well as many successful people who are not.
  21. I always liked Tennessee, nice state, very beautiful. Could use an ocean there and a good kosher corned beef sandwich, best Japanese dinner I ever had was in Tenn.
  22. A 3 for $6.00 I bought off Ebay. Have caught countless numbers of LMB, snook and my favorite Cuda top water lure. Yes I know there are only 2 hooks on the rear treble, I like it that way.
  23. Wind is going to moderate a bit, but pick up again Saturday. I did some shore fishing yesterday and it was windy. Last few weeks the bass haven't been nearly as hot as they were prior to New Years. Thinking I'm going to lay back on the LMB for a while. Last Wed as were heading in from offshore the Jacks were on fire in the P.B inlet, we stopped and caught a few 10 pounders. I may run up to my Jack hole in the ICW and give that a shot a day break.
  24. Rhino is right, feet change. One of my arches has flattened over the years and shoes are no longer easy to buy. I spent nearly 35 years in scrapyards, footwear takes a lot of punishment, I can't see any shoe lasting 20 years under that kind of stress. I bought what was comfortable at the time, probably never spent more than 30-40 bucks, steel toe or otherwise, got a new pair every few years.
