Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
I was fishing for bluegill several years back. I was using a little roadrunner catching them. I had a little 4'6" ultralight and 4lb test. I hooked a little bluegill that probably wasn't over 3 inches long and all of a sudden a huge bass grabbed the bluegill. I must have fought this fish for 5 minutes. Turns out that when the bass grabbed the bluegill the roadrunner caught him right in the corner of the mouth. The bass weighed just over 6lbs. Not a monster but it sure was fun!

Feb. 24... 8.1lb!!!
Sweet! It looks much warmer there than it does over here in the valley. It was cold as heck yesterday! I can't wait to get out on Anna here in a couple weeks and begin a new season!

A "reel" dilemma? (UPDATE!)
I had the same dilemma and fixed it in the fleamarket on here. I ended up getting a BPS Extreme and a Quantum PT Accurist for $45 shipped to my door. I've used both and they are like new reels and I saved a ton of money doing it this way! Just be patient and something will pop up on here.

Fishing is good for your health and you families.
That was a great read. I'm trying to tweak my diet as much as I can right now. I lost enough weight to lower my blood pressure to normal levels but I'm a predisposed diabetic and really need to get on my "A" game. I've actually planned to start harvesting some fish this year. Changing the way I eat is easy for me but it's tough to keep it consistent at home because my wife is such a picky eater.

Re: How many people in your family fish?
I can't honestly say I know of anyone in my family that doesn't fish. My whole family is a bunch of country folk and the older ones grew up fishing to help feed the family and the younger ones have just taken after them. I will say though that I'm only one of 3 of us that mainly bass fish just for the fun of it.

Finding discontinued lures
I'm not sure if I have that exact color but I've several of the Spro chuggers that I've been thinking about putting here for sale. I'm at work now but when I get home a little later today I'll check and let you know.

Polls: Any psychologists out there?
It took me reading this about 3 times to get it. Needless to say when I did I just about choked from laughing so hard.

My first purchase!!!
HAHAHAHAHA Listen up young grasshopper! You will find in the years ahead that it takes no more than a raised brow to land your butt on the couch. Good luck with that one! BTW, just messin' with you! If you can get the boat now and get it paid off you will be in much better shape. Once kids come into the picture the boat payment will be the first and easiest thing for her to make go away! Ask me how I know!

Tips for selling house?
Thanks for the replies guys! Thankfully I bought my house new and it's only 6 years old so defects are pretty much at a bare minimum. My dad has a friend who is a realtor and he came over and gave us a market assesment on the house. It was right in line with what I was planning on putting it on the market for. Like I said, I'm gonna give this about a month to see what I can do on my own and if it doesn't sell we're gonna list it with my dads friend. He's gonna charge us 4.5% commission so I feel pretty good about that. FOM, we're gonna do the same thing as you and might have to rent for a few months till the right thing pops up. It's just so hard to sell and find something at the same time right now. If it all works out we may just build again. Thanks again for the help fellas!

Va guys post up!
I've been here a few months now and I'm beginning to learn some names and the whereabouts of some. It's almost time to really get to fishing so I figured I'd start a thread so that maybe some of us that live close together to be able to hook up for some good fishing. Just post your location and maybe some waters you fish. I'll start.... I live in Staunton. I've got a couple ponds near here and the Middle River that I have access to. I also fish most of the smaller lakes in and around the Charlottesville area. When I can I fish the bigger lakes like Anna and Buggs Island.

For those of you who have buried hooks in your hand...
Word to the wise on this one! I had a hook imbedded in my right index finger about 3 years ago. I decided to use this method to remove the hook. When my cousin made the tug on the line and as the hook was on the way out the bard decided to grab the tendon in my finger! It actually pulled the tendon to the surface of the skin! Talk about some pain! I ended up at the hospital with reconstructive surgery on the finger and about 3 weeks off work from it. If I ever meet any of you I'll be happy to show you the nice scar it left on my finger. This is very unusual to happen but just be advised that it CAN happen!

Becnh Press!
My personal best bench was 385 and my best squat was 605. I also maxed at (if I remember right) about 330 pounds on power cleans. I never did dead lift. My numbers are a little higher but I'm also 6'5" and was about 330lbs at the time. You better not get too big and then stop either or you'll end up with man boobs!

Tips for selling house?
RW, I didn't take it as being negative. I know that the housing market has taken a beating and if I'd have known it would be like this now I'd have sold 2 years ago. Oh well, I'm still coming out with over 60,000 in equity in the 6 years I've owned the house!

Tips for selling house?
Wow! Very helpful post! From this post it looks like I've got the majority of it in order. If it doesn't sell I've already got an idea of a realtor. It's the same one we used when buying the house. I agree that realtors do work hard but I also work hard enough to not want to throw 10k dollars into someone elses pocket if I can help it.

Tips for selling house?
Thankfully I live in an area where the housing crash hasn't gotten hold of very well. I've been studying up and houses in my price range are averaging less than 60 days on the market. I live on a main street. I'm gonna be putting a sign at the road and putting an ad in the paper along with a couple of local penny saver papers. If I don't sell it within a month or so I'll just go with a realtor.

Tips for selling house?
My wife and I are getting ready to put our house for sale. We're gonna try to sell it on our own without a realtor first. Saving the several thousand dollars from the realtor will be quite beneficial to us. I've never sold a home as this is my first home. Is there anything out there that I should be aware of?

What got you hooked?
I grew up fishing the little river in front of my grandads place. We never caught much of anything but it was fun. I didn't fish from about 8 years old till I was 16. I remember the trip like it was yesterday. I had an older 2nd cousin who fished a lot but I never really talked to him as our family had it's issues. One day he just showed up at the house with an extra rod and reel and said lets go fishing. I hopped in the truck with him and we headed to a little lake down the road from the house. The used to draw this lake down in the winter and would refill it in about April. The upper end of the lake is fairly shallow so with the lake drained it turned into basically a river. I remember using a little 4" Renegade purple bubble gum colored worm. When you open the worms in the pack it smells just like grape bubble gum. (to this day it still smells the same and I enjoy the memory everytime I dip into them) We ended up catching literally dozens of small bass that day on these worms and needless to say....I was hooked. I fished with my cousin for about 10 years after that until he went nuts. His dad (my great uncle who I thought of as a grandfather) died from diabetes at 56 years old. He went into some depression, quit his job and just had no get up and go. It got to the point he wouldn't even shower. He finally quit fishing and we basically parted ways. I sure miss fishing with him. He and I made quite the team for several years. We placed in many tournaments and caught some huge bags. Every now and then I try to talk myself into stopping by his house but I can tell by the condition of his place that he hasn't changed. Sad situation but I still enjoy the memories and I'm still very thankful he stopped by the house that day. Maybe one day I'll make that stop. :'(
