I have 10" Humminbirds both at the bow and console. Both are side imaging units. Both are tied into a Minn Kota Terrova with Ipilot Link. Keep in mind, your Minn Kota must have Link capabilities to tie into the graphs. The standard Ipilot units work independently and will not tie into the Humminbirds. The newest Minn Kotas have a DI transducer option. If you want SI/DI on the trolling motor, you will still need to use the external transducer and attach it to the TM. Contrary to what was mentioned above, I never use DI, and rely on both 2d and SI for both the bow and console units. Something to think about. Your bow is where you're going to be doing most of your fishing. Shouldn't that be the unit that has more options? Use the console unit to locate structure and fish while underway and use the bow unit to pinpoint the structure and fish you've located. I say both units should have equal capabilities. If not, give preference to the unit where you will spend most of your time fishing.

May I suggest going to a BPS or Cabelas or Academy and taking a look at what they have to offer. See what brand(s) appeal to you with features and ease of use in your price range. Then, go home and look up every video on youtube on the brand(s), model(s) that appeal to you. Most importantly, look up videos on how to interpret what you are looking at. Also, take note, not all models of all brands are turn key out of the box. Don't be fooled by Lowrance as some models are turn key and some are just display units without transducers or gps...Read the box. All Humminbird units come with transducers and internal gps and the features included are spelled out clearly. Garmin freshwater units come with a standard transducer for a particular model as well. Raymarine units include transducers, but have multiple models depending on what options you want...Read the box.

For a week they have been predicting 1-3 inches of rain followed by 1/4" of freezing rain, and potentially a foot of snow for today. Well, we got under an inch of rain, no freezing rain, and not even a dusting of snow.

I have fished Santee Cooper and did it in a 17ft aluminum. The alligators tossed the boat around more than the wind and the stumps...LOL If the majority of your water is small, than why go big? The 2 bodies of waters I primarily fish are complete opposites. A 9000 acre impoundment, which is the busiest fresh water waterway per acre in the US and the Great Lakes. 4000 acres is nothing in the grand scheme of things. For 10 grand, I would go with the Tracker providing it checks out mechanically.

Any water that has heavy boat traffic or big water. Require is relative. Big water is relative. Large shallow water reservoirs tend to get rough with less wind than their deeper counterparts. Powerplant cooling lakes are designed to "catch" wind to help cool the water and tend to be rougher with less wind. A 17ft boat will react differently on a 300 acre lake, than a 3,000 acre lake, than a 30,000 acre lake under the same conditions. In general, a fiberglass hull will handle rough conditions better just because the hull weighs more than an aluminum. I have an aluminum hulled boat that will handle rough conditions better than similar fiberglass hulls, simply because it was designed that way. If you are fishing small impoundments, the Tracker is the way to go.

20 year old glass boat vs 16 year glass old boat vs 10 year old tin boat. If the waters you plan on fishing don't require a fiberglass boat, providing the motor checks out, I think the choice is obvious.

In most cases, there is only one wheel doing the work. Rear wheel drive uses a single wheel until the wheel begins to slip. Modern trucks will have a mechanical or electronic lock on the differential which will engage the second rear wheel.

He has about 40ft of frontage, a small pier, and a cement seawall. Borders a home on one side and the public beach on the other side. I'm giving him the 14ft Lund as a housewarming gift. I brought the little guy with me today along with wifey and momma and the first thing he wanted to do is go see the water. I've created a monster.

Depends on the ramp. Depends on the weather. Reasons to have 4wd. Gravel, sand, algae, ice, shallow cement ramps, short cement ramps....and operator error. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

My son closed on his house Friday. Went to go see it today. The lake he is on is wide open.

It's been January since July for me, which was the last time I wet a line. Last years family issues have been resolved with both death and life. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, and the warm winter I'll be hitting the water again real soon. My boy bought his first house today. I'm proud. I'm jealous. Lakefront property. I'm giving him the 14 foot Lund for a housewarming gift.
