Who's trying Google's new browser?
MSNBC had a comparison of Chrome vs. IE8. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26519075/

Gander Mtn. Elite Series
Last year I paid $60 for one of their 6'6" MH spinning and I like it fine. At first I didn't like the exposed reel seat, but now I've gotten used to it and it feels OK.

God made pickerel...
I can think of three reasons off the top of my head. They have low status. Even though they fight better, I have a much higher degree of satisfaction when catching a bass I've never fished a tournament, but they've got to be monstrous annoyance to those guys Biteoffs

Who's trying Google's new browser?
My son gave it a try. In his words, "it's a browser." He hasn't seen anything yet to make him give up Firefox.

God made pickerel...
Pickerel can be a pain at times, but I've always thought they fight better than largemouth.

pop r tail slap
I have no opinion on what's going on, but I know for sure that you need to do something different. That could include working the same bait in a different way or using other topwaters. Or, to put it in the language of the Lindners, your Pop-R had attracting qualities, but lacked triggering qualities. You need a lure or lure action that will do both.

GYCB vs. Generic Senko's...
I've used Senkos plus Yum Dingers and Zoom Z-Nails. There's no scientific basis to my observation, but I haven't been able to notice much of a difference. Regardless, I have as much confidence in one as the other.

Bred, check your PMs.

No longer shorebound....
Congratulations, you should experience a big difference. I bought a canoe, not a kayak, but it gives me some independence in getting off the shore and onto the water. Like you say, it's not a Ranger, but I've caught some great fish that I never would have otherwise. Enjoy!

Instant Replay
I'm all in favor, it's about time baseball caught up with the rest of the sports world. The majority of calls are validated which shows how well officiating can be much of the time, despite some glaring errors.

have any of you used these?
For those who don't like clicking on links, he's talking about Bass Assassin Shad Assassins, a 5" soft jerkbait similar to a Super Fluke. I've used them for 10-15 years. They're more expensive than Flukes for reasons I'm unaware of, but I've not been able to detect a difference in effectiveness between the two. The assassin weight about 15% more than a Fluke.

2 3/4 pd pickeral
Most of my pickerel have been caught on weed flats in the Finger Lakes. I couldn't possibly target them on those lakes. On those flats you might catch a pickerel from any spot you'd get a bass and vice versa. Pickerel will readily take any lure that a bass will. If I had to choose one I'd give a slight edge to spinnerbaits. The last time I was fishing those flats I caught pickerel on a Chatterbait. I have always though that pickerel fight noticeably better than largemouth of similar size, or actually, some largemouth of larger size as well.

Jon boat or canoe?
What are your needs? Why? Is there a significant difference in weight? The square stern canoes that I've seen aren't very light. For what it's worth, my partner can get his john boat in and out of his truck by himself. I don't understand this one. Since you're talking a canoe with square stern, that would mean that you're talking about using a motor. For strict motor use, I'd choose the john boat. On the other hand, if you often fish in heavy weeds where a motor can't get through, and you'd have to raise the motor and paddle, then the canoe would be better for that. Unless you have particular needs where a canoe would be more suitable, I'd go with the john boat. I bought a canoe last year but I had needs that only a canoe would meet.

Algae covered ponds
I agree with the previous posts that suggest that this might be duckweed. This is one of many photos you can find. In addition to fishing methods already suggested, I'll recommend trying one that I have a lot of fun with. Retrieve a weedless topwater through it at medium speed. Often a bass will crash through it, sometimes taking the lure, sometimes missing it. After a miss get a soft plastic ASAP and let it drop into the newly created hole; watch your line, the fish may very well take this followup presentation.

Fireline... leader or no?
I never used a leader with my smoke Fireline, but my partner uses one with his hi-vis yellow-green or whatever it's called. It's largely a matter of how much confidence the angler has in his setup.

new lightning rods=crap
Don't know if you got a bad one or if they're bad in general. But by all means contact the company for a replacement. No sense in you eating the cost for their quality problem.

Do I NEED a leader for braid?
I don't use a leader in any water clarity.
-
Braided on spinning reel
I used 14# Fireline for a few years, then switched to 15# Power Pro because the Fireline just wasn't casting as well as I thought it should. That's your call. My personal practice is to use enough mono backing so that the spool will be filled with 50-60 yards of the braid, more than adequate for bass fishing. I feel using more would just be a waste.

Manns Baby 1 Minus
Check the lure before each cast, the hooks tend to tangle.

crappie and pike
Pike will readily take anything in your tackle box, from topwaters to bottom crawlers and everything in between. Crappie will also take a variety of lures but, of course, you're talking different size fish and different size lures. You're certainly not going to target crappies with pike-sized lures, but don't be surprised if they hit them here and there and don't be surprised if the pike hit some crappie-sized lures. And don't be surprised if you get pike biteoffs if you're not using a metal leader.

What bait to use for bluegill
If you are limiting this to artificials, a variety will work well. I used to use small Kastmaster spoons for bluegill, but even though they were good, I switched to crankbaits, like Rapala Mini Fat Raps and tiny Countdowns. Crappie and perch I'd also use small cranks and 1/16 oz. or 1/8 oz. jigheads dressed with a grub. But I think any of these species will take most artificials that they can get in their mouths, and some too large for their mouths as well. I never used a fly rod, but one time my partner brought his along and he was getting good bluegill action on some sort of wet fly.

Very nice pike.

Anyone use firewire
I don't fish around rocks, but I've read that all superlines have lousy abrasion resistance against rocks. Fireline never broke on me and was incredibly abrasion-resistant against wood and vegetation. My only problem was it didn't cast as well as I would've liked on spinning gear. As stated earlier, Fireline is in the family of superlines, but it's fused, not braided.

Anyone use firewire
Is there a Firewire or do you mean Fireline? I used smoke Fireline for a few years and liked it except it didn't cast as well as I like on spinning, so I switched to Power Pro, which is also strong and just as abrasion resistant, but casts better for me. Certainly they can, as they can also see other types of line. The big question is does it deter strikes? I don't think so, but can't prove anything.
