  1. I gave braid a real shot this year and put it on everything to narrow down on what I want to use it for in the future. Then I put some co-poly and flouro on and geez I hate stretch so much that I went back. What I hate about braid though are wind knots, wraps around guides easier, also when using anything lighter I don't like the larger bow in the line. I'm sure I'm loosing sensitive cause of it but it's hard for me to really judge. A couple pluses for me is no stretch and doesn't coil up like the other lines.
  2. I prefer a medium, XF around the 6'10" - 7'. Why the need for such a heavy rod? Price wise around $200? Personally for durability I think St. Croix makes a great rod.
  3. The LTB's are nice rods for the money I think plus you can upgrade to the extreme later on if you want! Yay for upgrade program!
  4. Only need 1, the Chigger Craw!
  5. I agree they are worth it. Even though I can go through 6 more durning a trip cause of notherns and snags but mostly toothy critters.
  6. Yeah that's my mistake I got it in 12lb and 20lb. I got the 20lb free, much heavier then I like but it's still super limp and so far abrasion is great. I think it's a must try. Next season I'll try Tatsu, minnesota season is ending to soon for new line.
  7. There are many good options to choose from. Seaguar, Yo-Zuri, sunline, pline, etc. More specific would be seaguar abrazx, yozuri hybrid, sunline sniper, pline ultimate fluorocarbon. So many more good lines though IMO, I've been using Diawa Steez fluoro this year and find it to be fantastic. Anyways, 12 lb is all I use on my baitcasters and wouldn't go lower then 10 lb.
  8. I say spend more on rod.
  9. Hey I love my Type R for punching. To each there own. A long rod and like J franchise said xxxh! I personally upgraded to the 7'11" HMF St. Croix extreme for punching, its a very sexy stick. I never used the mojo but I'm sure it can rip out stumps to. So the mojo is recommendation and you can use. St. Croixs upgrade program later if you feel like you want something better. Though honestly I don't remember any of the rod lineup below the extreme off hand
  10. I have both and love both of them. Either excel at light lures but how light we talking? 1/4 oz, 1/16, etc? If your talking all light lures I would maybe go more of a" fineese " reel like a pixy, etc. . Money aside, Steez wins without a doubt. Its much more refined and its a pitching machine. Its kind of a unfair to compare both equally. Daiwas flagship reel to shimanos higher end reel. One thing to think about is Shimano has more of a set it and forget it breaking system and daiwa takes a little more adjusting. Also the 103 takes a more of a trained thumb but once you get it down, you'll wish you had more!!! I'm stuck in traffic and doing this on my phone. Hope it makes sense!
  11. Ive been using Samurai and Suffix performance.
  12. I make mine around 3 ft, sometimes ill go longer if i know ill be throwing in heavier cover were ill need to retie more often.
  13. 1 hand 95% of the time.
  14. My pixy came a few days ago but haven't used it yet to really know what it is capable of. Would of today but we went frogging and tried out the new Z200. Tomorrow I'm sure to get it out and let you know.
  15. Yeah check out the site, it will tell you how to calculate your upgrade. It's very easy but if you don't understand there very nice people there and they walked me through what I needed to do. There upgrade program among other things is why I'll always have a St. Croix in my boat.
  16. I agree they are fantastic rods, would recommended them to anyone. Awesome combo you got there!
  17. G. loomis 853 NRX with a core 51 spooled with 70lb Samurai Braid. I've been using lighter trigs and jigs. The rod it self is extremely light and sensitive with a soft tip thats perfect for throwing accurate casts in and around various types of cover. 2nd would be my Steez SPX with a core 51 (soon to be a pixy type r) also spooled with 70lb Samurai braid. Lines a little heavier then I wanted but I had leftovers to use. This is a very unique rod and its been fun to use just because of that reason. Has the tip of a ultra light rod with a heavy butt section. I mainly throw weightless with it cause of its extremely soft tip but have tried light trigs/jigs and seemed to perform great. This is my newest rod this year so I'm still getting use to it.
  18. Ill have to hit it maybe on Tuesday then! Thanks
