  1. I don't read much. The last book I read which was about 3 months ago was Michael Chrigton's "Prey". Pretty good book I must say. I can't even tell you what my wife is reading right now. I'm not kidding when I say she reads at least a book a week and usually more. She spends all her breaks at work and pretty much any free time reading. It's crazy how I can say something to her while she's reading and she'll not only remember what she's reading but listens to me as well.
  2. I picked Zona by far but I also enjoy Ike. Charlie Moore rakes on my very last nerve. I refuse to watch his show!
  3. Welcome! I get down to Browns Summit a few times a year visiting the wifes family and we always make trips to the local lakes. Maybe I'll hollar at you next time I'm down that way.
  4. You did exactly what you should have. Even if he'd have robbed you causing no physical harm the emotional trauma to your daughter would have been immense. I'm always paranoid about people and i'm always watching people and their actions. Good job!

Very interesting! Part of me says leave the pros alone yet the competitive side says why the heck not. As the article stated, Smith Mountain Lake has more than enough room for a couple hundred fishermen.
  6. I feel the same way about the Senko. My brother in law has great luck with them when we fish together but I can't buy a bite on one. I usually then switch back to the Fluke and slay em!
  7. Thanks guys! I've been reading reviews and it seems the Mustang is definitely the way to go.
  8. I've thought about going this weekend but the ice is kinda hard to get the bait through on the ponds right now.
  9. Mine would be the boats I have right now. My mother in law handed me the title to the jon boat and said enjoy it since they didn't use it. While at my father in laws house one day we were out looking at his Quantum Fish and Ski and he handed me the keys and said use it for the grandkids. He hasn't signed the title over to it but it's been in my driveway for almost a year now. I'm very grateful for my in laws!
  10. I'll also add that when you twitch make sure the rod tip shoots back at the bait just a bit to give it a little slack line. If you don't do this you won't get the action it's designed to have.
  11. If it makes you feel any better it was 7* here this morning and 8* yesterday morning and there is about 4" of snow on the ground. Oh yeah, all ponds are frozen over. It's calling for 60* here on Saturday and not a darn thing you can do to fish!
  12. I'm planning on buying an inflatable life jacket this year. I've been fishing off a bassboat for 13 years and have been lucky enough not to fall in but I know it will eventually happen. It wouldn't be so bad but I'm not the most competent swimmer. In the hot summer sun I HATE wearing a normal lifejacket because I sweat like a hog. I'm hoping an inflatable will make me wear it more often. Also, I'm no small chicken. I weight in at over 320lbs and 6'5". Will just the average inflatable be enough to float me?
  13. Welcome!
  14. Thanks! I figured that's all it was but I'm battery illiterate and had to ask.
  15. There are many great places in Va to spend a little time in the spring. If you are after a hawg then check out Briery Creek Lake. It's 800 acres of THICK standing timber and numberous 10+ pound bass come from here every spring. It's a 10hp and hunder lake but a trolling motor on a bass boat works fine there. If you want to get out on a good piece of water that produces the most va state citation (8lb+) bass then visit Lake Anna. It's just north of Richmond with 13,000 acres. For numbers I'd have to recommend Buggs Island. Miles and miles of great fishing. Boat traffic is here is nothing. The crappie and catfishing here is also about as good as it gets. Hope this helps.
  16. This is part of the reason places get shut down! Even if they say no you have to respect the fact that it's their property so no thanks, I'll go elsewhere.
  17. Well, so much for that. The owner told me that the construction company used to let you sign waivers and get passes to go in there but their insurance company told them they had to stop about 2 years ago. What a bummer. That's one very nice looking piece of water.
  18. I keep seeing everyone recommend a size 27 battery for everything. Question is why is the 27 much better? I'm assuming it'll have more capacity for a long day on the water but is there necessarily any more power? Reason I'm asking is that I have 2 batteries that I use for the 24 volt tm in the bassboat and I always pull the size 24 out to use when I take the jon boat out. I do it purely for less weight. The 24 has more than enough power to run me all day but I was just wondering if there was really a difference.
  19. Yep, I just pulled the blades of about 5 of my spinnerbaits to do just this.
  20. Take some time and play with how you insert the hook into the fluke. I've been using flukes as my primary bait for several years now and have found a way to make them stay down in the water. When you insert the hook into the fluke you need to angle the point of the hook from the top edge of the head towards the belly opening. By putting this slight angle on the bait it makes the head grab the water a little better which in turn makes the bait stay a few inches under the surface.
  21. Bayliner is manufactured Quantum bass boats also. It's an identical boat to what you show there. My father in law purchased a 96 Quantum about 5 years ago. He didn't use it much and never took care of it and let is set for 3 straight years. He gave the boat to me and it's sitting in my driveway right now. The decks are made of plywood and the 96 is already getting soft. The carpet on these boats is also crap. Remember, this boat was not taken care of either so that 's the only thing I have to base an opinion on. I will say though, these boats are made as fish and skis although they don't have the typical look to them. They ride SMOOTH! I'm in awe at how well they take rough water. Mine is an 18'8" with a Force 120 and it'll run about 40mph. All around I'd have to say it's a good entry level boat if you're not picky about the little things.
  22. I've been just looking at google earth and seeing bodies of water and just riding around checking them out. I found an old quarry pond today that looks insane. It's about 5 acres of water and is greenish clear. It's basically a big pit in the ground. There must have been 100 geese on it too. This pond is completely hidden from everything and sits in the midst of several businesses. This whole area is all new developement and the realtor has signs everywhere. I investigated and looked up owners of the property online and the owner is also the realtor for it. I want to ask for permission to fish it but don't want to fudge it up because like I said this place looks amazing. How should I go about asking?
  23. That was a great show. My wife was even interested in watching it. I had to laugh at how he ended it with the little cat. ;D
  24. Welcome!
  25. I'm the resident cheapskate here so I'll give my opinion on this one. I say look at he Berkely Lightning series of rods. I love these rods and have yet to break one. You can easily get one of these in the 30-40 range.
