  1. I’m suspending receipt of new reel service orders between November 1 and December 31 at which time I’ll be expanding shop hrs from then on. As always, Current orders will be completed as quickly as possible. Thank you everyone for your patronage, patience and support. Contact me with any questions. Mike
  2. Is that the XS model? I love that blank for lots of things. Makes a great jerkbait n top water rod with the fast but soft tip.
  3. I hear that. Better snag them up before I see it!!
  4. Same reason my all time favorite is the Core 50mg. Simple design, good materials and tight tolerances are where it’s at. 90% of the “innovations” we see are just marketing and attempts to stand out that don’t mean much on the water.
  5. Way too many variables for any kind of meaningful equation. Go with your own gut, experience and preference.
  6. This is a discussion best had with the builder. See what he suggests and offers as a fair trade. If you’re unsure or don’t trust the claimed value maybe it’s not the right deal.
  7. I prefer a subtle action on jerkbaits so I don’t throw a lot of slack into the line. I don’t find it critical honestly.
  8. A 6” senko is not light by any means. Any MH or some H rods will cast them no problem.
  9. Daiwa makes well performing reels but little if any of the credit is due to the t wing. The sv spools and mag force ( especially the z) brakes are their best features.
  10. There is no standard, it’s all subjective. Gloss over the label and look for what you like the feel of.
  11. If you don’t find a physical problem with the reel, learn to move the fish with your rod as intended and let the reel take up slack.
  12. At this price point you’d have to actually try to go wrong. Just a matter of personal preference regarding features. Unfortunately that’s not much help unless you try them all. Go with your gut and pull the trigger.
  13. Just a different marketing philosophy. Some people see spokesmen models as gimmicky and eroding the quality image.
  14. Their customer service is extremely slow to respond as well.
  15. One of my favorite things about Daiwa used to be their full but simple lineup. They’re competing with Lews to see who can have the most redundant line. Sorry for the rant. You’ve gotten good advice here.
  16. What does “fish like a heavy” mean? This is where the subjectivity of labels and opinions comes in. Can you elaborate on the application? This might get you more meaningful feedback.
  17. IMO this step up is noticeable. SCIV to SCV less so.
  18. There is no right or wrong 100% personal preference. Do whatever feels good to you. Personally, I would never add weight to a rod o paid extra for to have a light, sensitive, responsive blank and rod, but that’s me.
  19. Ya, he’s definitely measuring wrong. I also guess between 4.5-5.5
  20. KVD is a legend but on the back side of his career. Quantum has milked the relationship for all its worth and Lews is growing and made him a better deal. Not shocking at all.
  21. Yup, zebras and braid don’t play nice together. I’d go with a longer leader like you’ve been doing. A well tied slim knot like an Albright will pass the guides with no problem. Casting may be affected to a degree but not a dealbreaker imo. Reeling in the knot isn’t a big deal either but you can shorten up a little without losing anything. Bottom line don’t overthink it and adjust as necessary on the fly.
  22. First of all, why do feel you need a leader at all?
