Your rod should be rated for 4-10 lb. line and 1/8-1/2 oz. baits. You said you didn"t want to throw deep cranks with it. How deep are you talking about ? Unless you are throwing into ten ft. or deeper, your rod would be good enough if you have your drag set properly.

Just what are you calling heavy cover ? You keep saying you have to learn c-rig and drop-shot. You don't normally do these techniques in heavy cover. Again please define what you call heavy cover. Are you talking about surface or below surface ?
