  1. At $ 7.00 per gal for diesel, I'm having to pick and choose when and where I go, not only to fish, but just in general. Being on SS kinda sucks these days..
  2. I use needle nose vice grips, no problem bending the hooks, and no damage to the hooks. The regular vice grips are to large.
  3. I too toss chatterbaits on a 7' MH/F rod. Has worked well for years.
  4. This happens a bunch. To avoid this, any reputable contractor will NOT ask for a sizable deposit up front, they have accounts to buy your materials. A small read 2 to 5 % is what I asked for on Big jobs, anything under say 10K I asked for nothing up front. Re: contractors, one thing I didn't mention in my previous post was to check with your states contractor license board, to make sure that their lic. is valid, and if they've had any complaints, ect.
  5. Funny, I've had just the opposite happen, nada on the glide, but they hit the jig big time..
  6. In my experience, and this applies maybe more toward shore fishing than from a boat. I normally watch what others are using, and If I see them make multiple casts w/o any bites, I'll go to a totally different bait, and it's not always about color. OTH, I may throw the kitchen sink at them and no bites, then as my last resort, I tie on a 6" grape roboworm and Bamb. I also start with topwater, and work my way down the water column. On a big lake it's kinda hard to see what some of the guys are using nearby, then I'm pretty much on my own. One thing I try to do is think outside the box, and that thinking has paid of more than once, in fact twice to the tune of a few hundred bucks.
  7. There are many projects that home owners can do If you take the time and do some research. I built and repaired homes for a living, and all to often I saw diy stuff that made me cringe, mainly cuz they went about blind. There's a ton of stuff on youtube. if you don't feel confident, doing a larger project, then I recommend seeking out a Licensed Contractor, and interview at least 3, and ask for referrals that you can contact, then Contact them. Lastly, there area number of us here on BR that would be glad to assist folks.
  8. Only time I shore fish, is at city park ponds/lakes. No way I'm driving for an hour or more to go shore fishing. BTW, there a few good lakes in San Diego that have boat rentals, and are reasonable.
  9. Kietech 2.8 in shad, with a underspin would be my choice. The Owner flashy swimmer is what I use.
  10. I enjoy most of the topics. The ones I don't care to much for are repeated threads re: which line, what's the best line, and topics like those. I may not post a bunch, but I do read 98 % of the post's.
  11. Slick lookin combo ya got there..
  12. I toss both 6 and 8" Hudds with a Diawa Tatula 300. Works very well. My old swimbait reel was a Shimano 301 Curado E7, the tatula works just as well. Oh, it's a 6 speed.
  13. Sorry, I'm kinda on a music kick tonight..
  14. If your body of water doesn't have any heavy cover, you can get by with a good MH/F rod. In your price range, the Irod gneiss III at $ 149.99 is solid buy, I own 3 of them so far. Check em out on Tacklewarehouse. if you do have heavy cover, then i would be inclined to look for a heavy/f.
  15. Cool. I saw them at Hawthorne high school in 1964 I think it was. Being a " surfer " they were my favorite band with them being fairly local to me.
  16. With my eyesight, I don't see very well at night. I did try night fishing twice, but just could not see much. You guys are lucky that you can fish at night..
  17. Sunset at the golf course.
  18. O.K. so tonight wasn't as noisy, but people were talking, ect. I tried to ignore the voices, ect, and for the most part it worked, I just focused on what I was doing. Still it would be nice to have some quiet for a change. Just so some of you know, I've been playing golf for about 30 years. What exactly am I off base "as well" ? We will just have to agree to disagree..
  19. The first pic is just Priceless..
  20. Well, I've noticed other people give folks that are talking loud, or laughing loud the ole Stink Eye, but they never said anything, unlike them, I say something in a polite way. What gets me is they oh, sorry, then 5 mins. later they are right back at it, so it's not just me that doesn't appreciate the noise. Hey, if noise doesn't bother some folks, imho at least have some consideration for those that do.
  21. I have to agree with what TOXIC posted. I would give the same advice.
