  1. I have heard problems with both rods breaking espeically the Carrot Stix. Do some research on each rod. If you are set on one or the other, I say get the Abu. Good luck!!
  2. Try a Shimano Compre if $$ is a question. I have a couple of Cruicals and a Compre. The weight more then the senistivity is what I notice most between the two rods.
  3. I am usually on the early side of fishing topwater. But, I would rather be early then miss the topwater bite. Try it and see.
  4. I went up to my Local BPS today to get a couple collared shirts for work so, of course I walked over to the fishing department and found a Verdict. I was playing with the 7' MH spin rod and thought is was great. But, then i picked up a Boyd Bockett rod that was sitting right next to it and WOW that was a lot lighter! I am not looking at Bockett rods it was just right there and I wanted to compare. So, I think I am going to pull the trigger and get a Cara T7 here soon...Thanks everybody!
  5. I am not quite there yet, but I am getting close! I have a Plano box completely full of crankbaits and now I am turning into a soft plastic fisherman, ugh! Another Plano box is on the horizon I guess.
  6. Really nice bass! It looks like it ate a football.
  7. Thanks for the help. I might down grade and get the 2500 now, but not sure. Don't worry I am very careful with my reels. Every year I get them tore apart and oiled up and I even do that before I take them fishing for the first just to make sure it is oiled up.
  8. Thanks trevor.......I am looking at the 3000. I need a medium spinnig reel that I am going to pair with a medium or med./heavy spin rod. What do you have your Saros F sitting on?
  9. Anyone use or own a Shimano Saros F reel? What do you think of it? Thanks, Wdy
  10. I dont think $60 difference is really a deal breaker. I guess it is not being able to hold it before I actually decided. I have never heard anybody say anything bad about Falcon rods, that is saying a lot because there is usually one person or two that go against the grain.
  11. Thanks Pantera, yeah, I figured they were in different classes. I am just not sure with the $60 price difference and not being able to have the Falcon rod in my hand to play around with. Pantera, sensitivity, and weight are the most important things to me. I have fished two local bass tournaments and had to resort to plastics on each occasion to catch bass. Yesterday, it was Paca Craws and I lost a couple keepers because I did not have the hook setting power (I was using a 6'-3" Shimano Compre rod, middle of the road Shimano and 8# copoly P-Line). The strikes were there, nothing like feeling that "thump," when a bass inhales a paca craw! Either, I am getting an old reliable Shimano Crucial, or Abu Verdict, or Cara T7. Shimano Cruicals and their reels are standard equipment for me. I call it the Toyota Camry effect "Shimano tackle is not that bright, glitzy, glamarous, it just dead nuts reliable." Sorry for the rambling, but Pantera, what is the more seneitive rod? Abu or Falcon Thanks!
  12. Loomis, yeah that is kind of what I was thinking as well. I never had a Abu rod before I mostly use Crucials, but for $130.........not to many other rods ought there like that.
  13. Hey everyone, I am in the need of a MH xft spinning rod. I am going to put a Shimano Symmetry on it, that has been decided. However, I am either looking at Verdicts or the Falcon Cara T7s. The Verdict is a fair amount cheaper, also the local reps here in Richmond do not have many Falcons to look at and or get my hands on. I had an old Falcon Lowrider a couple of years ago, loved it, good senistivity, but just did not like the action of the rod. That and hearing nothing but great things about Falcon Cara T7s have made me consider them. The purpose of this rod would be to use for plastics, senkos, worms about 1/4 to 3/8oz weighted. I have been using a med/med light rod lately and been losing too many bass. It just does not have the power for hook setting on the bigger bass. Thanks in advance Wdy
  14. THanks everyone. I have the flukes and other lures mentioned I just thought it would be a good change up the bass had not seen before.
  15. Ah, gees not sure. I know there is a really good Mom and Pop tackle store there that could help you. Well, it is still there. I fished the Jackson a lot for trout until the Kings land grant issue. Let me know and I will see about tracking down the name and location of that store for you.
  16. I am going to say Shimano, for sure! I have 2 Curados, but look at it from this stand point AJ (Hookingem) is leading to a good point. Shimano has been around FOREVER! You are not going to last this long if you do not make good equipment.
  17. Hey everyone, Got a quick question. I have a bass tournament this Saturday on the Potomac and the grass is suppose to be coming up. I recently got some baby brush hogs for finesse fishing in the tourny. Well, I thought about also using them weightless with say a 3/0 hook as topwater over grassbeds, lily pads once they come out. Has anyone done this with success? I was fishing a baby brush hog just now to see how it would look. Nothing using it on topwater, not surprised still a little early. But, when I jigged it off the bottom, hooked up with a small bass. He got off, super happy he got off (I want to that luck out of my system before Saturday), also he would not have measured so........... Thanks
  18. I was told fish dark lures at night, that way the fish can look up and see the difference between the sky. Not sure, never fished a night tournament. GOOD LUCK!
  19. I got a couple from my BPS yesterday, the chart/black back silent ones. They were the last ones there. I hated "buying the Kool-Aid," but I got a couple reports that is what they are hitting where my tournie is this weekend. I have the bluegill color one and like it a lot, but fish on it yet.
  20. How about tubes and or the Paca Craw Texas rigged? (Sam, dont pay attention to my post here.)
  21. Sam, I will be ready Saturday for the tournament Paca Craws in hand.
  22. Fluke is a great lure! I have gone through many packages of them!
  23. Try the Money Hound lure, made by Yum. It is a soft plastic version of the Zara Spook. One hook Texas rigged and you are set. I have not caught anything on it, but they are extremely durable! Good luck!
  24. Great job by your son! Well done!
  25. Great catch! Well done,
