  1. When I was going through initiation week for my fraternity, I was so tired I pretty much fell asleep anytime I wasn't in the fraternity house... I missed the stop on the bus route and got woken up by the driver at the end of the route. I missed the professor dismissing the lecture and got woken up by my friends after half of the next class was in the lecture hall. I missed studying for the big test I had on Friday because I fell asleep in the middle of the floor of my dorm, sad part is I wasn't on the floor when I fell asleep. Most fun I never want to have again.
  2. Kennesaw checking in. Haven't had much of any time for fishing this year.
  3. Exactly how small is this lake? I really doubt ONE guy is wrecking the population especially if he's only hitting one spot. Though, by all means, if you're positive he's breaking the law then report him.
  4. When I dream of a banner day, it falls short of this. I hope I see a day like that with my own two eyes.
  5. Best tuna fishing I ever experienced was after a water spout went thru the spot we were fishing. Waited a couple of minutes and went back over the grounds.
  6. Hooks have a tendency to pull and lines snap at max drag. Additionally, some fish are just stronger than your drag. For example, I've caught 70 lb tarpon on a spinning reel with a 20 lb max drag. If I tightened it down all the way, the hooks would pull out, but even if they didn't that tarpon is going to take line no matter what. So, you just have to be patient and wait until the fish wears down and keep pressure on him.
  7. In Costa Rica, I hooked into a roosterfish on a charter to find that the drag was broken and maxed out maybe had 2 lbs of drag on it. Basically had to fight the thing like I had ultralight on and was using my thumb for a drag. Fight went about 45-50 minutes. Other long fights were a 25-30 lb mahi on relatively light tackle, Snook from the beach on my bass rod and 8 lb test, and about a 120 lb tarpon from a kayak that I ended up losing at the last second after it drug me about a mile.
  8. In order of preference to target: Dolphin Sailfish Snapper Grouper Snook Tuna Jack Bass Bream Catfish In order of most often: Snook (though I get Jacks way more often as bycatch) Dolphin Sailfish Bass Snapper
  9. You can get a fishing kayak for cheap enough. They're more fun anyways.
  10. Well, I just got married so I can check that one off the list. My wife forgot to pick up the powerball ticket tonight, so that isn't happening anytime soon. I would love to retire to the keys or south Florida with a boat and a property in Costa Rica, Cabo, or Bahamas depending on which I like best as I explore. Hopefully I get the position I'm interviewing for which would probably put me on a quicker track than I currently am to accomplish those goals. Either that or not have married a teacher.
  11. Put me in the pool of folks who just don't get it. I'm sure there could be a scenario where I would most likely due to being stuck in a hot, smelly cabin, but I've even been in that situation in 8-9 ft w/ a 20 kt wind and not felt anything. My fiancee, on the other hand, is a complete mystery. It could be flat calm and she'll get sick, but follow it up with 5 ft swells just as happy as can be.
  12. I was gonna say 2.5-3. Glad I was seeing it right!
  13. Do they eat them in El Salvador? I tried that once with a friend just to see...better than I thought...ended up ordering a pizza.
  14. Time to start convincing my fiancee...she sure liked catching her sailfish and roosterfish in Costa Rica. Back on topic (I'm about 6' 190 lbs):
  15. Took some friends down from Georgia this past weekend and let them tug on some amberjacks out off Hobe Sound... They were worn out from the little 10 pounders we were catching, I showed them a picture of some bigger ones just to embarrass them. Get back to the dock to clean up some of the snapper we caught and there was a whole mess of some HUGE jacks
  16. Didn't see any sharks when I last went snorkeling, but did see a large grouper, yellowtail and a hogfish. In Jensen Beach, we get the blacktip and spinner sharks real thick during the bait runs. I've had pretty large ones (around 6 ft) come up in the surf on one side of me and out with the wave on the other when I was less than knee deep. Unfortunately, this year's bait runs have been weak which means less tarpon as well.
  17. Decent sized one there. They're all over down here. Next time you come down take a party boat out and you'll catch a ton. They've got a closed season because apparently they need protecting (I think they could stand to be whittled away at for a couple years, but I'm not a marine biologist) but it's open from June 1st - sometime around September.
  18. Also, y'all are crazy not gaffing that big one. I would've found a way to get injured by that fish flopping around. :thumbsup
  19. Almost had the same thing happen to me reeling in a big fish. The seas had picked up too much so my buddy was at the wheel and we hit such a big wave that the deck of the boat just went out from under me. I landed on the other side of the transom on the engine mount. Never go out in 8' seas in a 27' boat with only two people. That's the lesson I guess.
  20. Good job on the hooch bass, that's a big one for that section of river
  21. This sentiment is more prevalent during the afternoon and evening hours only to be reversed the next morning. I'm a nuclear energy consultant at the moment, but have been considering a change in industries and/or career path within my industry. The negatives for my industry mostly relate to the engineering and management side of dealing with enormous amounts of inefficiencies due to regulations and tedious record-keeping processes. The positives are that this results in an EXTREMELY safe work environment compared to other industrial workplaces. I haven't seen that mentioned here. For whatever you decide to do, make sure that it's in an industry that places a priority on putting you in safe working conditions. You want to enjoy what you do, but you also want to come home fully functioning as well.
  22. Caught a 26" one off the docks at my place the other night. I'd been trying to catch the thing for weeks. I need to spend some time down at Ft. Pierce Inlet for em.
