  1. also it usually takes 10-15 feet of reeling for the bait to get to its intended depth, so make sure you cast past your target by at least that much
  2. I thought the fish had to be more than 3 oz. heavier than the previous record to qualify him for #1
  3. I was going to say the same thing!!!!
  4. The lake i primarily fish has stained water. I have 1 bait caster, and 2 spinning reels. I use crank-baits, top-waters, plastics, and jigs. I'm not that great with the bait-caster, but I was thinking of putting braid on it for top-water, and jig use, and fluorocarbon on the spinning reels for everything else. Does this sound good, or what would you put on these reels? thanks.
  5. I've never used braided line, and I want to this spring. I know a lot of people use a fluorocarbon leader, but do you need to? Also I usually use a 12 pound fluorocarbon line. What does that relate to in braided poundage ( like the ratio of line thickness to pound test in braid)?
  6. I went to gander mountain and bought a soft tackle box to put all my bags of plastics in. when I got home, I forgot how many I already had , and don't have enough room for all of them. Should I buy a huge one? I have a Jon boat so I don't store anything in it. what do you store your plastic worms, etc. in? A big soft tackle box?
  7. I only use yamamoto senkos in green or watermelon. I wacky rig them with a bullet weight, and let it hit bottom. Then I'll jig it up and down a few times and reel, jig a few more, reel and so forth. I know a lot of people use them weightless, but I throw them into big clumps of weeds, and any trees, or structure. definitely read the senko section on here. It's where I learned most about them. good luck
  8. I usually replace the hooks when they get dull, but if I'm on the water, and it gets dull, I'll make no more than 5 passes on a sharpener. I've had times where I sharpened to the point where the point broke, then you have to replace the hook. When sharpening remember less in more. Don't do too much all at once.
  9. if you don't have split ring pliers, here's something that works. go to an office supply store and buy a 4 pronged staple remover ( the ones that look like a mouth with 4 teeth). They are like 2 dollars. It's what i use for changing treble hooks.
  10. log on bass pro shops, they have tons. I'd stick with a Lowrance or humminbird, that's just my opinion
  11. wasn't much of an optical illusion.
  12. that was funny, I'll have to remember that one.
  13. A little compound, and a buff job might work. Lol. If not, maybe some touch -up paint.
  14. that's pretty cool to have a hawk in your yard. I only get little birds and pigeons
  15. man, I used to love making igloos with my friends. Haven't made one in about 17 years...
  16. hahaha, that's funny as hell !!!!! Just a "little" incline !!!!!
  17. the cold weather and snow do put a damper on fishing, but at least it gives us something to get really excited about. Also the down time gives us a lot of time to research, and learn new things.
  18. last summer I took my niece fishing. she caught one sunfish, and she was amped. I wasn't really fishing because I was putting worms on her hook, and trying to teach her to set the hook, and so forth. I eventually threw out a couple casts with a lip-less crank bait, and I got a bite, set the hook and started reeling. She saw my pole bent and started to get really excited. When I landed the fish, it was a 13 inch perch. I unhooked it and let her pick it up and release it. I don't have any kids, but I know the feelings my dad had when he used to take me fishing as a kid. It was great.
  19. no but big bass lake is only a two minute drive from where Gouldsboro lake is. Too bad Big Bass is private, I'd be there all the time. Thats cool though that u fish there.
  20. just thought it would be cool to see what everyone brings as a snack or lunch on their day long fishing outings.
  21. Doesn't sound good to me. I'll stick with my mint Skoal!!!!
  22. I bought one. A lot of games are for little kids, but I just bought the new super mario brothers, and its really good. It also made me realize why I smashed so many Nintendo controllers as a kid !!!!!
  23. too funny. I had to bookmark that site
  24. That halftime show was the worst one yet. These companies want to make sure no more " janet jackson" incidents happen, and they have all these washed up "safe" acts.
  25. I have a landscape company, and I do carpentry on the side
