  1. Awesome collection steezy! Thanks for posting.
  2. Casting: Pinnacle Matrix II Spinning: Pflueger President 6730 or Symetre 2500
  3. Mono or Braid: I replace as needed if the spool gets low. At the end of my fishing season I take all the line off all my reels and then re-spool them all again just before season starts. With braid, I put a mono backing on the spool. Allows me to fill more than one reel with braid.
  4. Thanks everyone. I contacted several builders, they said they could do it, but it cost as much as buying a new Avid. They also both offered the alternative of building a new rod, then tearing down the ones I have. So as ejtaylor822 suggests, I will more than likely sell or trade them on this forum at some point. Thanks again! Esox
  5. This may be a stupid question to all you rod builders out there, but I am curious. Can you take a store bought casting rod, remove all it's components (guides, reel seet, etc.) down to just the blank, then take that blank and make it into a spinning rod? I have a St. Croix Avid casting rod that I purchased several years ago that does not get any time on the water. It's power, action, line/lure rating would make a great walleye rod. Thanks in advance. Esox
  6. I use an 6'8" MXF and have had no problem with hooksets. I don't use it if there is a lot of vegetation to deal with, then I usually go with my 6'6" MH. There is a whole section under Fishing Tackle: Senko FAQ - Lines & Hooks for Senkos - Senko Setup. Under Senko Setup there is alot of examples of what a number of the members here use, you may want to check it out.
  7. I read a comment by one of our other forum members that stated with lite crankbaits, 1/8 to 1/4 oz., that a 7' medium power - moderate action, would not load or cast as far as a 7' medium power - moderate fast action would. I believe this statement was in regards to spinning rods. My question is, does this hold true for casting rods as well? I'm looking to purchase either a spinning or casting rod to throw lite crankbaits (or small lures with treble hooks), but want some distance to my casts. Any advice or insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Caught Pike on Delavan, never been on Geneva.
  9. My Avid arsenal.... AVS68MXF AVC66MF AVC66MHF AVC66MHM AVC66HF Great rods, sensitive, well worth the money IMO.
  10. At my nearby Cabela's they carry Gloomis IMX, not many, but a few. Not sure on the Core.
  11. Great question Rooster, I have been asking myself the very same questions.
  12. I am looking at a G.Loomis SJR843S in a GL3, or a St. Croix Avid AVS70MHF. Of the two, I am trying to determine which is a more sensitive rod, and thought some of you may have some experience with these and would share your thoughts. (I know some of you will say to save a few extra dollars and move up to an IMX or an LTB, which I understand will have better sensitivity, but that is not in the cards at this time.) Thanks, Esox
  13. Just over 5 lbs., on a pumpkin/black fleck senko.
  14. Has anyone had any experience using these? Never fished with tubes before and want to give it a try. There are a number of brands out there and I saw these and thought they may be worth trying, but wanted to get some opinions from any of you. Thanks in advance!
  15. I always use a trailer, bulks it up a bit and adds just a little more action. I mainly use YUM Boogee Tails in white. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10206468____SearchResults
  16. I hear they are good for walleye, can't say as I have heard of anyone specifically using them for bass.
  17. I have the spinnerbait box, works really well.
  18. It's more of a confidence thing with me. I always put a leader on any "slow" presentation or anytime a presentation allows a bass to get a good look at it's potential meal. Anything moving at a fast speed, that they can't get a good look at, I don't bother with a leader.
  19. I would suggest looking for one quality rod, and not two so-so rods, and spend the $60 to $70 on that. Get an all around rod that can work for multiple applications. (IMO I would go with a Medium Power with a fast action.)
  20. Hope I'm posting this in the correct place.....I need to get your opinion. Do you feel that bass are more prone to take a spinnerbait with a silicone skirt, or do you think they would take a spinnerbait with marabou feathers just as readily? Reason I ask is that I plan on making my own spinnerbaits (as a hobby) and thought that maybe I would give the bass a slightly different look by using marabou instead of silicone, but if bass are attracted to silicone over marabou, I don't want to waste my time or money. (Or does it even matter?)
  21. What brand of rod were you using? How much are you willing to put towards a new rod? If you can give us that information we can give you a few suggestions on something of better quality.
  22. Couple of good rods to check into: Fenwick HMX -7' med. 2pc. - Action Fast - Rated 4-12 lb. line, 1/8 to 3/4 lures. (89.99) St. Croix Triumph - 7' med. 2pc. Action Fast - Rated 6 -12 lb. line, 1/4 to 5/8 lures. (70.00)
  23. The Avid is a great rod, and IMO much more sensitive compared to the the Mojo. I say this because I have owned Premiers, which I believe, is the same blank that the Mojo uses (SCII). Not knocking the Mojo at all, great rod for it's price point and a lot of members on this forum have great success with them. However, I am a firm believer that sensitivity is key when using soft plastics, so I recommend getting the most sensitive rod you can afford.
  24. Thanks sirsnookalot, but I am looking for a rod, however I will need a reel to put on it, so thanks for the advice, I will take a closer look at the Stadic FI.
  25. Looking to get a good quality spinning rod between $100 to $200 that will handle lite weight crankbaits running anywhere up to 10ft. I've tried baitcasting rods, but just do not do well with them on lite lures. I apologize if this has been asked before....and thanks for any suggestions in advance. -esox
