Interesting. This should definitely hurt the PETA cause which is the silver lining.

If you only have money for one of them and can't afford a combo, buy a fish finder. You will be able to find structure and bait balls with it and when you find a good spot you can make note of where it is in relation to particular landmarks on shore. (You can also mark it on a map.)

The Powell 683c is an excellent rod in it's price range. It is sensitive and light. I have a few Powells and like them all. Do a search on Powell 683c to find information on them. Also, go to tackletour.com and look in the archives for an article on the 683c from three years ago. It was given the Editor's Choice Award.

We received approximately three inches on the north side of KC. My youngest daughter turned 20 yesterday, and we took her out to Cinzetti's on the south side. Then we drove down around the Sprint Campus. From Cinzetti's, around 93rd and Metcalf, to the Sprint Campus, around 115th, was like night and day. Snow was piled up in the middle of the streets a few inches deep and the car was dragging big time around the Campus. I'm glad we missed what they got around Hutchinson. Pratt received 28 inches and a few other places received 18 or more. This is really putting a bite in my fishing time.

Interesting stuff . . . . . I've seen the same history for the Rapala Floater that RW mentioned. Some lures fade into obscurity for some, while others are still using them. I've heard KVD mention on a few occasions over the last couple of years that he loves spinnerbaits. I don't think that opinion has changed a great deal since he first hit the pro trail. I have to admit that I can't remember the last tournament that he won using a spinnerbait, however.

When you have a really BIG fish on, you don't need any distractions. The fish of a lifetime doesn't come along everyday. That's what I prepare for, seriously. With a perfectly set drag you will also get maximum performance from your equipment. You can put all the "heat" you want on a fish without any concern about breaking your line or rod. Several seasoned members have stated on this thread that they have NEVER been broken off. It's only happened once to me and it broke my heart, but that had nothing to do with my drag. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1226342926/0 8-) I follow the same line of thought. I set my drag correctly and that's where it stays. Never is a very strong word. In the beginning of our fishing experiences none of us tied perfect knots or played fish perfectly. I would think all of us have broken off at one time or another, especially early in our fishing lives. Could it be these seasoned veterans are suffering from memory loss?

I learned to drag to the side and that is the way I've always done it though I will occasionally try everything else when I'm not getting bit. I was watching an episode of "The Bass Pros" recently and Tim Horton was raising his rod like a Texas rig. When he set the hook he used the typical long horizontal sweep to the side. I'll have to experiment more with the technique of raising the rod.
