  1. If my wife would be interested in leaving the house at 4 am, walking the beach in total darkness, dealing with no-seeums and taking a whizz in the bushes, she is more than welcome to join me. That won't happen and to be honest I'm not in the least bit upset about it. The last time I took her bass fishing was about 3 or 4 years ago, she caught some fish on a plastic worm and my job was hook removal. I'll take her any time she wants to go but she really has little interest
  2. Not my favorite bass bait but they do work, slow is the key. These are killers if they are any snook or tarpon hunters, I always have a few packs of them around in all the sizes. One thing I don't understand, if memory is serving me correct, one size is labled as 7/8 oz, seemed heavy so I weighed one and it was like 1 3/4 oz or so.
  3. I assure you he had plenty of teeth........it does look like only 1. That fellow standing there is the guy the professional hunter that caught him, I cropped part of picture. The irony of the pic is that i just left Verizon, but had decided not to get a smart phone (better camera ) HAHA
  4. 10 foot gator had to be removed from my pond today, It's been cruising the canal the last few days.
  5. Beautiful fish !! Good photography, it looks like it's 50#, my latest cuda was bigger and looks much smaller.....I had a bad photographer.
  6. My favorite lure is the one I caught my last fish on, good chance it's still on the rod. This weeks favorites, silver 1 oz spoon, Redbone 7'6" 8/17 rod, stradic 4000 15# braid.......44" cuda Blaze popper, Redbone 7' 8/17 rod, supreme 30, 10# braid............. apx. 9 or 10# LMB
  7. I use a loop knot quite a bit, very easy to tie and amazingly strong. I mostly use this knot fishing saltwater ( been a bit lazy this year using more duolocks), jigs, soft plastics on jig heads, spoons, top water jerkbaits, just about everything. I have yet to be with a saltwater guide that doesn't use the knot, I use only 2 knots out here, loop and clinch.
  8. I purchased one last summer, mounted it on a Tsunami 8' inshore rod. Using 20# braid I had wind knots constantly and I didn't like the drag. Catching 10# fish in the surf can be a formidable task and this reel did not make the grade. Returned the reel to BPS, and the sales associate wasn't too high on the reel either ( most of the BPS guys are saltwater fisherman here) upgraded to a Diawa Tierra 3000 better drag and have yet to have a wind knot using the same line. Playing with a reel in a store is not an indication performance, personal trial and error is the only method to know what's right for YOU.
  9. Sunrise an hour later, not good for me.
  10. Not a yes or no answer, depends is the right answer for me. I always use a leader with a ball bearing swivel regardless of spinning or conventional. Trolling can and will produce line twist, many trolling lures come pre rigged with leader with a loop on the end, I use a BB swivel with a crosslock snap. Basic fishing, BB swivel 15" leader with a duolock snap. For fish with sharp gill plates, BB swivel 15" leader and loopknot to lure. I make up my own steel leaders with an ordinary crane swivel attached to a duolock, BB swivel on mainline to a very short mono leader attached to the steel leader.
  11. Magic eraser works well and so does denatured alchhol and a rag. My freshwater reels are never cleaned, they don't get dirty even though I'm a shore fisherman, oil 1-2 times a year is about it. Saltwater is rinsed with freshwater after every outing, oiled a bit more more often. 7 days a week, 12 months of the year for both fishing venues.
  12. There are many days this time of year that I don't venture out on the water, 20mph wind with a 5' roll is too rough for this old guy. I go into withdrawal if I don't catch fish every day, I'd be fishing from shore someplace. Large fish to be had but can be challenging in both locating them and landing them.
  13. Perfect water this morning and I wasn't disappointed, glad some one had a camera.
  14. I have had good success with yozuri for both bass and snook, those are nice buys. BTW, was at Dicks the other day 2 Excalibur and or Matzuo lures for $5.00. I caught some nice fish on the Matzuo's, back today to buy a few more.
  15. I like just about everything Pacino has done.
  16. Absolutely ! My ex partner back in Michigan has been doing this. Either he makes money in the shorter term on the loan or he makes more money in the long term by acquiring homes. My son in law here in Fla is in the mortgage biz, has been telling me of this scenario of good credit people, with cash d/p that have had trouble in qualifying.
  17. It works well for hundreds of millions of people on Facebook, only testing it out will give the answer. I don't care either way, as it's my option to use a "like" button or not.
  18. My wife is wonderful and she has been a great mother as well. I buy what I what, no questions ever asked, but I already paid my dues. Raised my family, sent them to college, married them off and put away for my retirement.......... I'm just thankful my wife doesn't fish, I'm not about to stop every 45 minutes so she can take a whizz.
  19. A knot tied properly does not need any added strength. A good knot will hold a stampeding bull elephant, at least a bull dolphin, A cauterized tag end is better than glue to insure against pull thru.
  20. Short answer, no effect on me. The price is around 3.60 here, not sure how much more it is at the marina where the boat is kept. I did hear that it was 4.95 in California, that's getting pricey, and will most likely go up more at least in the short term.
  21. What does twitter have to with being ***? That's an insipid remark and imo has no place on a public forum. I use facebook sometimes but have yet to use twitter, I'm not really interested.
  22. I hit the ICW in Delray about 5 am, on the east side and a bit buffered from the wind so it wasn't bad, but could only muster 1 small jack. Stopped at the beach at Boynton inlet, a good 25- 30mph east wind with 6-8'waves breaking on shore, nice conditions but no fish! Went bass fishing the rest of the day, nothing eventful until dinner time, caught a nice lady.
  23. The fraying doesn't mean anything if the knot is good, probably another reason I use swivels for attaching my leaders. Tools are made to "coterize" the tag end but I don't like carrying too much stuff with me.
  24. I just don't see the need to use a long leader for bass fishing when a shorter leader with a swivel does the job, imo it's much easier. I can understand not wanting to put fresh leaders on while your fishing, but that only takes seconds to do and when I'm using a duolock my leaders generally last the entire outing.
