Location & Timing I've fish this little island on the Bend that I always thought held big bass, fished for 11 years before a double digit was caught there, now the count is up to 15 in less than 2 years. Keep chunking & reeling

Many times when bass are schooling they will not hit an artificial lure, that's why I don't chase schooling bass.

Long Mike you link is excellent but what it teaches on anchoring is during rough weather not fishing conditions. If you anchor in heavy swells then yes you will need a longer rope but generally when it's that rough I aint gonna be on the main lake.

The terms "structure" and "cover" often are used interchangeably by bass anglers, but it's helpful to differentiate between the two. Structure is the contour features of the lake bottom. Cover is wood (brush or trees) or grass that serves as bass hiding and feeding places. Few can serve as both structure & cover; piers, bridges, & huge boulders. Spots where two creeks intersect or where a feeder creek intersects with the main river are areas experienced deep water anglers seeks. Inside the Y created by the intersection is my favorite structure.

Sweet Ride

Those ledges or drops were probably the bass's dining room if you look closely nearby you'll find their living room. Bass are structure/cover orientated; they will not wonder aimlessly around the lake, they will however move from the living room to the dining room come feeding time or from the living room to the bed room come spawn time. The key is to find their home structure and their feeding ground then setup a point of intersection where the bass are traveling to and from both areas. The reason being when they are traveling from one area to the other they are in an aggressive mood and will be easier to catch then when they are sitting home in a non-aggressive mood. Even when traveling back from a feeding area with a full belly and you throw out that little after dinner desert they are gonna eat it.

Schooling bass is an excellent time to throw clear colored top water baits like a Tiny Torpedo, Spook Jr, and Pop-R. The clear color will produce reaction strikes better than colored baits under schooling conditions. The problem with schooling bass is you can spend hours chasing and catching only small bass but sometimes it will be bigger bass schooling. Another trick is to throw baits like a Little George letting it flutter down below the smaller schooling bass.

Airborne your problem is you're are not using an anchor, a brake rotor will do nothing but slide along the bottom. An anchors holding power comes from its ability to dig into the bottom not from its weight. This 7' or 10' to 1 is when you're mooring a boat in heavy seas for riding out a storm, a short anchor rope with an anchor dug in rough seas will hold the bow down causing waves to come over the bow, where as a long rope will allow the bow to raise and fall with the waves.

I've used Wal-Mart's 0.99 bulk jigs to Tungsten jigs at 5.47; I've used 3/16 to 7/8 oz jigs; I've used just about every pork/plastic trailer available. I use 3/8 oz the most in Black-N-Blue with a craw worm trailer the most

So y'all are telling me if I anchor in 15' of water I need 105' of rope I've anchored a 2007 Skeeter 22I with a 2007 Yamaha 300 3.3L V Max HPDI in 15' of water with only 25' of rope, 20 lb tri-fluted river anchor and never moved until I pulled up anchor.
