The Jig is one of the most productive lures for fishing heavy cover of any type known to anglers. The Jig is one of the most productive lures for catching larger than average bass. But despite its pure awesomeness the angler must keep in mind there will be days when the bass simply do not want a jig. So to all the young anglers (not chronological but experientially) struggling when casting, flipping, pitching, or punching with the Awesome Jig keep in mind there will be times when the Jig aint gonna be that AWESOME

Let me explain it this way! I could put any high end reel on any high end rod, spool it with braid for maximum sensitivity, tie on a Texas rig & then give it to my wife. She could not "feel" any difference if I had rigged it up on a Berkley Lightening rod! Why? Cause what is transmitted up the line, down the rod, through the hands will be lost in the brain. She doesn't fish & would not be able to interpret what she is feeling. Even for the average angler a certain amount of "sensitivity" is lost in the brain.

In the opinion of a dumb Coonass it depends a whole lot on whose holding the rod & whose brain is interpreting what's being felt.

When your spinnerbait or crankbait is finely tuned you can't tell when it's off? Question is why is it off? Did I tick grass? Did I hit a twig? Sometimes you get bit almost Immediately. You.never caught a bass on a Texas Rig or Jig-n-Craw when you wasn't moving anything, saw no line movement, felt nothing?

We throw what's call a Cheater Worm, it's only 4" but it catches everything. Crappie, Bream, Bluegill, Rock Bass, Kentucky Spots, & Largemouth. Looks like these

I mix 1/2 oz pure anise oil with Baitmate, before that it was Fish Formula. Some of my most productive lures came from little country stores.

One should be able to feel the change in vibration before the bass actually makes contact with the spinnerbait, the same thing holds true with crankbaits. The key is to keep cranking & resist the urge to set hook.

As much as I love pre-spawn I hate it equally as much! I mean ain't it bad enough the urge to spawn has em constantly moving, let's throw a major front in there every 3 days! Been there, done that, to many times, & is one of the reasons I quit tournament fishing.

I seldom use a trailer hook or a trailer (plastic) on spinnerbaits. Throwing spinnerbaits around grass with a trailer hook isn't a problem, try that around Buck Brush & you won't be getting that spinnerbait back. As for hookup ratio, some days I stick em all, some days I don't! In my opinion it's like pegging your weight...personal preference. I don't peg weights 😉

My goto is a Black-n-Blue 1/2 jig with a Rage Craw 4" Blue Sapphire Besides creek channels I like deep offshore structures

Instead of jigs I throw weedless plastics, lighter A-rig, fish it shallower.

I have a Texas Rig & Jig-n-Craw tied on 24/7/365, a spinnerbait is next! My favorite is "flipping" Buck brush during pre-spawn with a 1/2 oz spinnerbait. Give me enough room for 4-6 reel turns I'm making that cast.

I use to make spinnerbaits for a limited number of clients until I meet Lonnie Stanley. I keep Stanley spinnerbaits in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, & 1 oz. In each weight category there is a variety blade combination. And I have a skirt box. Unless I'm going fishing for more than a day I don't carry all of the with me. Even then I leave them in the camp.

I start night fishing in April & continue until October. This past February & March we had warm enough nights to go out.

Ringworms ? 1972 after my second weekend trip in a row to Toledo Bend I had yet to catch a bass. As I stood on the dock unloading the boat I picked up my worm rod which had a Texas Rigged Blue Rebel Ringworm in it. I made a 20 yd cast to a cypress tree & was rewarded with a 3# chunk. Since that day I've caught double digit bass across 5 southern states, won tournaments, caught my biggest stringers all on Ringworms. 2019 I won a Dodge Ram with a Ringworm Rings offer a larger profile yet has less plastic for the hook to penetrate.

Some where back in the 60s my dad rented a wooden boat that had slats nailed across the ribs for a floor. I noticed what turned out to be a Scoundrel worm (black with two yellow stripes). Dad rigged it weedless for me & I cast it out & let it sit while eating a sandwich. I noticed a whole row of pencil reeds laying over in a stright line & thought what the hell. Dad screamed set hook, I did & caught a nice 2# chunk. 60+ yrs later still chunking worms!
