  1. Does the spool tension knob have a micro click when adjusting tension? TT review for the reel doesn't say if it does, just the star drag has micro click adjustment.
  2. Did you order one and have you received it? I haven't and I ordered mine way before Christmas
  3. I haven't but have lost a few to some bass. I did catch a steelhead trout with 3 hooks in its back, that's as close for me. What lure did a bass or fish have in its mouth when you caught it?
  4. They look to me that the black nickel treble hooks are VMC but I'm not sure. Any idea what treble hooks Strike King uses for their crankbait and Red Eye Shad Lipless?
  5. My ex-wife, she just doesn't stay on the hook...
  6. I'm visiting my kids here in Indiana and the Walmart has this baitcast camo rod from Jimmy Houston. I see it's just an IM6 graphite with a small touch of faux graphite to lock down the reel. The card says "premium" guides. So...is this a good rod to just kick around with since I brought a baitcaste reel? I'm looking at the 6'6" mh and it's $40. Any input?
  7. From TT at Icast. Looks like the Tatula to me.
  8. Wow, didn't know a Rapala jointed countdown even existed. That's what I've noticed about ebay, it's not like before you can bid or buy something cheap. Now buying from ebay is expensive and I hardly see any bids for things. Times a changing, even on ebay.
  9. I know there's that frustrating feeling that it's something you want cuz you had one and it was lost one way or another. Or you've heard or seen that particular lure but just can't have...
  10. Very good review! I live in Orange County and wanting to try out some San Diego lakes, can you suggest some places?
  11. Would it work?
  12. I've used the new Curado for a couple weekends now. First weekend, the casting was inconsistent and after reading a previous post I wrote and got a reply, I lubed inside the tension knob. That did the trick, I can cast so much farther with the Curado I than the other baitcast reels I own. I'm slowly understanding how to use this reel as compared to other reels I own. The tension dial on the bottom of the reel works, it does help keep the over runs to a minimum. Also for my casting, 1 brake set on works best. using 2 brakes lessens the casting distance but no over runs for the most part. It's like setting 4 brakes on an older Shimano baitcast reel. I guess if I was doing more pitching and flipping, 2 brakes on the Curado 200 I would work great. The reel palms great, just a tad taller than the Curado 51E. I like the higher gear ratio on this reel also. Working crankbaits, especially Rapala Scatter Raps, I can make the lure run perfectly. And if I'm using a worm or jig, I can bring back the lure quick to make another cast. So before I was on the fence with this reel. Now I'm certain it's a great reel and Shimano did a great job on the aesthetics, tolerances and craftsmanship of the new 2014 Curado. There is a hint of slight green tint to the reel when seen in direct sunlight. Now I'm happy I own the Shimano Curado 201 I HG!
  13. Ordered that and a bunch of other stuff from TW, taking advantage of the 4th of July sale. I should get it early this coming week. I got the Wakasagi color. So those who own this, does it cast on casting gear ok? Also I tend to use 30/8 PP braid, will the Spinbait 80 G-Fix run correctly on that? Curiosity and a buddy who owns one made me make the impulse buy...
  14. I have more power in my right arm for casting, working a lure and setting the hook. I never understood why someone reels with left hand on spinning and right hand on casting. You're not screwed up, it's what feels natural to you. Both spinning and casting reels I reel left hand.
