  1. I pretty much have been using a mirrorlure 17mr or 19 mr for my bass fishing over the last week..........excellent results.
  2. Why is there no " unlike this" button?
  3. @ linesider........I fish Redbones, I have 3 that I use for inshore icw, beach and jetties. I don't like spending other peoples money so I don't recommend, this is what I use for doubly duty salt and bass. Redbone med 8/17 with a abu soron20 this outfit handles bass well plus a variety of inshore fish, I've caught 25# jacks & 40# tarpon on it, of course most fish don't go that big, but as you know, you never know what's out there. Personally I like stradics and sorons, both handle salt water and both reels have excellent drags. If you shop on line you may find a nice deal on a stradic fi, I think I saw one at Dick's for 119. I fish between Jap Rock in Boca and Hobe Sound.
  4. The Shimanos are approved for saltwater, not saying the Daiwa will give your trouble, it probably won't for occasional use.
  5. The future is in question for every player, the same goes for Tebow......bottom line the Broncos with Tebow made it to the playoffs and the Broncos with Tebow won their playoff game and that's all that matters. Will they keep winning? "On a given Sunday", you just never know.
  6. I fish a small handful of locations and I'm about the only one that fishes. Some days I have to beat them off the hook and other days can't get a strike to save my life. I present the bait, then it's up to the fish, they are either on or off, they are doing 90% of the work. I know the fish are there, have caught too many in those locations, especially a landlocked pond, they have no where to go. My only competition is a family of otters and they are going to win everytime.
  7. Pretty much subjective. I replace my trebles with 4x for my freshwater lures and usually step up 1 size, as of late vmc has been my choice. I don't know who makes them but the stock hooks on mirrorlures are the best hooks I have ever used.
  8. Enjoy the winter, you ain't missing much down here. Myself and everyone I know haven't seen a fish for any inshore activity, we refer to it as the ("winter doldrums"). The weather has been too rough to get offshore for small boats, there was a tournament last week 1170 sailfish caught over 3 days, lead boat had 43 in 1 day, but those were all larger boats. My local bass fishing stinks, doing it everyday but very unrewarding, I'd almost rather be back in Michigan in front of my fireplace.........well almost!
  9. Only suggesting another option.
  10. @1234567, I live in Florida and fish canals just like you mentioned, I fish them differently. I use a fluke or any kind of plastic worm weedless and I cast on the opposite bank, I then slowly pull my bait back into the water, I get a lot of strikes as I'm entering the water. I don't use weight, I find since these canals are so shallow the fish will come up and grab it.
  11. Crappie jigs aren't just for crappies, LMB and peacocks love them, not to mention lookdowns, jacks, and runners in sw. I soft jig them and swim them. I use light bucktails and tied jig heads with about 3-4" streamer, which work excellent jigging or swimming( steady retrieve with a slight pulsating motion).
  12. Being strictly a recreational fisherman I have no desire to even try this. I've used umbrella rigs trolling for ocean stripers and didn't much care for that. This is just me, but to throw that A-rig a heavier rod would be required and as far as I'm concerned heavy rods are for heavy fish, light rods for light fish. I don't care use anything heavier than a medium spinning rod for bass fishing. If I were a tournament fisherman I would use every option available to me.
  13. @weezy...........In spinning it is the rod that supplys the power, the reel takes up line, not that a proper drag shouldn't be employed, I don't believe in "tail dragging" a fish in, I play them. I know I may have a few hundred thousand people disagreeing with me, but I would never consider using a b/c to winch in fish under 20 or 30 #, I don't see the need.
  14. Power? I don't understand and I only use spinning gear. If you mean reeling in power with a fish on, doesn't the rod supply the power ? I don't know about anyone else but my retrieve speed is predicated on what type of bait I'm using and at what speed I want it to travel, I'm going to work a soft plastic slower than a buzzbait. I make the choice as how I want to work my baits, I don't feel spinning gear should be operated in a mechanical manner, it's a feel thing. Gear ratio or ipt has no impact on what reel I would consider buying, I buy a reel for drag operation, smoothness and overall construction. I won't tell anyone what reel to buy, but I have 3 supremes, not xt's, one of which I used for snook fishing for about 18 months, don't know if you can see the reel ( same as my avatar) that's a supreme on a med spinning rod......enough power?
  15. I used to have a favorite but not any more. Everything works well, I take the outfit that is best suited for the species and location, it isn't just the reel it's the total package. I use a Star mh 7' 10/20 2 oz lure with a stradic 4000 20# braid and a Redbone med 7'6 3/4 lure with soron 40 15# braid as my most used outfits.
  16. Nice Cobe...... I like jigging for them with a bucktail tipped with squid in about 20-40' of water........wrecks are good too.
  17. Pretty much what RW does. I keep a few extra hooks or jig heads along with my flukes, that's the only plastic I use. I fish fairly spartan, 1 rod and just a few lures on my pocket. Offshore I use a soft bag, 3 boxes, 1 for all my terminal tackle, 1 for spoons and bucktails and a third for trolling lures.
  18. I agree with Deep. I don't find a stretch problem in using a leader, it isn't that long. I do it different than most here, I do not use a long leader and I never tie my leaders on, except for one species. I use a swivel and my leaders are around 15" long, works perfect for me, if I need new leader line takes only a second to tie it on.
  19. I always use braid and always with a leader. If you want to take some time out of your fishing day try untangling braid from a foul hooked lure, especially if it's 10# like I use. There are many people on this site that use straight braid in any water conditions and still catch bass, for me that knocks the notion of needing florocarbon leader for the purpose of presentation. I can think of some species that florcarbon leaders are beneficial, but overtime I found that to be hogwash too, fish production was the same with or without. I don't purchase it anymore.
  20. My optometrist recommends ordinary rubbing alcohol, he's right, nothing works better.
  21. Teebow rose to the occasion.
  22. Assuming the primary target species are bass, 60-80 yds is plenty of braid. If your preference is not to go braid all the way, then use backing. For some unfathomable reason that you tie braid directly to the spool ports, your chances of being spooled and having your line cut is less than me walking on the moon.
  23. Not luck at all, I use 30# braid offshore and 20# inshore, all you need....even my b/c has 20# mono, and a 20# fish isn't one of the larger ones. Jaheff knows as well as I do, it's all in how the you handle the fish and using the drag the way it's meant to be used, lot's of line doesn't hurt lol. @Packard.........the difference in saltwater and I will address inshore as we use the same basic equipment is that we fight the fish, not vegetation. If you don't know how to play a fish, you won't land too many here. You don't need 50# line to handle a 50# tarpon, you just need to know what you are doing............never get excited, that looses fish.
  24. 2 totally different issues......not to rehash the past for the first case except to say my feelings haven't changed one iota, what some else chooses to do is their business. In the second case there is undisputable hard evidence of poor sportsmanship, not hearsay. I don't feel any sport or competition should just sluff it off as "having a moment", fines or suspensions would discourage those acts. That's how feel about it, if others feel different, again it's their business.
  25. Not only is the price of oil a factor, but doesn't everyone like a pay raise? In any manufacturing operation employees get raises, insurance premiums rise, purchase or repair of equipment etc etc etc.
