First off, let's not forget the reason for the season. I'm pretty frugal most of the year. It's the one time a year i spoil myself with fishing stuff and new tools. As far as the family stuff, my boy is grown. We do my family on the 24th and her family on the 25th for the get togethers. Santa's getting me something good this year.

My brother-in-law has the basement stockpiled with food, water, guns, and ammo. They recently finished the Y2K stash. Me, I'll continue waiting around for my shoulder to heal and the ice to melt. If in fact it truly is the end, It's been a slice and I'll see you on the other side.

I will say this. Frabill has excellent customer service. I had issues with net handles breaking twice on some muskies. They replaced the damaged handles free of charge both times. I no longer use their products because of the breakage issues. The only net material that is tangle free is the rubber ones.

Water depth and wind also contribute. I fish a river system with an average depth of 4-6ft. A couple days of high winds and air temp fluctuations can change things drasticaly. I've seen surface temperature swings of more than 10 degrees in a matter of a couple days. Fish still need to eat. If you can locate them, maybe try different presentations to trigger them.

Cheap does not equal quality, but you don't need to break the bank either. I'll vouch for Northstar jigs excellent quality. Might I recommend you invest in a decent braided line. You won't lose so many.

I agree. Smalies under 12lbs don't taste that good. Once they hit the 12lb mark, with a little lemon butter, mmm mmm good!
