Vocational school
Good for your daughter! Class of '79. Bay Path Vocational-Technical School, Machine Shop There are now more stringent requirements to enter "trade" school. Frankly MORE kids should consider trade school as I see too many college kids graduate with no direction and end up in dead-end jobs. Thing is, many parents insist their children go to college, even if it isn't the right choice for the kids. There are book smarts, and there are practical smarts. There is no shame learning a trade. Many folks make a good life for themselves. My son barely made it through high school. Now he works as a contractor. Trade school would have helped him, but he was/is a stubborn one!

Flipping reel advice
I picked up a Dobyns Champ 735 during the Black Friday sale...used 2 gift certificates and got the rod for $180 I think it's the perfect platform for a Daiwa TD-Z 103HL 8-) The reel holds maybe 80 yds of 50# Cortland Masterbraid, which is plenty c'mon spring!

Reel Bearings
What the heck, I'll jump in... If bearings are greased, I drop them into a jar filled with naphtha. Naphtha dissolves the grease exceptionally well, but it does NOT remove all the grease. Next, I blast CRC Electronic Cleaner through the bearing, utilizing a bearing cleaner tool. That CRC stuff is great. It WILL NOT harm paint or plastic. It's great for blasting out ant-reverse bearings while mounted in the side plate. Just don't get any in your eye! I then blast compressed air through the bearings while they're in the cleaner tool. It all sounds more complex than it really is, but the bearing cleaner tool is what makes it all work out so well.

Anyone here play harmonica?
When I started blowing a harp, Honer was the only game in town...I don't think Lee Oskar was born yet! ;D Marine Band's were $7 Marine Band's are great, but Blue's Harps are my favorite. Get an A or E if you want to play along with Blues albums, as many will be in those keys. Heck, you'll end up with every key if you stick with it. I always rinse them with hot water. Some folks never rinse 'em and say they last longer. I like to get all the spit out of 'em! And note that you can bust a reed the first time you play it. I wonder what the reeds are made of in a Special 20?

Would it be worthwhile to purchase this broken G Loomis broken rod?
Different people see things in different ways. Me, I'd call that stealing. That is why Loomis had to change the warranty according to Bantam1 who posts here (He's the Shimano, GLoomis & PowerPro factory rep)

Any KVD spinning Reel Reviews?
No. It would be dumb to use a reel you don't want. Return it and get that president. You wont be disappointed.

Handguns
Well, we'd have to leave to got to the range! 8-) Nice CZ's. I was looking at a barely used steel framed Tangfoglio CZ-clone Saturday. It was in excellent shape and was $250. Betcha that SP-101 is a handful with full-house 357 loads!!!

Rounds in the home
I measure the quantities by the case, not by the round! I rekon for a fishing forum I have a lot of ammo and reloading components, but on the gun forums, I'm just one of the guys ;D

Wow. New low in customer service.
Not really. There's no mention about this being a warranty claim. It's takes time to open the reel and access the problems. Time costs money. People need to get paid when they work...I know I like to get paid when I work This. It cost more to ship that reel in for repair than it's worth. Bad customer service, or unreasonable customer expectations?

Tackle Warehouse sale is on
I bought 2 $100 gift cards for $180 (10% off gift cards), then ordered the Dobyns Champion 734C which is $200 with the 20% black friday discount, so I end up getting the rod for $180. I opted for the regular free shipping because we aren't doing much fishing around here these days...and I got a free T-shirt! 8-)

Dobyns vs Powell
Great post, Dan-K 8-) Myself, I have one Powell rod. It's the 6'9" "Squarebill Crankbait" H/XF rod the TW offers. I find it balances about 3" in front on the centerline of the reel (Daiwa Fuego). All my other Rods are ST Croix Avids and LTB's. I find they balance at or near the same point. Seems any rod came be designed to "balance" is the manufacturer places the reel seat forward enough, or weight is added to the butt. It would be interesting to know what these particular rods actually weighed Because of all this Black Friday stuff going on, I have 2 Dobyns Champion rods en route. One is the 684C which should be similar to my Powell, and a 734C. I'll have to check back in a few weeks and ya'll hear what my thoughts are.

Dobyns vs Powell
Sorry to pick on you, but it's statements like this that just throw common sense out the window. There are MANY Dobyns rods, around 60 bait cast rods in three distinct series. The Powell MAX and Endurance rods are priced in the Savvy series range. So when you make a claim like that, back it up with some particulars. rant mode off

Daiwa SOL question
Bryan, I gave my Sol the full ChuckE/TackleTour treatment. The drag discs were replaced with carbontex and the (steel) drag washers were ground flat and polished. This results in a powerful but VERY smooth drag The spool bearings were replaced with Boca Orange Seal bearings I added a bearing to the worm gear. I polished the pinion gear face and (lightly) polished the 2 diameters that fits into the frame bearings. I polished the internal contact areas, de-burred everything that had a burr and polished the ends of the spool shaft. I flushed and greased all the frame bearings. Was it worth it? To me it was. I enjoy tinkering with my reels and trying to squeeze all the "performance" I can out of them

Daiwa SOL question
What I did was to surgically remove the stock Sol knobs from the less-than-inspiring factory handle. These gray knobs accept 2 bearings each! I installed those knobs on the I'ZE handle and a handle from my TD-Z. I prefer the basic Daiwa knobs over any of the over-priced but cool looking aftermarket knobage.
