Crankbait Depth
also it usually takes 10-15 feet of reeling for the bait to get to its intended depth, so make sure you cast past your target by at least that much

3 rods, help choosing line
The lake i primarily fish has stained water. I have 1 bait caster, and 2 spinning reels. I use crank-baits, top-waters, plastics, and jigs. I'm not that great with the bait-caster, but I was thinking of putting braid on it for top-water, and jig use, and fluorocarbon on the spinning reels for everything else. Does this sound good, or what would you put on these reels? thanks.

do you need a leader when using braided line?
I've never used braided line, and I want to this spring. I know a lot of people use a fluorocarbon leader, but do you need to? Also I usually use a 12 pound fluorocarbon line. What does that relate to in braided poundage ( like the ratio of line thickness to pound test in braid)?

How you store soft plastics ???
I went to gander mountain and bought a soft tackle box to put all my bags of plastics in. when I got home, I forgot how many I already had , and don't have enough room for all of them. Should I buy a huge one? I have a Jon boat so I don't store anything in it. what do you store your plastic worms, etc. in? A big soft tackle box?

senko
I only use yamamoto senkos in green or watermelon. I wacky rig them with a bullet weight, and let it hit bottom. Then I'll jig it up and down a few times and reel, jig a few more, reel and so forth. I know a lot of people use them weightless, but I throw them into big clumps of weeds, and any trees, or structure. definitely read the senko section on here. It's where I learned most about them. good luck

Treble hook advice for crankbaits ?
I usually replace the hooks when they get dull, but if I'm on the water, and it gets dull, I'll make no more than 5 passes on a sharpener. I've had times where I sharpened to the point where the point broke, then you have to replace the hook. When sharpening remember less in more. Don't do too much all at once.

changing treble hooks
if you don't have split ring pliers, here's something that works. go to an office supply store and buy a 4 pronged staple remover ( the ones that look like a mouth with 4 teeth). They are like 2 dollars. It's what i use for changing treble hooks.

fish finder
log on bass pro shops, they have tons. I'd stick with a Lowrance or humminbird, that's just my opinion

To all my Northern Bass Brothers........
the cold weather and snow do put a damper on fishing, but at least it gives us something to get really excited about. Also the down time gives us a lot of time to research, and learn new things.

Take someone fishing!!!
last summer I took my niece fishing. she caught one sunfish, and she was amped. I wasn't really fishing because I was putting worms on her hook, and trying to teach her to set the hook, and so forth. I eventually threw out a couple casts with a lip-less crank bait, and I got a bite, set the hook and started reeling. She saw my pole bent and started to get really excited. When I landed the fish, it was a 13 inch perch. I unhooked it and let her pick it up and release it. I don't have any kids, but I know the feelings my dad had when he used to take me fishing as a kid. It was great.

Worst Half-Time Show Ever?
That halftime show was the worst one yet. These companies want to make sure no more " janet jackson" incidents happen, and they have all these washed up "safe" acts.
