Advice on new rod/reel........
To hell with braid unless you're froggin or pitchin' n flippin'. I'd get a good copolymer such as P-Line in 12lb or 14lb version.
-
Line Choice?
14lb Seaguar AbrasX.
-
One Combo For the rest of your life...
Shimano Curado 200E7 with a set of Citica 200E gears in it, to make it a Shimano Curado 200E6. 6'6" MH, fast-action Shimano Compre rod. 12lb Sufix Siege, clear.

Finesse fishing
Some smaller reels with shallower, lighter spools, like the Daiwa Pixy, Daiwa SOL, Shimano Curado 50, Shimano Curado 100D, Shimano Core 50mg, etc can throw light lures well.
-
Need a reel under $150
Curado E7 would be absolute best, but the Citica would work well too.

What line for crainkbait rod?
12lb Seaguar AbrasX sounds like what you need. :-[

First spinning gear setup...
One of the high end Pflueger spinning reels, the Supreme or Supreme XT, these are comparable to $200 spinning reels. Paired with an Abu Garcia Vendetta or St. Croix Mojo Bass.

revo sx or stx
I'd save cash and go with the Revo S. Just my opinion.

Baitcaster and bottom contact rod need - under $400??
When fishing baits where you need a lot of sensitivity, the ROD is actually most important. 7'2" Shimano Cumara rod, MH power and F action. $200. Shimano Curado 200E5 or E7, whichever retrieve you prefer. $179.

Best sub $100 baitcaster...
I think I'd be looking at THREE (3) different reels. One being the Catalyst PT by Quantum, 2nd one being the Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier, and the last being the Shimano Citica. The Catalyst PT is a $150 reel which is on-sale at Cabela's for $90. The Citica is regularly $120 but can be found on eBay easily for $95. The Pro Qualifiers are regularly $100 but are on-sale for $80.

Best all around line
12lb Sufix Siege, clear.

Give me your input regarding new setups
Frog/Flipping - Shimano Curado 200E7 ($145 on eBay) with a Abu Garcia Vendetta 7'3 Heavy-action rod ($80 new at retail) Poppers/Spooks - Shimano Curado 200E7 ($145 on eBay) with an Okuma EVX-A Crankbait rod, 6'6 Medium version ($70 new) Texas-rig/Jig - Curado 200E5/E7 (depends on if you want a fast retrieve or fast retrieve) ($145 on eBay) with a G. Loomis GL3 7' MH version ($230 retail) Crankbaits/Spinnerbaits - The Revo SX, with a Vendetta Medium or MH in ur preferred length.

Fluro coated mono lines
It's topwater, the fish are not going to see your line. Why choose a fluoro coated mono for a topwater line when you don't need anything clear and the coating of fluoro is going to make it sink faster than regular mono (which isn't a good thing with topwaters)? Stick with a good 12lb or 14lb mono. Sufix Siege for a Baitcaster. Or Sufix Elite if you prefer a softer line. Clear or green, either will work. Like I said, with a topwater the fish are not going to see your line.

Cheap frog setup
7.1 or 7.3 ratio reel with a 7' MH rod and 17lb mono. Daiwa Strikeforce, Berkley Lightning Rod, 17lb Trilene XT would be fine.

Best rod for walking the dog.
A short rod is, IMO, easier to Walk-the-dog with. A 6'2 MH Carrot Stix on a Shimano Curado 200E7 would be d**n near perfect. You need a higher ratio reel to pick up slack-line when a fish smashes your Spook or Sammy.

What # test mono/copoly/fluoro do you use most often on casting reels?
12LB. Don't need anything heavier unless you're fishing a Jungle.

Looking to get a good cranking rod and reel
A good all-around Crankbait set-up with a decent price would be... Shimano Curado 200e5 -- http://www.***.com/Shimano_Curado_200_E_Casting_Reels/descpage-SCER.html All-Star Team All Star Crankin' Casting rod (7' M moderate) -- http://www.***.com/All_Star_Team_All_Star_Crankin_Casting_Rods/descpage-ASTCKR.html

best reel for froggin'?
How much are you willing to spend? Soft-plastic "buzz-frogs" or hard bodied frogs? A lot of torque and drag pressure is an added plus on a quality froggin' reel. Since fish are going to get you in the "jungle" you'll need a reel with enough drag pressure to get them out. This is the only application that I'd recommend any Revo over a same priced Shimano or Daiwa. The Revo S coming in at $129 has 24lbs (TWENTY-FOUR!) of drag pressure which would make it excellent for fishing the tough stuff. Curado 200E7 would be a great choice too, but I favor the Revo's 24lbs of drag for the thick-stuff.
-
Line for Shallow Cranks
Since you're fishing shallow cranks, it's going to be a different line choice than when fishing mid-to-deep diving cranks. You're wanting to make your crankbaits run shallow, so you need a line that sinks SLOW. What sinks the slowest? Mono. 8lb if you can handle it on a Baitcaster (I'm assuming your using a baitcaster) maybe 10lb would be better. Suffix Siege or Elite. Siege is more abrasion resistant but Elite is better casting.

Can't decide on new reel
300E??? This IS a bass fishing site, isn't it? ;D 300E is a monster of a reel which holds 240-yards of 12lb line. It'd be good for tossing huge Swimbaits for Bass, and that would be it. Also a great inshore reel and a good Salmon, Pike, or Musky reel.

swimbait setup.....
Abu Garcia C4-5600 (DOES have thumb-bar) paired with a 7'9 H St. Croix Mojo Bass "swimbait" rod. This will only cost right around $200 and would be one HECK of a swimbait combo! First baitcaster?
Check eBay, dude. I would never pay $50 full dollars for a brand new Black Max when I could get a near $100 reel used on eBay for around $50. Find a decent baitcaster on eBay and spool it with 12lb Suffix Elite or Siege. Pair it with a 6' M Berkley Lightning Rod.
-
buzzbait and buzzfrog rod
I'd probably use 17lb Berkley Trilene XT in those situations.
