  1. I peeled the paint off of the tail section of my 4in Chartreuse Shad, leaving only a white tail. The tail bends considerably more freely when compared to a Clear Bream (lots of paint) of the same size. I would like to test it out in water, but the trout stream I live by, where i test lures, has been froze over for the past few days.
  2. Havoc Juice Worms or Craw Fattys. The PowerBait formula doesn't taste right to me.
  3. I threw some old running shoes in the living room, pitched a jig to 'em, set the hook, and released them alive after a very short fight. Kept me busy for about 6 minutes.
  4. Another vote for the pit boss. I also like finesse flipping a zoom centipede in really clear water.
  5. As Tlaz said earlier, I think you should throw in a free jig to sweeten the deal. I really think it would help sell them to customers on the fence about ordering one, even if you bumped up the price a little.
  6. Like 4 years ago I decided to join this site, so I tried to come up with a cool name. This is what I came up with. It's kind of funny because there is no heat in Wisconsin . I actually use this screen name for a lot of other things. so thanks BassResource!
  7. Wouldn't you think Wisconsin and Michigan are higher as well? Wisconsin is full of natural lakes, has the Mississippi running down the length of the state, as well as a large portion surrounded by Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. The state of Michigan is well, a peninsula, surrounded by Great Lakes on three sides, the UP has a lot of shoreline as well. To answer the original post, best state for bass fishing? Not Wisconsin. I love fishing here, and there are a lot of opportunities for largemouth, smallmouth, and other species like walleye, pike, muskie, sturgeon, and other great game fish. But the fishing season is SO SHORT. Fishing season for bass and most gamefish is the first Saturday of May until the ice is on, which is sometimes as early as November, and fishing can get really, really tough in October, and 6-7 months of bass fishing is just not enough .
  8. Well last year some bass spawned underneath the ice. I don't know if it happens a lot but last year we had one of the longest winters in a long time. I couldn't believe it when i saw balls of baby bass on the fishing opener.
  9. Welcome! Always good to see more Wisconsinites here!
  10. Yes, they can be, but shakey heads generally come with larger sized hooks to texas rig the plastic (usually a 4-7 inch straight tail worm). Regular round ball head jigs usually used for walleye and such could work, but I wouldn't texas rig it because of the small hook. If you were to thread the worm on with an exposed hook, they could work well, but would be less weedless.
  11. I remove the split ring and use a snap.
  12. That's a really great idea. Can't believe I've never thought of it, you bet I will be trying that out this year.
  13. I use improved clinch knots on both ends. Great hooks, no complaints.
  14. There was a play station 2 game called Top Angler. Holy crap it was/still is the best fishing video game ever made (barring maybe the strike, I have never played). What made Top Angler so good was that (almost) every lure did exactly what it was supposed to do. Jigs worked when popped off bottom, dragged, swam with jerks, or pitched to bass. It had texas rigged worms and a lizard, the cranks worked the way they were supposed to, and it had willow and colorado spinnerbaits. Basically the lures worked the way they do in real life and there was also a large variety of lures to choose from. I've tried a few other fishing games, one being Rapala, but what really makes the game off putting is the restriction of only rapala crankbaits, as well as the fact that every fish was caught exactly the same way which was extremely boring. I also had a Cabela's Big Bass for PS2 and I played it for maybe 20min. Every single lure worked exactly the same way, slow sink and retrieved while moving in a circle; it didnt matter if it was a jig, crankbait, or worm. Exact same way. Also when you hooked a fish, even a small one, the fight would take 3+ minutes every time, and the fight would involve a bunch of bonuses and arcade style power-up style things going on.
  15. A lot of the same stuff atmy local walmart was on clearence as well. They moved it off the main isle too so I think they're gonna get loads of new tackle in.
  16. Terminator used to use those skirts on some of their older jigs. I still have a few of them with the textured skirts. It does slow down the drop a noticeable bit. I also just really like how the skirts felt to the touch. I'd like to believe they feel more natural to the bass and they'd hold on longer; I haven't done any testing or anything, just a thought.
  17. I got a pack and they do work. I personally just do not like the ribbed design.
  18. Most of it is going to pay for this semester of schooling, maybe I can squeeze a $50 TW order in. Or maybe a sub to one of our awesome monthly boxes.
  19. 1) Senko (BPS Stik-O is my fav but they all work) 2) Havoc Pit Boss ( Various colors, can't choose) 3) 3/8 ounce flipping jig (Black Blue, or a Green Pumpkin variation) 4) Spro popping frog (Black is best color, Red Ear is good too) 5) Big Bite Baits Shaking Squirrel worm (Something natural colored) 6) 1/2 ounce Booyah Tux & Tails double colorado spinnerbait (White and Chartreuse) - -Don't use this a lot but is my go to bait when the water is murky. 7) Suspending jerkbait (Xcalibur Eeratic, LC pointer, Lucky Strike Rc STX, Spro McStick - I have a couple of each, still haven't decided on a favorite model) 8) Xcalibur Zell pop (Ghost minnow or Pearl) 9) 1/2 ounce football jig (Green Pumpkin variations, Black and Blue) 10) Berkley twitch tail minnow (any baitfish pattern)
  20. In my experience Bass Pro's Stick-O is a dynamite lure. I like the 5 3/8" size; it makes it cast a TON farther and doesn't make the lure look too big for the bass in my area. Its my favorite stick bait, bass can't stay off of the watermelon red either. I also like the 3 inch stick-o when drop shotting or finessing panfish/ really small bass. I haven't tried many other of their lures, but some terminal tackle like flick-shake jigheads and weighted hooks seemed to work fine from them.
  21. I use larger split-shot weights when I dropshot shallow water (10ft or less) from shore, they work well for me and are pretty cheap.
  22. If you are not using a spring-lock style shakeyhead, the already mentioned Elaztech worms by strike king or Zman float extremely well.
  23. Yeah, a lot of anglers do not target bass here, but I also find that a lot of anglers want to keep everything they catch. I swear some people don't even know what catch and release is.
  24. I bought a tube of megastrike but lost it before I could get a lot of use out of it. I guess I will just have to buy another! I do remember one instance where I was standing in one spot from shore, had my first nibble in 30 minutes or so, and swung and missed the fish. I came back 10 minutes later with the same 4" tube I used except I sprayed some YUM scent on/in it. A 10 inch bass absolutely creamed the tube, so I do think that scent can make a difference at times.
