  1. Personally, I use a 30 pound braid tied to a mono or co-poly leader. Co-poly does sink, but very slowly. Not enough that it will adversely effect the action of the lure unless you let it sit in place for a very long time.
  2. Well, at least you know the knife is sharp. Theres nothing worse than a dull knife..... ......especially when you're trying to cut off part of your face. Wokka wokka!! Glad they got it reattached and everything worked out in the end for you. BTW, I hope you got the TM freed up. After all that, it better be running great.
  3. Great lookin stick. The cork handles on the Steez look perfect with it. I constantly hear how good the Otterods customs are. I bet that rod will fish like a dream. Hope you get out and catch a giant with it.
  4. Hard for me not to go with GSP.
  5. This thread has delved into a place that no thread ever should.....
  6. Yeesh, Dwight. You come down here, and stick fish fish. You go back home up north and stick a big fish. Some people just have "it." You're definitely one of them, Dwight. WTG. Heck of a fish right there.
  7. I couldn't tell you whether or not it was fluke manufacturing defect, but the hooks that came on mine were dull and flexed very easily. Not exactly what you want in a hook. If I run across them on sale somewhere, I may give them a second try, otherwise I'll stick with the frogs that I've used previously and haven't had problems with. You can't deny that the paint job on those frogs is great. Unfortunately, it doesn't get seen by the fish.
  8. Steve, come on now. It's just not right for you to continuously catch those behemoths. What a tank. Great fish as usual.
  9. You know, I knew Power Poles were strong, but wow. You couldn't ask for a better product test/demo than those videos. Thats really impressive.
  10. Lol If you ever drove the boat that far, I may be forced to cut off your Tequila supply.
  11. Good to see all of you guys out there again today. Shame that no really big fish were caught today. I guess it's d**n hard to complain when you're out fishing on a Friday while everybody else is at work. Kevin and I watched three guys just whack a few four and five pounders back to back using shiners. The fish are there, it's just hard to compete with live bait. A handful of four pounders, and a pair of fives were caught. Good day all in all. Great weather too. For those of you thinking about going out to the south end of Lox, the water is low. Very, very low. We didn't even touch the flats. If you come off a plane anywhere outside of the canals, you may not be able to get back out without being on the TM. The canals west of the ramp are blocked off as well as the north canal. Keep an eye out for rocks when you leave the launch ramp. There is water to fish if you want to get out there, just run carefully. Watching that helicopter land of top of the truck to load up with chemicals to spray was pretty wild. I've never seen that before. Whoever was piloting that thing has bigger brass ones than I do. After seeing some of the smaller boats that were out today, I just may drag my little Jon out there at some point. Hell, I know that thing could have made it back into some of that excessively shallow water today. Look forward to the next time. Hopefully we can get out to the Lake while the big bite is going on.
  12. Base the weight of the jig on the cover you're fishing and the activity level of the fish. Thicker cover means heavier jigs.
  13. I bought one to try out. The hooks were horrible on it. Thankfully I got refunded, but it left a sour taste in my mouth. The detail on the body was just amazing, but I don't see that getting you any extra bites.
  14. I'm good with that. 10 bucks a head for anybody who wants to jump in the pot? Take a picture and get a weight? If somebody catches an absolute giant, I want to see that thing, screw the picture. Bruce won last time with a darn 4 pounder...Somebody has got to beat that.
  15. It's pretty hard to beat the Citica at that price point. The BPS Pro Qualifier is another great reel for a few bucks less. You can often find them on sale for about 80 bucks. At that price, they're a steal.
  16. Like parrothead mentioned, large woodchoppers worked aggressively on top are always a fun way to catch Peacocks. There are two problems with them though: A. You need stout gear, and a very stout arm to throw them all day. B. You need to be in and around fish large enough to eat them. I've found over the years down here chasing Peacocks, they just don't produce that much in Southern Florida. From what you said, you're probably chasing the same size fish that live down here. If you want to get them on top, lures like super spooks, heddon torpedos, etc etc will certainly produce. You'll also want an assortment of small jerk/slashbaits. Work them hard and quick. You should get bit. Flashy inline spinners and spoons can also catch Peacocks. Again, you want to work them pretty quickly. Hands down the single best way to just flat out catch fish is with live bait. You'll want to find out what the local forage that they eat there is. A small hook and a bobber and you're set. The best thing you can probably do is to ask around with some of the locals. See what they recommend to you. Nothing will ever beat local knowledge. Each area will be a bit different. The fish I catch here may well act completely different than the fish that you'll catch there.
  17. Where the heck do you buy that stuff? I've checked a lot of my local stores and nobody carries it. I sure as hell don't have an Avon lady that I can easily get some from.
  18. Final Update: Time: First light to noon Boaters: Bocabasser (Bruce) Capt. Shane (Shane) GLADES (Kevin) Jason from JD's Non-Boaters: SouthFlaBassAddict (Eric) - Riding with Kevin Catching (Dan) - Riding with Capt. Shane Capt. Bud - Riding with Jason Several guys had to cancel due to work related issues at the last moment. Bruce, if you've still got a seat open, I'd love to tag along with you. Otherwise, I'll be taking my tin boat out to one of the private lakes in the area here.
  19. More with Bad Bob. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1156494/fastest_gun_ever_bob_munden/
  20. Primarily shad, gold, ghost colors, and chartreuse. Add in whatever accent colors you'd like. They all work.
  21. You may want to try posting this in the Rods, Reels, & Line Subforum. I'd be willing to bet some of the people that frequent that part of the site can get you the right info.
  22. That is just freakin awesome. Seeing that shot on some of the super high speed cameras of today would just be amazing.
  23. Bruce, how's that Gambler worm? I haven't had a chance to use any of those yet. I like the DeLong's, but I hate paying for them.
  24. I still love watching the show. Kind of PO'd that I missed it last night. I'm certain that Discovery will continue doing what they have in the past. They've always run the previous weeks episode in the time slot before the new show is aired.
  25. 5200 very clearly states on it that it is permanent. It will not come off. Never put that on anything that you have any inkling of removing in the future. It's some strong goop. If you do what Rhino said, you'll be good to go. Silicone is some great stuff if it's used properly. Just make sure you let it fully cure before you tighten down on it all the way and you won't have a problem.
