Flipping Spoons In Timber
Is this a common practice? I caught part of a fishing show today and they were flipping spoons for spotted bass on Lake Shasta. Never heard of it before. They claimed the treble hook won't get hung up in the timber. I find that hard to believe. The spoons they were using did not seem like a typical spoon either and maybe that's the difference. Please enlighten me.

Hooked Hull
I don't know either, but this is the second one I've heard of in as many weeks. The other one is on a Charger.

Commercial refrigeration mechanic. I keep beer cold and food fresh. I'm in my mid 40's and soon to be in the same boat as you. Do to an injury last year, looks like I'm not going back to work at full capacity if at all. My advice to you is to find something that really peaks your interest. It will seem a lot less like work. If you have no conscience or shame and want to become rich at the expense of others, become a politician

Shot To Death Over Fishing Tackle
There was a walleye tourney a couple years ago on the Wisconsin River. They stripped the boats down including kicker motors. Best bet is to drag all your crap inside with you and leave the storage unlocked. It prevents damage to the boat and the scum will be on there way with nothing to steal.

Fish Finder Setup
There is nothing wrong with that. Ideally you would mount the bow unit transducer on the trolling motor. Remember, the things you see on the graph have already happened. If your fishing on the deck, the stuff you're seeing will already be 20 feet behind the boat.

Most Interesting Person You've Met While Fishing
In San Diego I met a swimsuit model walking down the pier giving her phone number to the fishermen. She was carrying a skate and looking for another one to make a bikini top out of. I met the man who owned Lake Michigan, or at least thought he did. Apparently I had no right to fish in "his backyard" Long story short, he was a paying slip owner and, my son and I ended up getting tossed out of a marina I had fished for 20 years. When I was a bank fisherman I met my fair share of homeless people and hypes while fishing the Chicago lakefront.

My Biggest White Bass Ever!!!
The difference is in the pattern of the stripes. On a white bass, the stripes run straight the entire length of the fish. On a wiper, the stripes are broken up. Yours appears to be a white bass. A couple pounds is a nice size fish and they're good eating IF you eat the backstraps only. After you filet them, cut off and discard the red meat and stomach meat. The hybrids by us get over 20lbs and they put up a helluva fight.

Legend Or Ranger Bass Boat
Legend sponsors my tournament trail. Their boats are beautiful, and being a semi custom boat has its benefits. They can be a little "tippy" with 2 guys fishing on the same side of the boat. Ranger makes cookie cutter boats that are well made, well designed, and very fishable. They probably hold their value better than any other bass boat manufactured. You can always add custom touches to either boat. I looked at both brands along with Phoenix and Charger, and bought none of the above. Take a ride in both boats, see which layout suits you best and go from there.

Are These Baitfish?
I use 200 and have been experimenting with clear and max mode. Not a fan of 200/83, but I really haven't put much time into it.

Hooked Hull
At least it's happening at the end of the season instead of the beginning.

Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
Sorry for the crappy pics. You'd think a woman could use a camera We hit the Upper Dells instead of the lower. There was a walleye tourney going on and frankly, we didn't want to deal with the crowd, Water temps at 61* fish were caught fishing ledges in current areas. Everything on jigs and Gulp minnows. Ended up with a few each keeper bass and eater sized walleyes and a bunch of short fish.

Would You Let Your Kids Play Football?
In our local news today http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/ct-met-lane-tech-player-20131010,0,1579837.story My son played with the park district in grade school thru 8th grade and played 2 years in high school. He suffered a concussion once during practice. Didn't stop him. He stopped playing ball because he wanted a car and had to get a job. Thru all those years of watching games, I saw a few kids get hurt. It happens. I believe the benefits outweigh the risk.

Do You Get Disappointed?
I started to write this as a reply to the quantity/quality thread but didn't want to hijack. Do you get disappointed when you catch a large fish of a species you are not targeting? You're bass fishing and hook into a 10lb pike(happened to my son this past weekend) His heart was set on a trophy smallie but the fishing gods did not cooperate. We catch good fish all the time while bass fishing. 36" musky, 6lb walleye, 15lb flathead, 12lb carp, lots of channel cats in the 5-10lb range etc. just from this year alone. I get a little upset if I'm fishing a tourney but my son gets angry. Tourney or no tourney, he's ticked. He fishes with "bass blinders" on. He caught his first musky a couple years ago during a tourney and spent the day upset because he was sure it was a huge bass. Only appreciating the fact he caught his first musky a day or two later. Same thing with the big cats, but we can normally tell when they're on the line by the fight. So, does catching a quality fish of another species leave you disappointed? Here is his most recent disappointment http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/125828-my-son-got-a-nice-pike/
