  1. This is a down and dirty diy solution. It’s not the “right” way to fix it which would be rewrapping it but not unreasonable. Could last a few trips or maybe forever. If you go that route, after you glue it in seal around the foot with some clear nail polish to keep water out of the wrap and use care with rod lockers
  2. I can’t see full ceramic for anything other than a salt water application where corrosion is an issue. Hybrids help there to some degree.
  3. Rule of thumb for heat application to a rod is no more than you can comfortably handle bare hands. This is effective and leave a wide margin for error
  4. Improving free spool whether it’s accomplished by cleaning/flushing, upgrades or super tuning aids in casting light baits and improves accuracy by requiring less force to cast. Any added distance is ancillary and dependent upon the casters skill. I agree that those spinning spool videos are silliness.
  5. I use the Boca pliers and a hedgehog version of the press
  6. The difference between a wrap and guides is where the weight lies. TNF is specifically a tip recovery measurement so it can only be measured there. At the end of the day custom = to each his own.
  7. And some AR assemblies. Especially the new shimano one. Take my word for it.
  8. When asked, my advice is always to first flush and oil the stock bearings. The difference is immediately noticeable. No need to remove shields. Soak and agitate in acetone. Test, repeat as necessary. I thought the OP had his mind made up or I’d have told him the same. Ceramic hybrids can be run dry and that’s gets the most benefit. These bearings are a high performance upgrade so some quietness is sacrificed.
  9. The cheap bearings you see all over the web are a crapshoot. If you want to save money, your best bet is to replace them with ABEC5 SS bearings flushed and lightly oiled. The “best” is debated endlessly most often with anecdotal evidence that may or may not bare out.
  10. ABEC rating is an industry standard indicating tolerances. Ceramic hybrid (ceramic balls in ss cage) are what we commonly refer to a ceramic bearings. They are harder, smoother and rounder than stainless steel balls. As a result they spin easier and faster. ABEC7 bearings are the typical upgraded rating. I sell Boca brand as they’re a trusted reliable supplier. I sell them for $34/pr. If you let me know the models and number of reels I’ll check inventory. Payment via PayPal Invoice with an account or via card. Let me know if you have any other questions
  11. Sadly that’s what some shops call deep cleaning. Sometimes that’s all they need. I started offering an Econo service for just this purpose.
  12. Exactly. I’ll use a downward, side or 3/4 sweep depending on how much room I have.
  13. If you use a big (high) enough stripper you don’t need a second reduction guide especially with the low profile reels today. No harm though either especially in a cranking rod. I’ve used two DF guides just for aesthetics.
  14. Are looking to upgrade or just replace? I’ll hook you up with whatever you need
  15. A size 6 recoil is large diameter and high frame. I’d go with a Fuji RV6 or DF10 stripper, recoil RSPG5 runners 5 Torzite tip. At least a ceramic tip top of some type.
  16. March and April can get busy fast. Earlier the better but I’m here when you’re ready.
  17. Alcohol isn’t the most effective solvent for bearings. Acetone is effective and safe. Naphtha works well but precautions should be taken regarding contact and fumes. Deep cleaning of all bearings followed by spin testing is your next move. Don’t ignore the AR clutch. The root cause may or may not be directly related to the spool. Inserting the spool puts a level of load on bearings and gears.
  18. Don’t stretch fluoro as it’s not as elastic as mono, hence the misinterpretation that it doesn’t stretch. Treat with KVD line n lure conditioner regardless of coils but it will help that. No problem transferring the line
  19. My favorite part of the Uranus reel cover is the Klingon Velcro closure
  20. Set the drag normally. If the kayak moves it’s the same as if the fish is taking drag. They have pressure on them but also some give. I fish from a Tracker and bassraider and don’t have spot lock. Current, wind, the fish I never end up where I started.
  21. Couple of long casts it should lay better. If you hold tension manually when spooling you have to sure to hold it straight
  22. Rodgeeks c4 med/xfast. Fwiw I like spinning tackle for jerkbaits. Long casts, easy to throw into the wind, light line
  23. Modern quality multi piece rods are as reliable and functional as their single piece equivalents. Take extra care storing loose sections to avoid damaging ferrules. I suspect that was behind the Ugly Stick failure.
  24. I just posted a bunch of nice lightly used and new reels in the flea market. BassResource.com gets first dibs before listing anywhere else.
