  1. I use it. It's strong but yeah it does have a lot of memory. the KVD line conditioner does help though.
  2. where in the northeast. I'm in Monroe
  3. spiderwire stealth is super strong. but it's not so stealth after a day in stained water. and it's also like throwing winch cable to me. I prefer PP or samurai. with samurai being my fave. and of course in 65#.
  4. honestly I do feel bad. I made some negative posts about them and hell I've never even held one in my hand. I do apologize. they could be incredible. On a lighter note, I think the college logo and colors thing is a cool idea. Id buy a purple and gold rod!!! geaux tigers. I wish the guy and the rods success and I might even try one.
  5. yesss. I started a red flag post. I feel like a real member now!!!
  6. Colt Manning here from Monroe, LA. been on here for a couple of months. pardon my rudeness for the late intro. Awesome site. how bout them SAINTS!!! who dat!!!
  7. we had a fish kill down in louisiana this summer. mostly shad, carp, spoonbills, and gous and I have never caught more bass during one trip at any time in my life.
  8. the tape thing is a great Idea i've never thought of it. the only problem I see is added inertial mass to the spool or is it negligible. seems like it would make a difference when spool weight is such a big deal when pitching or flipping. isn't that what makes a curado or core such a good pitcher or flipper is having such a low-mass spool
  9. I agree here and think that there are many factors involved. maybe even the moons gravitational pull. there is something in their genetic make up that senses when the time is right. I personally think that water temp has less to do with it than what we think
  10. I agree here. I think the action would be faster
  11. I would go m/h with and extra fast tip. I think that a medium with fast tip allows the rod to load up a little when pitching making the spool start very abruptly leading to backlash. you can use the curado e spool but it's kind of high. I think you'll be just fine with the citica spool
  12. sorry to confuse i meant pitch
  13. And you could flip the same distance with line wrapped around a tin can... what exactly are you saying? when you said flip, he took it to mean that you used the flippin' technique whereby the reel doesn't do much except hold the line as the lure is swung by the rod and dropped into the target, usually only 7-10 feet away. well pitch then
  14. And you could flip the same distance with line wrapped around a tin can... what exactly are you saying?
  15. yeah the ace grease is the drag star grease i think. it came in a refresh kit for my old calcutta 200a
  16. Not to get too far off topic, but.... John, I've been using Reel Butter oil and grease for a couple of years with no problems. Certainly nothing like what you've experienced. What you've described has to be a contamination issue. Please do not take offence. I am not questioning your competence. If I didn't service my own reels , I'd trust you to do "em for me. But, if your lube turned into black goo, it got contaminated. Back on topic: It's been my policy to take a new reel out for a spin. Do a couple of days on the water to make sure everything is OK. If not take it back for a swap or refund. If it checks out OK, I'll tear it down completely, clean, re-lube and pronounce it good to go. I used to tear a new reel down before ever using it. After a refused warranty claim, I was forced to alter my process. A lot of reels come with way too much grease. I've heard it said that many of the parts are coated with grease to hold them in place during the assembly process. Makes some sense to me. I bought a new E7 last spring, and it was excellent right out of the box. Even better after a complete clean and lube. I would not hesitate to buy another, and probably will when I next decide that I need another reel. Sorry, man I totally disagree, and will add Abu Garcia Silicote to the Wall of Shame. Its not a contamination issue, its a heat issue. The grease doesn't stand up to heavy use. It breaks down after a week or so. This is what the parts look BEFORE they go into the US cleaner: I don't use reel butter i use the shimano ace grease and its clearish white even after a month. what are some better bearing oils to use. i'm open to suggestion
  17. pretty cool little trick. makes sense though. I always thought they were magnetic i guess the position of the beveled race depending on where it is limits how far the weights extend when the spool turns. doesn't seem like a very good system to me. seems like added friction.
  18. Hot Sauce in a Shimano?? :-? That's a Quantum thing and might void the warranty. I'd definitely check first before I did this. I'd return that reel for an exchange first thing, before you try to do anything else to it at all. Then when you get the next one, send it to Reel Mechanic right off the bat and have him strip it down, clean and relube it to remove the factory packed grease. I have no personal experience with this since I have BPS reels which he doesn't work on and I don't own Shimanos (except rods) but I hear he's a master at doing this and they come back feeling better than new when finished. He might could fix the one you have too but it's not worth tampering with since it's so new. Return for exchange on that before it's too late. Even if BPS won't exchange it, you always have Shimano's warranty....but not if you put Hot Sauce in it. yes hot sauce in a shimano... I said it. works well for me. kind of like at the drag track just about every pro-mod mustang has a chevy small block in it. it's just a low viscosity oil that's it. if it voids the warranty.. oh well. it shouldn't by any means
  19. I don't understand what you're saying. do they not work well together?
  20. mine got smoother and smoother especially after a clean and re lube. as far as i'm concerned there is no better reel and I have some revos and I like them. as far as the casting, I'd work with the weights. do you have the green or pink ones installed. I can flip a 3/8 jig over 35' with mine. one drop of hotsauce is all the bearings need. like someone said earlier, you might be over lubed
  21. I had one given to me, the 05 or 06 model I think. I'll put it this way, it is a backup to a back up. It is a smooth reel and looks really cool but i've never thrown a more finicky reel in my life. I personally don't like reels with just a mag cast control. I've taken this reel apart and professionally cleaned it and it still makes this chaffing noise when the cast control is even moderately turned up. with a trap tied on and the cast control off, I can d**n near spool this reel though. it's like I said just finicky and touchy when you go to anything lighter than a half ounce. these are only "my opinions" If you like em, roll with em
  22. I think both reels are great @ that price point. I just think that the mid range shimanos outshine the mid range revos. so I'm gonna have to go with the citica.
  23. I think they are pretty close to the same size and frame as the curado200dhsv. they have an identical profile at least. I bought 3 of them from academy for gifts this year. they were on sale for 39.99. I thenk they're a decent reel. has a lot of features that the higher end reels have. but yeah it is kind of big.
  24. I'll never use anything but braid with frogs after the fish I lost last summer... 65# samurai spooled over 20# mono is my weapon of choice