  15. So I've used the Curado 201 I HG now for a couple days and I'm starting to slowly getting used to it. The casting is still a bit inconsistent, and I did go ahead and lightly oiled the drum where the brakes would rub on...best way I could describe that. The reel did feel solid, no play at all, like everything on this reel is dialed in. Also the grips from my other Shimano reels and other mfg's, there would be some play, back and forth on the handle. It's a bit annoying especially when working certain lures. The Curado 201 I HG did not have this play, I like that alot! So did some night fishing and caught 3 bass, last one was camera shy and the best and hopped off the lure when I got it close to me. Used a Cabela's Forked Tail swimbait, fishing from shore and right by the edge, this bass wanted dinner. Not that big of a bass, but a catch is a catch; and the Curado 201 I HG did a good job. Rapala rattle trap style lure in silent. Hopped it on the bottom and reeled in the lure and that's when it got smacked. I like the higher speed of this Curado, felt quite smooth reeling in the lure. I've come to figure out that the Curado 201 I HG casts lure 3/8 oz and up and I get good distance out of the cast. Lighter lures like the Rapala Scatter Rap is when I was getting inconsistent casting distance. But for some reason, the Scatter Rap Shallow is slightly heavier that it casts better than the other Scatter Rap models. I also used a Yamamoto Fat Ika and that thing casted quite far, I lost the lure during the cast in the air since it was dark, didn't see where in landed in the water but I could tell it was a long cast. Heavier lures the Curado 200I HG shined. I'll try and post a pic(s) of the Curado 201I HG compared to a Curado 51E later to compare size and all. Now about the Reel Grips, I have those on all my reels. I like the feel of the Reel Grips and it also bulks up the grips, which I like. It just has a more positive feel for me when reeling.
  16. Impressions after using the curado 201 I HG today. I think this reel needs to be broken in for a few outings. I noticed it did not cast that far with 2 brakes on. I finally went with 1 brake against my better judgment. Why I say that is how used I am to older Curado, 6 pin braking. With one brake on, the Curado HG casted farther, but felt inconsistent in distance. At times it would cast far using a 5/8 oz hollow frog after a few casts, I wouldn't get similar distance. I'm still trying to get used to the adjustable tension brake dial. I felt it was a bit difficult trying to find that sweet spot from over run to too much tension. The reel feels solid, goodly smooth. I'm quite surprised Shimano finally went with a swept handle. I think the Chronarch 150 CI4+ also has a swept handle. The tension dial, I wish it had a "click" when it is being turned. Also location of the dial is odd that it's low and you have to look at it to see what tension number you are set at. It's such a smaller feeling reel compared to the Curado 201E, 201D and 201B, but not as wide as the 201E. I so far like the reel, it just feels so different from previous Curados, it's like thinking outside the box different. I hope after a few more outings with the Curado 201I HG that the casting will improve and be more consistent in distance. It just seemed that during the cast, it slows down quick that I almost don't need to thumb the spool to slow down. So after all the hype of the new Curado 201I, and after the first use; I'm not all that impressed as I was hoping to be like previous Curado's. I just hope that this is a break in period, which I never had to deal with previous Curado models.
  17. Thank you, that's a good explanation!
  18. Was at the BPS store an hour ago to pick the Curado 201HG. So different from previous Curado's, such a nice change. I still do like the Curado green color but things change and so does the frame color for 2014. I so don't understand the SVS braking, how many brake blocks do you have on? And the brake dial, does it work well? Do I even need any brake blocks on then if I adjust the brake dial adjusted? So I'll spool with 30/8 lb Power Pro and for now it will be on a 7'2", MH Cumara. Can't wait till tomorrow morning to test out the Curado 201 HG!
  19. I bought a couple of the bone colored zara puppys. IM if you want to buy it from me.
  20. On the 1/2 oz Buzz Plug, take off the double hook on back, put a split ring and add a size 2 treble hook. That's what I did with the 2 half oz Buzz Plugs I have. I haven't caught a bass on either one yet. But I think the hook up would be better with the size 2 treble hook.

You may want to use the lake fork frog stinger hook. http://www.***.com/Lake_Fork_Frog_Tail_Hook_2pk/descpage-LFTFRHK.html It's actually quite weedless, I've used on heavy mats, loose grass and open water. I only get little to no debris on the stinger hook. I do wish they would come out with one that is totally weedless, like the VMC weedless wacky hook.
  22. Just received my TW order today and the XPod Jr in White Python was part of the order. The stock treble hooks seems like they'll do the job, but I had other intentions. I switched out the stock trebles for size 4 Owner ST36 front treble and ST36 dressed white treble hook. IMO, I think this looks like a topwater fish catching machine!
  23. This is what I use: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Fish-Gripper-Pliers/product/52268/
