  1. I will sometimes take my STXs saltwater fishing so the drag does come in handy there. Also, most reels i have tried(SheManO included) for flippin' let the drag slip at one point or another. Either it will slip on the hook set or while trying to pull the fish from the cover. I have been using the Revos since they came out with the drag cranked down in the slop with no damage to my rods!
  2. T-rigged through cover, sparse or heavy. Just not punching, there's a difference. Also Carolina rigged and even weightless.
  3. $140 plus the $20 mail in rebate
  4. Abu Garcia Revo STX in 6:4:1 gear ratio(has more drag) Powell Max 705C($139.99) or Powell Max 766H($169.99) FireLine Braid in 65lb test
  5. You don't care about drag, you are only considering the STX because of price, you imply the brakes on the STX will not be enough for frogs................................i think it is clear you really want/prefer the Curado so just spend the $30 more for it and get less IMO!
  6. I recently switched most of my Revos over to LH retrieve. I am right handed but definitely get better hook sets with my right hand. I can also work the lure better as well.
  7. As hot as it is right now i have found no need to go too deep into the mats. I find most of the fish are either on the outer deeper edges of the mat or just a couple of feet back. The anaconda would not be a very good choice because the tail will wrap up easily and keep it from penetrating. Use more compact baits such as craws/creatures. Rate of fall shouldn't be an issue because you are looking for a reaction strike really. You can control the fall with your rod once you get a custom to the technique. BEST OF LUCK
  8. The magnetics have absolutely NOTHING to do with pitching! It is the spool tension knob that controls that! Are you sure you have used the STX!?!
  9. Honda Civics and Smirnoff ice don't count bubba!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. STX hands down for those techniques man! Those are all the uses for my STXs. The drag and smoothness on them is amazing! Asides from all the negative reviews on the Revos brakes, the STX doesn't share those problems. All the horror stories stemmed from the SX IMO. I can cast my STX a mile with no thumb control with just about any lure. It is a solid reel with no back play in it whatsoever! And for there going price right now, how can you resist!?!

Fluorocarbon sinks so it is not a good idea for wake baits. Mono or braid would be a much better choice.
  12. I agree with the above as well. But if you must buy now i would recommend the Berkley Lightning rod at Wal-Mart in MH/F paired with an Abu Garcia Black Max also found at Wal-Mart. Together they will run you about $90. You can get the reel on Ebay for a lot less though.
  13. I have used the minnow ones that look like flukes for bass and they nail em just fine!
  14. Don't you have a baby to feed or does he eat Revo's? J/K You love those reels. The new ones do look nice though. I would be tempted, but the price tag jumped a little more than I am comfortable spending. I would think about getting another S, but don't know much about their new centrifugal braking system they are putting on it. That's why i need to get more stuff now while he is still on formula and not eating everything in the refrigerator, LOL!!! ;D
  15. Muddy, isn't it time for your medication now........................................
  16. Off i go for another STX that i don't need, LOL!!!
  17. I always peg my T-rigs no matter what! I will just up size the weight for conditions.
  18. My confidence comes only after mastering a technique/lure or a certain sweet spot, lake etc. Without experience and knowledge there is no confidence!
  19. Since i don't crank much i just carry a basic selection of them. A couple in the 0-2ft, 3-6ft, 7-10ft and the 15ft+ divers.
  20. Anyone who has ever gone down a lake at 60+MPH for long periods of time in harsh conditions will appreciate one of these imo!
  21. Definitely a Zoom Mag II in JuneBug or RedShad! Flipped, pitched, swam, cast or weightless!
  22. Awesome man! That looks just like the pond i fished tonight! Except i got skunked!!!
  23. Don't know about TX but here in FL it don't make a dam whether it blows east, west, North or not at all! LOL, i actually prefer no wind when i am flippin' mats. Seems like i catch more on calm days!
  24. Be careful man, too much talk about Abus in a Shimano thread will get your post deleted, LOL!!!!!!!!
