  1. Trying to spend that $400 before the month ends or what!!?? ;D I haven't heard of them - got any pics?
  2. And the new xt will be a hundred bucks cheaper I believe.
  3. I was actually looking for an extra spool for either my Saros or my Symetre in the garage today, couldn't find either one of course. Did find one for a Sahara, but it said Sahara on it, couldn't bring myself to throw it on there. Maybe in a "reel" pinch. :
  4. I have been pulled in on by guys fishing tournaments and I've been pulled in on when I was fishing a tournament by guys that weren't. It happens in all kinds of different scenarios but it's always the same guys, just wearing different clothes. (If you know what I mean.) I think the biggest problem is this whole deal keeps paying itself forward. Somebody gets cut-off, then they figure they have the right to do it to others. It's contagious to a lot of people unfortunately. For example: I was fishing a draw tourney in a small club, and as I pulled in through the fog I saw someone from the club working the shoreline I was headed towards. I told my co-angler we should just move on down so I sped off. When we got down there he chided me saying that the other guy would have butted in on me so I should have done it to him. I didn't say much about it. Then at the end of the day we pulled into a cove to get out of a fierce wind. It had maybe 10 docks in it, we started at the first. The 3rd had a brush pile off the front. We weren't there 2 minutes when that same boat that I stayed away from earlier pulls in, on the third dock. I felt kind of stupid, because of course the co-angler couldn't stop talking about it and saying he told me so. Still, I knew I did the right thing and that is what matters to me. I just told him that's not my style. But I'm sure that situation just reinforced his philosophy of, "Do unto others before they do it to you."
  5. If you were happy with the Costa's, why not just get a new pair of those? I have had a pair of Costa's for several years, and I browse other brands all the time. But really when it comes down to it I'm happy as can be with what I have, so why switch?
  6. I know how it affects me. It ensures that I will not buy a product from that company. Not sure how I would feel about a big name company doing something so blatant, but for a rod builder who is just starting out, that is not a good way to do it in my opinion. Wreaks of foul play.

I have had some heel pain issues, and although I have some high quality Mizuno running shoes, I am most comfortable (i.e., in the least amount of pain) when I wear Teva flip flops while fishing. My second choice is barefoot.
  8. Gambler Ace;Zoom Trick Worm
  9. MET-Rx Big 100 Colossal Bar, Super Cookie Crunch or Peanut Butter Pretzel. One of these right before we shove off and I'm good to go all day. My son has become accustomed to an iced honey bun first spot we stop at. Needless to say I pack those first when he is joining me.
  10. Bass Pro Shops/Pro Qualifier
  11. X2 I had a Citica D on it, now I have a 4600 C3 going. I use it for frogs and horny toads.

Impossible to say that was the only difference. Even if you had the exact same line and exact same reel and exact same rod, you could not work the Dinger in exactly the same manner. A second or 2 difference in moving the bait could be a big deal. Not to mention you are throwing to different spots (sometimes only slightly different - maybe an inch or three - but it could also make a difference). I'm sure people can think of some other differences, although for a casual experiment, it is what it is. Personally, I don't think the single red hooks seem to be the same as a plain hook quality wise. Could they be made a little different in order to get the red to "stick" better? I don't use them because they simply don't seem to be as good. And of course, there is one other potential reason you outfished your buddy. He could have been holding his mouth wrong. ;D
  13. I have both. I fell in love with the Citica's at first, thought I would be buying them from now on. I still love them, but the PQ is a great reel as well. Got mine for $80, at that price you can't go wrong. (I also got one of my Citica's on ebay for $90, another steal.) I use the PQ with a rod that I throw topwaters and shallow cranks on, so I like the ability to change the external brakes so easily. With that said, I like centrifugal brakes better overall, and although I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another PQ, I do enjoy the citica a bit more. My one concern is how the PQ's hold up over time. I have mostly shimano reels, and I feel like even the mid range stuff is very well made. Seems like a lot of people are loyal to the PQ's though, so I feel confident about the craftsmanship. So far...
  14. I started buying Mojo's thinking the same thing as you - I wanted to try and get a whole series of rods, and the price on the Mojo's is right for that. However, after I bought 3 I realized that I am too particular about certain techniques to really be happy with one set of rods. In other words, I would rather have the exact rod I want for a particular technique instead of having rods that all have the same name. So I still have the Mojo's, but I also got several Kistler's, a Powell and an Okuma C3. And I am happy with them all...so far.
  15. Have to say Bassmasters. I look forward to that more than anything, although I'll watch just about anything that shows fish being caught.
  16. I have tried them a couple of times with no luck. I love the old Reel Magic lures that Roland Martin used to endorse. They were money in and over heavy cover. That was back before frogs became the deal. The Hounds don't seem to glide the same as the Reel Magic's to me. It makes a weird jerky movement when you stop it. They are heavier and thicker than the Reel Magic's. I have only tried them on one set up (braid), may try some other variations on tackle. Still love the theory of being able to walk the dog through the heavy stuff.
  17. Talk about God's country. Very lucky to live where you do. Glad you're enjoying it the right way.
  18. Way to figure 'em out. Where were you fishing? What kind of crank is that - love the color by the way.
  19. I like to skip shaky heads. It is tougher than unweighted senkos and such, but very doable. I go through a lot of worms though because they tear at the point where the hook enters the worm. Actually it's more of a loosening of the area around where the hook penetrates, not really tearing. I use a 6'6" MH Team Daiwa rod. Recently tried a 6'10" rod and to my surprise it felt uncomfortable skipping with it.
  20. Don't worry about a citica - it will get it done. Can get yourself a good deal on ebay.
  21. I have been switching a lot of combos up lately, and have a new favorite. 7' MH Okuma C3/Citica E/50 lb braid or 15 lb Big Game (have tried and enjoyed both lines, depending on cover)
  22. "Finding" a pattern is vastly different from "creating" one. Planting your own fish attractor is not done with a feeling of "good sportsmanship." It may not be against the rules, but it is shady at best. I have a feeling that the reason it is not outlawed is because it would be so hard to enforce. However, I don't think that is a good reason myself. Should certainly be against the rules in the top levels of competition IMHO.
  23. It is? That's news to me, especially as it pertains to bass fishing. The new thing is called catch and release - I know it's a relatively new fad, but hopefully it will catch on. I have friends who won't eat seafood of any kind, should I tell them they are not allowed to fish anymore?? Sure, taking it home and eating it would have been the best scenario, or maybe find someone to give it to who would eat it. But cccsguy did try to teach his daughter something in what can be a challenging situation. I am just glad he is taking her fishing and NOT playing video games with her.
