  1. To me it is all about the "WEIGHT". I use mine for smallie's. Never missed a beat.
  2. Bottom junk, I spend more on the rod, moving baits, I spend more on the reel.
  3. Do not put to much into bearings. A $100.00 Shimano with 5 bearings should out last a $50.00 reel with ten bearings. It depends who made the bearings and what material they are made of. Shimano is big in the bicycle racing market, and their bearing savy is in their fishing reels also.
  4. May I ask why you find Yo-Zuri soft terrible. I just got a 600 yd. spool of it.
  5. Just a "nice" smallie, congrats.
  6. Ok, my thoughts. Does spending more money on a rod or reel allow me to catch more fish? Maybe, but not too sure about that. Now, does spending more money increase the fun factor of fishing for me? Absolutely 900%. I fish mainly spinning gear and only have two bait casters, one deep crank bait rod and the other a GLoomis mbr783 glx with a Core50mg7 mounted on it. Allot of bucks in that glx and core, but I got them on line in classified sections. Back to my point. That one glx/core handles a bunch of techniques, small cranks, t-rigs, c-rigs, small jigs, etc. It is a light outfit and when I go fishing I want to enjoy my equipment and maybe, just maybe catch a few fish. So where would I put my money? Even -up. That being said, I do not want an anchor of a reel mounted on a light stick. That would definitely take off some" fun factor" points. I am retired and at one time it was the number of fish, now it's the number of times I get out to fish.
  7. I use mono because, "I HATE BRAID". Nuff said.
  8. Would a Avid 6'6" med. fast, have been a better choice for the OP's requirements? I was looking at the same 6'3" rod but now I am thinking 6'6". One is "fast" and the other is "x-fast".
  9. Nice outfit, should work. Take it out and fish it. If it is comfortable, and it does what you want it to do, then you got a winner.
  10. If you have to ask if it's a good idea, it's probably not.
  11. Na !!!! With me it's the next reel or rod I get, that will be my favorite.
  12. My rule of thumb is: If I am throwing 1/4 oz. or less (total weight of bait), I will use spinning gear. Most everything over 1/4 oz. will be on my baitcaster. Exception to my rule. "What ever you feel comfortable with". Rod spec's will be a starting guide as to what it will handle, the rest is up to you. On your MH rod, check out the spec's on the rod and go from there.
  13. Does your trailer have brakes? If the answer is "yes", then maybe, your call. If the answer is "no" then I stand by my previous post, no. Coming to a controled stop at a stop sign is one thing, hitting the binders in an emergency is a whole different trip, for you and any boby in your line of travel.
  14. Too many "Yes, but" for me, (ramp, stopping, clutch, block under tire) I would not do it. It's all comes down to safety. Just my 2 cents worth.
  15. This is a joke, right ??????????? No, hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  16. 50mg7. I just love this reel. Fits in my hand just perfect.
  17. It's a safety issue. "Your safety". You can tow with less, but stopping is another issue. Trailer brakes are a plus but I would still want some more beef in front of the trailer.
  18. I just put the rod in the "Flea Market" section.
  19. I have a great rod for dock fishing. GLoomis GL3 SJR 722. Let me know if you are interested.
