  1. I wasn't being negetive....just saying I haven't thought about them for years. Anything on top of the water is fun to fish I'd get one and wear em' out.
  2. I loved that thing back in 1980 I have not used one in years....sometimes it pays to show them something they haven't seen.
  3. Thanks Guys. I've wanted one for awhile....finally talked myself into it.
  4. Thats the way I roll :
  5. Had a package waiting on me tonight
  6. Moderate...you want smooth hooksets. Plus a little give is nice up close to the boat.
  7. St. Croix PGC66MMF is a pretty awesome rod at $100. I would put a shimano D CU200DPV on it. That will put you at $300 though. I have a problem. Whenever I set out to buy something I always wind up spending more then my budget.
  8. I'm with Roadwarrior......I have never had a palomar slip no matter what size line. I use it almost all the time....even on fluorocarbon. Anything bigger than a hook or a jig gets a SDJ knot. If I'm using straight shank hooks I'll snell them. Three knots for me.
  9. Here's what I did when I was just getting going. I would decide on what technique I wanted to learn and then make that my #1 focus. I would read read everything I could find about it....most of the time I would set up a rod/reel specific to that technique....even if it meant having to buy new stuff : Then, most importantly that technique was the only thing I fished. The dedication can be hard when it's obvious that you could be doing better with another style but when you start catching fish you will know more about that lure then you ever have. It's easier to catch fish in the right conditions when you have had to catch them in the wrong ones with the same lure. I didn't answer your immediate question on what to use now but thought this might help.
  10. Nope, I didn 't take that one, I have a couple more but I can 't find the danged CD where I stored them > , they are even more impressive, they are from a 5 pound bass with a two and a half pound tilapia stuck in it 's mouth ( I weighted it ), if you 've ever seen a tilapia you 'll know why the pics are so impressive, tilapias are rounded ( a little bit less rounded than bluegills ), at that size they are the size of a dinner plate. If you find it let us know I'd like to see it. Cool stuff...thanks
  11. Aaron you're fine. Crank away Raul that photo is awesome 8-)...did you take it?
  12. I'm not sure about the soap but if it was me I would just change the hooks. I'm always changing them anyway, so for me it wouldn't be a big deal. I like new hooks.
  13. Nice fish. Welcome
  14. Welcome
  15. Amen to braid brother
  16. Tell that to my wife and the reel-filled shoeboxes in my spare bedroom/office. ;D
  17. I would look at your hook set first. Most of the people I know that have consistant poor hook-ups try to set the hook way too fast. Try giving it a little time before you set the hook and see if that helps. Another thing....are you fishing them on braid? Braid will definately help. Look at the size of most frog hooks.....you don't want any stretch in your hook set.
  18. Chrome, Shads, Reds, Browns, Greens/Firetigers cover everything for me. Color is not #1 on my list. I pay more attention on matching the action to the conditions. Color to me is more about contrast to the light penetration.
  19. I'm kind of junky ;)so I throw about everything. If I am trying to locate I'll always be crankin' Other than that I probably throw jigs most.
  20. Mine is pretty basic. Pumpkin for clear and watermelonseed for everything else.
  21. I'm no expert by any means but I crank alot. I don't get caught up in the names....I just try to learn how different baits act. LCs are a very consistant bait that runs great straight out of the box. That being said I don't care for alot of their models other than their flat mini series. As far as Jackall goes...same thing. Some I like some I don't. Some baits are wood like a DT and some are plastic....very different "feel" to me. One thing to consider....if you're not banging that bait off of everything around it, you're missing out on alot of fish. Obviously you will get hung up and loose some baits so....I wouldn't start out by buying a bunch of high end stuff. Especially when you factor in color and depth. You can get a bunch of baits in a hurry. Normans, DTs, Bombers will get you going. JMO
  22. RW that's a great knot! For me anything with a treble gets this...everything else gets a palomar.
