You would also need insurance to protect you from any on the water accidents. You hit a submerged log or run aground in shallow water you can tear up a boat really quick. God forbid you run into another boat, which happens regularly on my home water. You need medical payments,You will want to make sure your gear is insured. My insurance is divided into 2 parts. The boat and everything permanently connected to it, and the contents of the boat which include all my gear, my sons gear, the electronics. There are different types of insurance as well. One type, similar to car insurance, the boat is insured but the replacement coverage depreciates yearly. There is also full replacement value. I have my new boat motor and trailer insured for the purchase price. If it sinks in 10 years, I am covered for what I paid for it, not it's value 10 years from now. Did Bill Murphy mention the use of a ham sandwich covered in Megastrike as a viable option? You'd have the ability to fish with meat and have 100% control over what the ham sandwich is doing. Knowing the ham sandwich has no instinctual need to survive, you would not have to worry about it crawling underneath a rock in 20fow.

They offered me $400 as a trade in. I ended up selling it to a friend of a guy I worked with, who is a mechanic, for $1500. The drivetrain could probably have lasted another 275k. The interior was shot and it had some issues with the power windows going up and down at will and a rear seal leak. The guy who bought it flips cars but said he was going to keep it for himself. The car had been in the family since new. Aside from basic maintenance and tires, the only repair it needed prior to the end was the computer replaced at around 100k

One thing you need to worry about with the Nissan SUV's is the catylitic converters. In IL we have to pass a smog test to renew the plates. My sons Pathfinder had 4 converters. At 275k it wouldn't smog because 2 converters were bad. Repairs were $1500. More than the truck was worth.

I'm going to quote myself. What am I trying to accomplish? I can fish a senko all day and get a ton of bites. May not all be big bites, but I'll get bit. I can fish a PB&J mop jig for the rest of my life and maybe not get anywhere near the amount of bites a senko will get me. I will however get a better quality bite. I would rather catch 1 good fish as opposed to 50 dinks on any given day. BUT if I take my dad out or a "guest" I'm using what's working. I've caught enough fish over the course of my life that catching fish is not important. I'm limited by my location, but I'd love to have the opportunity to fish regularly on trophy water like Fish Chris or WRB or Matt Lures.

If the rod is a Fenwick and the reel is Abu Garcia I have determined those are the ones I need. I tend to be brand loyal. Especially on higher end purchases. I use the mid range gear from both of those companies. My advice to you is once you find something you like, stick with it. I only say this because I see the struggles my son goes thru with his set ups. Each time he picks up a set up to use, it is completely different than the one he was just using. Takes him a few minutes and a few backlashes to adjust. All my casting and flipping rods I keep on deck are Fenwick. All the casting reels are Abu. All the flipping reels are Ardent. Takes the guesswork out of it. On a side note. Keep me posted with the Take a Vet fishing. I'm going to volunteer next year. They are not signing up volunteers as of yet.

Mileage was (1) 1000-1500mi round trip road trips every year, (2) 500mi round trips every year and maybe 40 regular trips to the ramp around 60mi round trip per year. So roughly 25-30k. I have heard treating the tires with tire dressing and keeping them covered while stored will extend the life.

Check your local regulations. I've seen a few custom baby catfish swimbaits either here or on other sites. EDIT, In IL panfish are allowed as bait providing they were caught on the same body of water they are being used on. I don't know if that would apply to bullheads/catfish.

Water fishes differently around the country. My home water has an average of 4.5 feet deep with some 30ft holes. No humps and no structure. Fishing in 8-10fow is deep for me. (I do fish deeper on other water if need be) Deeper water on my home lake holds suspended fish, but not bass. Walleye, panfish and drum is all I catch. I have caught bass on offshore structure on KY Lake, G'ville, and Lake Michigan. Not on my home water.

Riddle me this AJ, (I did not read the book) Does the rule of thumb apply that 90% of the bass are in 10% of the water, and if so, are you targeting the 10% living in the 90% of water? I live in a similar area where 7lbs is a huge fish. My biggest local fish have been around the 5lb mark with most caught in the prespawn/spawn phase. A few caught during the heat of the summer. All caught in less than 3fow. My home water is not a candidate for this technique. Most of the water in northern IL is not. I'm thinking it may be successful on a couple lakes I currently fish, but then again these may be the same 5lbrs I've already caught. Does Bill address such situations?

Depends on what I'm trying to accomplish. Depends on what I'm fishing. I keep 4-6 rods on deck at any given time. I change up if the structure changes. I may toss a jig at the dock posts and then skip a fluke or senko underneath the same dock and then switch over to a t-rig on a drop. This could all happen in a matter of a few yards. OR I could throw a PB&J mop jig all day every day for the rest of my life and be happy.
