  1. Will a $300 rod catch more fish than an $80 rod? This is a serious question. Is the performance of the top-of-the line pricey rods (Shimano, Steez, Loomis, St Croix, etc) so advanced that it will help any angler catch more? I have a Quantum Superlite M/MF ($229), a Crucial ($150) A Compre ($100) and three SCII blanked St Croix's ($70 to $100) and a couple BPS Xtreme rods. I don't catch more with one rod or the other? Heck, I really like the Compre line of rods! Are high end rods & reels more of a trophy to the owners, who can brag they have "The Best" or are there hard facts that the expensive gear catches them more fish?
  2. The reel apparently just needed a little lube on the bearings. No need for the warranty
  3. never fished the "others", but you recommend them. Oh-Kay : I have that 6'8" "wacky" Mojo rod. It weighs 3.9 oz. Hardly what I'd call heavy. It's just a bit tip heavy with a Daiwa TD-Pro 2500. All-in-all a nice sub $200 senko rig. I figured he wanted more of an all around rod than a something basically for weightless plastics. You got wicked mind reader skilzz, Dude Point being you have no experience with any of the particular rods mentioned, but continue to make recommendations. Rock on
  4. never fished the "others", but you recommend them. Oh-Kay : I have that 6'8" "wacky" Mojo rod. It weighs 3.9 oz. Hardly what I'd call heavy. It's just a bit tip heavy with a Daiwa TD-Pro 2500. All-in-all a nice sub $200 senko rig. I also have a 6'6" Compre MH/F, again with a TD-Pro 2500 Both rigs, spooled with 8# P-Line CX weigh exactly .88 lbs The Compre balances right at the finger cut-out in the cork handle...Nice! The handles on the Compre line of rods feel great to me The Mojo balances right in front of the cork. This is very common with all those new-fangled split grip rods, a little tip heavy. I cast wacky-rigged senko's far and accurately with this set-up The Shimano Compre rods carry a no BS warranty. 8-) I have no experience with the Bucoo, so I can offer no opinion
  5. There are a few guys who post here that service reels for a very reasonable fee. If you're not comfortable opening up, diagnosing and repairing your reel, I suggest contact one of these gentlemen and have your reels serviced by a pro. They have the know-how and parts/lubes on hand You won't regret it
  6. A few fun facts, The levelwind is disengaged while casting. Some folks prefer grease on the levelwind, while others like oil. Either will work fine. One method is no better than the other Brakes. The Citia has brakes, and you can set anywhere from zero to six brakes. I recommend starting with three on. I use two on in my Curado E7 The spool bearings are indeed greased. If you clean then and lube with a bearing oil, they will spin more freely. The rod has a lot to do with casting distance, as does bait choice
  7. Note that the St Croix Triumph, Premier and Mojo series rods all use the same SCII blanks. They are essentially the same rods, made in different places and painted different colors Bass Pro has Bionic Blade rods on sale right now...great rod for $50 Shimano Compre rods are a good value at about $100, and carry a lifetime warranty. The Clarus series rods are about $20 cheaper and still have the no BS warranty. Okuma rods are also very nice, and have a great warranty as well. EV-X rods are about $90
  8. They are very popular he in my neck of the wood. My bud swears by them, and has 6 or-so. I have a 6730 and it's a fine spinning reel. I could spend 5X more but still wouldn't catch more fish!
  9. Silly me, I don't know what type of reel that is? What type of baits do you want to throw with that reel?
  10. I don't understand the 2mm, 1/2" and 1/8" comments. If you're rotating something, you measure in degrees. To open, you turn it clockwise (on a LH reel) about 20 degrees. CCW the same amount to close it. Make sure the brakes are pushed in towards the center, or you can damage them (which is what I bet's going on with your reel)
  11. Maybe by page 3 we'll finally find out what reel basser223's inquiring about? Oh, the drama
  12. Will do Just got back from the local Bass Pro Shops. I went with another 2500 sized reel.
  13. Don't you think it would be wise to wait awhile before you buy more , two times using it is not proof that it is a quality reel. It's a $70 clearance-priced fishing reel and won't be around for too much longer. I need another spinning reel. Others are happy with them, and one guy isn't, and he's trying to sell me a different reel (maybe he has an agenda, I dunno?) Good enough is good enough for me 8-)
  14. I've fished the TD-Pro twice now, and I'm very happy with it. I'll be getting another later this week
  15. Steve, what are these plastic handle spacers you speak of? I've opened up the reel and had a look inside. Part # 65? I can't find the TD-P schematic online, but here's a link to the Exceler, which has the exact same handle configuration. 3 very positive reviews. 1 very negative review. Seeing as I have the reel now I'll just use it and hope for the best. 8-)
  16. You guys pushed me over the edge. I drove out to Bass Pro-Foxboro (again!) and picked up a 2500 and spooled it with some 8# P-Line CX. Now you got me thinking that I should've got 2 reels! 8-)
  17. Bass Pro has these on sale for $68. Felt pretty good to me, and comes with a nice spare spool. Anyone have any experiences with them?
  18. So you bought the reel TODAY and can recommend it? Do you fish a Revo SX? Get back to us after the season gets going
  19. Open it back up, but this time re-assemble it correctly! ;D
  20. Before ordering, read their policies regarding internet sales and fishing equipment. I did, and I will not order anything from them YMMV :-?
  21. read all about it in the fishing articles posted up top
  22. Good score! 8-) My local BPS was all out of the Sol's & Fuego's :'(
  23. Also note that Daiwa "Blue Grease" in NOT drag grease. Daiwa does have specific drag grease...DG505 IIRC?
