  1. Shrimp. Sometimes I'll throw a DOA New Penny swimmer or a Gulp shrimp when I get tired of putting on live shrimp every 5 casts... PITA! They are eating little blue crabs also. We checked two of the stomachs of the reds we cooked and they had little blue's in them.
  2. Horshoe Beach. Me and a buddy have been so much that the 15 locals know us now lol. Killing Reds out there right now.
  3. I got tired of searching out Bass here in the Gainesville area so I have made a few small changes to satisfy my needs... Going out again this weekend.
  4. Went out again, not a bite. I'm almost done with trying. Seriously done. It obviously works differently up here than it does for the rest of the state. There was a tournament going on and saw plenty of 3-4 lb fish being weighed. Not for me... You may be witnessing the giving up of a bass fisherman until I move back to Orlando. I just don't have the time for not catching fish.

  6. You can catch bass in a drainage ditch in Orlando. Not kidding. Take your pick.
  7. Any plastic really. Fish at the shorelines, cover, and drop-offs. Thats the name of the game here in Florida. My staple baits are Zoom ultra vibe worms, brush hogs, space monkeys, anacondas, jigs, torpedoes, and trick worms. All in watermelon, watermelon red, pumpkin, and junebug.
  8. Giving Santa Fe another shot tomorrow. Will post back if I catch anything.
  9. Catching nothing in Gainesville. I hate it here. Every post is negative. Worst area I have ever fished. The bass are here, they are just impossible to find. I didn't see one bed on Santa Fe yesterday. Makes no sense to me.
  10. Just hit Santa Fe again today. NOTHING. Not a bite. Cold front must have pulled them out. No beds in sight either. Im heading to Shired Island for some salt action... SOOOOO over the Bass fishing in North FL.
  11. I have either great days or terrible days at Santa Fe. I went to Loc once and I am never going back. Weeds are impossible to fish in or navigate in. I'm all set with that mess. I'm going to be heading out to Santa Fe this weekend. Finishing up some mid term exams and It's time for golf and fishing for spring break. Here is a vid I took of Santa Fe late summer of last year. Maybe the bit will be heated up and make for a better vid lol.
  12. I grew up in Polk/Lakeland. I don't think it is that specific. Bass are opportunistic and Craws aren't necessarily a main food source in all the water bodies. I grew up throwing worms, spinnerbaits, and buzz baits. I expanded my fishing after I got into high school and had a johnboat and private lake access. I NEVER fish live bait. I usually stocked up at Sports Authority or made a trip to BassPro. Although when I was young and living in Christina, The lake that that little Gas Station was on was across the street from me. I used to frequent that little tiny bait shop that is next to that auto repair place. If you are ever in there, look at the pics on the wall. I'm the little guy in the white polo and khakis holding a 6lber.
  13. Lizards and brush hogs. Throw em at the shoreline weightless, let them sit when they land for a 2 or 3 count them reel em back slow. They hit it when they start moving.
  14. Small creatures in the grass and up in the cyprus roots. I have seen some HUGE fish schooling and chasing bait but a KVD 2.5 did not get them to bite. This is my go to lake. I have fished it 6 times since I got here in Gainesville. 2 times I did pretty decent when flipping a creature on a 3/8oz weight at the shoreline cyprus roots and cover and around the grass. The other 4 times I got skunked but I did have a MASSIVE strike on a white Zoom swimin in fluke in the grass. I saw at least 24 inches of golden greenish color roll at my bait when it hit the water. All I gotta say is good luck. Try shallow and try deep. As nasty and dark as the lake looks, it's actually pretty clear. Use natural colors. Watermelon/red is my choice. I personally just stick to the shorelines because that's what I know best. Pic in Avatar is at Santa Fe. Here is a video of me catching nothing...
  15. Maybe next month. I just bought a new road bike so I'm going to be riding that a bit and school load is getting pretty tough toward the end of the semester. Good luck ladies and gents.
  16. Welcome, Mate.
  17. Ive got Christmas tree piles on 3 lakes in Lakeland from my HS days...
  18. Looks like a bowfin, dude. Really it looks like a cross between a gar, pickerel, and bowfin. Check this---->> http://www.kidsfishing.org/images/logos/FreshwaterFishPoster_Small.jpg
  19. Yeah after my career tanked and I realized that I hated it, I decided to make a change. I was an idiot for not using my pre-paid college when I was younger. Now I have student loans to contend with when I graduate. So stupid. Going to school at 30 for my Bachelors in Marketing and then my MBA. Life has been crazy to say the least. Going to school here in the swamp until the end of the spring semester and then transferring over to UCF. Go KNIGHTS! When I graduate, I am going to try to focus some of my efforts in the fishing industry. Sunglasses, boats, rods, reels, anything. After all, they are companies and they need people with education and passion to help run it and make it grow. I do have quite an entrepreneurial bone in my body... who knows, maybe I will start my own company.
  20. I suppose. Not sure how successful I will be. I will only be able to get out 4 or 5 times through the month. Freakin college... plus the waters here are crap. Pressured pretty bad and super finicky. I can't find patterns here in N.Florida. Even the gentleman in the local tackle shop have zero advise or tips to success. I find a pattern, do it next time and they are gone. Lakes here change their mind day by day. Never in my life. *sigh*. Central Florida is so much different.
  21. They all fill up with water at some point. After 3 or 4 casts, I just grab it and squeeze it a few times then back to work. Not that big of a deal. But if you really care that much, seal it all off at the nose and hooks with RTV, glue, or something.
