  2. A pond is part of the plan for retirement as long as the money works out. I don't know if I'll buy or build. There's still quite a bit of time to think about it.
  3. I haven't tried the dancing eel but a number of people say they don't work. Bill seems to catch them just fine with it on his show.
  4. I'm in for Missouri and Kansas.

  11. The title of the thread is "How open-minded are you?" and this can be defined in a number of ways. pitchinallday stated: FishChris stated: I understand giving someone pointers to help them improve, but if this guy is aware of these other tactics and doesn't use them I guess he's doing what he likes to do. Maybe we should open our minds to his definition of a big bass angler. Should we try to make his fishing tactics fit our view of what they should be? Just because he doesn't use all the tactics that you or I would use doesn't necessarily support the conclusion that he is closed-minded or not thinking out of the box. I guess someone who likes to drive over 100 mph on the highway could say that the vast majority of us are closed-minded to the fun we could be having because we drive at saner speeds. : I know that's not necessarily analogous to fishing but I'm sure you get my point. Different strokes for different folks.
  12. First of all, welcome to bassresource.com! Secondly, I can't speak for Acadia's quality because I've never used their rods or reels. I know a year or two ago, their marketing campaign consisted of sending out letters about their rods and how the quality was high and the price inexpensive. The information I have read from those who tried out the rods seemed to indicate that the rods were OK in their price range but the quality didn't match higher-priced rods as their marketing campaign stated. I haven't heard anything about their reels. As this is just hearsay, maybe someone else can speak from actual experience.
  13. At just below $100, Fenwick is an excellent choice. Fenwick HMXT 66M Baitcasting Fenwick HMXS 66M Spinning Your $100 price tag rules out some other good buys. There are a number of choices in the $130 - $200 range from different manufacturers that would fit the bill. At the lower end of that price range($139), I would recommend the following: Powell 683CEF Baitcasting medium-heavy extra-fast tip Powell 703MEF Spinning medium extra-fast tip St Croix Avids are excellent rods in this range as well.
  14. "Uncle" Homer's answer? Is that man nuts or just plain senile? Probably a little senile. He was going down his homemade list of how to do things for those over 80 and got How to bathe myself mixed up with How to clean my reels. I was shocked when I read his answer. I'm even more shocked that Bassmaster printed it.
  15. Despite the loss of the big mama it looks like you had an excellent outing! Go back and get her.

  17. Welcome to the forum, hit! I didn't see this thread until today. It's nice to read about that initial excitement when someone is first getting into fishing. I'm really anxious to see how your and your son's fishing trip goes. Please report back and good luck! 8-)
  18. Congrats! I'm sure you're anxious to finish it up and get it on the water.
  19. That's a hawg! Sweet fish.

  21. Since I already have my boat and motor I haven't really been reading up on the newest four strokes, but from my experience with motorcycles I would guess that this is incorrect. Even when manufactured with lighter metals four strokes are heavier due to the camshaft, valves, and related hardware. Four stroke dirt bikes have improved in power tremendously over the last couple of decades but they still don't match the weight of the two strokes. With the same HP the four stroke would still be pushing more weight.

  23. Hey, Redlinerobert!! Your explanation makes perfect sense and there's no need for an apology. My work schedule is extremely busy too so I know where you're coming from. I keep the forum up on one computer as much as possible while I'm working. Time is tough to find. I'm glad to hear everything is fine.
