It's not just you. I too am confused by their format. I remember tuning in to one for the first time and there's this "shotgun round," and "elimination round" and "knockout round" or whatever. And idk, it seemed like the rules changed, and they were like fishing different sections of the lake at times? It was all very confusing and not straight forward at all. All the different rounds seem unnecessary and extra. Pair that with the fact that basically all the anglers are throwing ned rigs or small baits at the bank for 1 pounders made the show practically unwatchable. I was under the impression that they weren't allowed to practice, and since they aren't necessarily incentivised to find or catch bigger fish- they usually don't. Don't even get me started on the event names too. We got like qualifying events? And challenge cups? And others, basically if one of these episodes shows up on my TV I have absolutely no idea what I am watching.

Same here, the floor rack I have fits 22 rods I think, but you'll only get a little over 12 combos and that's if you place them in strategicly.

Same. I love my 6'6s. Both spinning and casting. I like them better than my 7's and 7'+s for accuracy in a kayak or from the bank around trees and brush and whatnot. Once upon a time I had a 6'8 spinning and a 6'10 casting but both of them, the tips broke off relatively early in their lives- so not much experience with anything between 6'6 and 7'. A little extra length might be nice, so If I build myself a custom rod, I'll probably try for something in between 6'6 and 7'.

Has anyone seen or used KastKing's newest rod rack? Seems like a great idea to me, a good solution to storing rods inside. I'd like to see how it looks full of combos and if it can store rods with rod sleeves on. I have one of kast Kings aluminum floor rod racks and I really like it - but I may be getting one (or two) of these in the future if they work well and as intended.

It depends, but BRAID is the short answer. When you say "all things being equal" I am going to interpret the line's diameter as being the same, versus would test. LB test varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and isn't reliably an accurate way to compare lines. But, even among the different line types, braid should still cast the "best" because it is more limp than other line types. Yes, but let's use line diameter as the factor to compare lines. So you should be comparing say 40 or 50lb braid with a 10 or 12 lb Mono, Multiple reasons. Braid's biggest advantages are that it is very strong for it's size (diameter) leading to easier casting and line managing without sacrificing breaking strength. It also does not stretch at all, which helps in setting the hook whenever you need the help ( hollowbodied-frog fishing, fishing in heavy cover, long casts). Braid's main disadvantage is thought to be that it is very visible to the fish, unlike Flourocarbon which is "mostly invisible" underwater, and monofilament or copolymer lines which are still clear. Using braid with a leader of flourocarbon/mono/copolymer lines aims to 'get the best of both worlds' by still getting the advantages of braid as a mainline, but having the last few feet (what's attached to the lure) be much less visible to bass. Mono, and Flourocarbon especially also are thought to have a better abrasion resistance than straight braid, which can fray overtime fishing through hard cover such as rocks and wood. Whether it is "much better," I'm not sure, as I use braid+leader for the previous reason. 1 more reason I can think of is that some anglers prefer to use a mono/flouro leader when using braid to ADD a little bit of stretch to their line when fighting fish. I have no experience in this and I'm not sure how much stretch a 3 foot piece of mono will add, or if it will matter - but some anglers follow this belief, and I won't dismiss that it may have it's uses in certain applications. Depends on what you are using it for. I see that you are going to be fishing out if a kayak- I prefer braid in both my bait casting and spinning setups when fishing from a kayak because it helps with setting the hook. (Setting the hook in a kayak is more difficult than from a boat or on shore because your kayak can literally slide multiple feet towards the fish when you set the hook, reducing the pressure you get to put on it)

Wow, this looks like a tough one. I'll bet someone here will figure it out though. Interesting looking lure, I'm curious to find out who makes it myself.

Yeah what these guys said ^^^ lips are thinner towards the end so they cut through the water better. I think some might have a little curve to them too.

These are some great points and I'll echo that in these situations, I do the same. If I'm in my kayak, or a crowded boat, I'll shorten that distance wayyyy down. In my initial post I was more referring to a perfect situation where you are on the front deck of a boat or on shore where your casting range of motion isn't limited by these factors.

Further is better IMO. I've never understood why some will have the lure just inches from the tip - or reeled right up to the tip . If I'm casting for distance, there's probably somewhere between 1.5/2.5 feet between the lure in the rod tip. I'll shorten that to less than a foot if I'm trying to make accurate roll casts. If you ever watch a video of KVD slinging crankbaits he's got like 3 feet of line out when he casts.

Didn't get a weigh, but thinking in the 4 pound neighborhood. Caught on a Strike King Rodent on a BOSS finesse flip jig ( no skirt). Caught it on the best looking spot on the lake, a big tree fallen into the water vertically next to cliff, the only straight vertical drop on the lake.

Depends on how hot you get in the sun I guess, I prefer a pair of pants to protect me from the sun over shorts almost always. But to answer your question I think most people would say yes, as they are still light weight, moisture wicky type material, just a little bit more to them than the really really thin ones.

They are super comfortable and breathable. They are very light weight without being too thin - it still feels like I'm wearing pants, unlike my other pairs of hiking pants which are paper thin nylon which isn't very comfortable at all. I wear my pair literally every time I take my kayak out fishing to protect my legs from the sun. As an added bonus, my wife says I look good in them! ?? They are pretty cheap too at around 20-25 bucks. The one downside about them is that the sizings don't fir everyone the same. They tend to run long, and when I was trying them on in the store, I could tell that 2 pairs of the exact same size fit slightly different around the waist, so there may be consistency issues. Totally worth a look though, I want another pair or two for myself.

I don't think this will be an issue at all. Use sharp hooks and you should be able set them with ease, I'd be worried about a rod loading properly with big topwaters before worrying if you can set hooks - which I think your rod should be able to handle both fairly well. You may prefer a heavier power rod for the heavier walkers/ploppers if you throw them, but your rod should be able to do the job. This is the only problem I see with your setup. You won't be able to work topwaters with flourocarbon line, since it sinks. If you do not work your baits pretty quick, the flourocarbon will sink and force the nose of your topwaters down. If I often throw jerkbaits and topwaters on the same rig, and I use monofilament to do it since it won't kill the action of the topwaters. This is the way I would go, unless for whatever reason you really really need the extra foot or two of depth with jerkbaits.

Thanks for reminding me those exist! I've been looking for a solution to make my own punch skirts. They are a little expensive for what they are though, I might have a friend try and make some with his 3d printer

My go-to jigs are Boss jigs. I'm really partial to the wood walker style. That head has a nice flat side on the head that helps the skirt flare out and it just makes a really nice looking jig. I buy skirt material (multiple brands) including theirs and tie my own skirts with wire now.
