Fish Attractant
The 2 main ones I have seen are Yum and the Berkely Gulp. But I am sure just like other things fishing there are tons to choose from. Do you use fish attractant? Also do you prefer one over another and why? If you do use it do you put it on everything you fish or only certain lures?

Ever approach an owner of a pond?
I have to agree with Sharpie. If he is your neighbor get to know him first. I wouldn't have just walked up and asked to fish without first going and introducing myself or approaching and introducing myself while seeing them out in the yard or something. Who knows, you may make a really good friend and fishing buddy in the process getting to know your neighbors first.

Pond Question
Personally I would try a Senko style worm rigged wacky style fished relatively slow. As far as colors I always seem to have good luck with watermelon red or the green pumpkin colors.

Time to go back to old school......
This thread caught my eye because I too have back pain while fishing standing up. When I am sitting in a boat I am fine for the whole day. I can also play baseball with my kids outside all day long and not have one ouce of back pain. But for some reason when I am fishing from the bank standing up my back starts to hurt something awful! I have to find a spot and sit for awhile. When this happens I usually put on a Senko style worm wacky style and fish it real slow. But what I don't understand is I only have this back pain while I am fishing standing up. I have tried switching positions and standing differently but nothing seems to help. I have to literally sit down cross-legged or put my arms behind me and lean back for the pain to let up. If anyone has any idea why that happens and a possible way to correct it I would be very grateful. (Don't mean to hijack the thread.)

Ipods? Yes or no?
No Ipod for me when I am fishing. Part of the reason I fish is to enjoy the ambience of nature around me and to focus all my attention to the task at hand so that I can have that period of escape from the real world.

Would you eat a pot bellied female bass full of eggs in the spring?
My family and friends always C&R. Unless the fish is of course mortally wounded. IMO, a properly cooked bass is a tasty treat.

One other note for you, I believe YouTube videos are limited to about 10 minutes maximum for each one. That is why you will sometimes see things broken up into parts.

Swimming at Bass Pro Shops
That is insane! If that was one of my kids I don't think they would be allowed out of their room until they were at least 42 years of age... ;D

Most Memorable Fights (with a fish)
The most memorable fight wasn't my own it was my 9 year old son's. He started bass fishing with my nephew and I whom got me started again. We were fishing the same pond we usually fish every Saturday morning. We hadn't had much luck the whole day, I believe I caught a 1/2 pounder at the beginning of the day and my nephew had caught 1 or 2 that day but nothing over 2lbs. Then all of a sudden my son says "I got one!" I looked over and saw his rod bowed over and him giving it his all to reel it in and his eyes were just huge. He got it into the boat and I have never seen a child so proud as he was of catching that fish. We didn't have anything that day to weigh it with but I believe it was between 3-4lbs. Not soon after I got a scale. He caught it on a weightless watermelon red Senko style worm rigged wacky style. Here is a pic of the fish he caught that day. Needless to say I believe I was more proud of him than he was of himself catching the fish!!!

Registering a Boat in Texas
Thanks CGH! I will try and go that route. Fortunately the person I purchased it from works at the same company as I do, though not at the same location. I am going to ask to see if his dad would be willing to fill out the paperwork needed. Thanks again! The only other way I read to get it done was to have it registered over in LA (their laws are not as strict) then have it brought back to TX to be registered here.

Hooked on Bass- National geographic special
I too watched the show this past weekend after hearing about it on these boards. My wife, youngest son, and my neice and her fiance watched part of it with me as well. They were really interested in learning about the current record bass and were amazed at the size of Dottie. The part I enjoyed the most was the underwater scenes. They were absolutely awesome!

LMB Fishing on a Small Pond
Thanks for all the replies I appreicate it very much and I am going to try em all (at least the ones I can afford, Mattslures look great, but $50 for one is kinda steep, but if it worked, it would be worth every penny!!!). I will be heading up there again soon and will try some bigger lures. Because now that it was mentioned most of the stuff I have is not real large except for some buzzbaits and some big spinnerbaits. But I have tried some Senko's rigged wacky style and didn't have any luck with the big one. But I am going to research all the lures given as advice. But if I am able to get her, I will definetly post a pic of her on here for all to see and let you know what I was able to get her on.

LMB Fishing on a Small Pond
I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here on these boards so I thought I would run this by you all and see what your thoughts were. My in-laws have a 2 acre pond on their property and I fish it everytime I am there. Well for the past 2 years or so we would catch bass off of live minnows and lures. We only usually catch bass that are anywhere from a half pound to 2 lbs. I didn't think there were any big bass in this pond. Well my nephew caught a bluegill not too big and rigged it up on his line and cast it back out. Out of the darkness of the pond to where the light shines as he is reeling in the bluegill there is about a 6lb. bass following it trying to eat it. I thought to myself, wow! there are big bass in this pond. Now my question is how would ya'll go about trying to catch the big ones that are in the pond? Any suggestions you can give would be great. If it matters the pond is near Center, TX.

New from Texas
Hello all! Glad to be here. Found alot of great information on this site. I also have to say the boards here are by far the best I have seen of any fishing website. Been coming here on a daily basis reading. Been fishing since I was a little one in saltwater. Only recently I have come to love fishing for largemouth bass. I have found it to be my relax time, because I enjoy it whether I catch em or I don't!

Registering a Boat in Texas
Thanks fishfordollars, I appreciate it very much. I had a feeling that is what it would turn out to be. I don't understand why Texas makes it so difficult to register a boat. Just thinking of all the revenue they lose by making it as difficult as possible is mind boggling. Well I would like a bigger boat anyways and will make sure I have the title in hand when I purchase another boat.

Registering a Boat in Texas
I recently purchased a 8' Bass Raider and the person I purchased it from did not have the title. (I didn't complain he was selling it for $50.) Well I asked about the title and he said his father gave it to him and he would check with his father to see if he had it. He did check with him and his father believes he has the title, he just wasn't sure where it was. Not sure if I will ever get it. My question is how do I go about getting the boat registered in Texas. I have heard and read it is a real pain. The boat was registered at one time and the tags say it expired in '07. If there is anyone that has had a similar situation please let me know what you did. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I would love to take the boat out to Livingston Dam near my home and onto the Angelina River near my in-laws.

Tackle Shop
I purchase most of my tackle at the local Wal-Mart. It is a Super Wal-Mart but the size of the fishing tackle area is pretty limited. But I like the fact that when we go grocery shopping once a week I can pick up hooks, weights, and maybe a new lure or 2 when we go. Now if I am looking for a specific lure I drive about 30 minutes to an Academy where they have a wonderful selection (I can browse for hours as I am sure most of you can) and I see alot of the lures I see being used on the fishing shows. There is a BPS shop but it is almost a 2 hour drive away and is alot heavier on the wallet versus going to Academy. But I still like to go to the BPS and spend a few hours looking over everything.
