  1. I've been using Rio lines in 6 weight and 4 weight for a couple years now and have never had a problem with 'em. But don't overlook Cortland 444, it can get pretty pricey but that stuff is a dream come true for fly anglers.

You can fish a t-rig almost anywhere you want, it's really the conditions that determine whether I will throw one or not. If there's hurricane force winds or if the water is liquid mud then I won't fish a t-rig. But other than that I find it to be most productive around matted grass and wood cover.
  3. I can cast with both hands, I fish lefty spinning reels but I use righty casting reels. Mainly because I'm a little more accurate with my left arm and I don't like to have to switch up my hands after a cast.
  4. Mine was about a 2" spotted bass, it somehow managed to fit the 3/0 Gamakatsu hook in its skinny little mouth.
  5. My Supreme does the sane thing, and I haven't even had it for a year. I'm pretty much done with Pflueger now, I'm just gonna stick with Daiwa and Shimano.
  6. I went out and prefished for a tournament saturday on one of my "arch enemy" bodies of water, the pmaunkey river. I call it that because in the many times I have fished it in the past 5 months I haven't caught a thing, nothing. So I wasn't expecting much. We launched out of Williams Landing and headed downriver to a creek I had gotten a few bites before. My dad got a strike right off the bat on a Bagley crankbait but lost it right at the boat. Minutes later he hooked up to a feisty 2lber. and swung him in, then the very next cast he boated a 1.5lber. I was awed by this and just though, "oh my God...we're catching fish!!!". We left that creek and headed upriver to find a few more spots for the tourney. We stopped at some old dock pilings and I caught a nice 2lber. on my first cast with a shallow diving cb, then my dad got another chunky 1lber, I ended the day with another nice 1.5lber. We would have stayed longer if it wasn't for the insane wind, driving our 17ft. Basstracker felt like trying to drive a bus in a hurricane, and when there's 3 foot sweels and whitecaps on a little tidal river you know its time to leave :o
  7. Hair jigs can work fo almost any predator fish, from crappie and bream to big stripers. Hair jigs can be equally effective on largemouth as smallmouth, but they really shine in coldwater or pressured situations where fish are stressed.
  8. hmm...I have never actually used a zillion so I would have to say the chronarch.
  9. CURADO!!!!!! but then again the Zillion looks schweeeeeeeeeet, but why don't you just go all out and get a steez or a calais
  10. Those are some of the best soft-plastic baits available IMO. I use the sweet beaver on a normal t-rig, weightless, c-rig, and as jig trailer. I also use the smallie beaver on a splitshot rig, shakey head, and on a drop-shot.
  11. I have the 7' Medium Heavy jig and worm rod and I love it. It is extremely sensitive and strong, it's just a really good rod all around. I would reccomend anything made by Kistler.
  12. STAY AWAY!!! I am never buying another Pfleuger again due to the problems I have had with them. The reel is very smooth yes but in less than a weeks use mine started to whine and screech when casting and I can't even force a good accurate 100 foot cast with it now. Go with a Shimano citica or curado.
  13. Check this out, it is one of the most viewed videos on youtube now. ;D ;D ;D and does anybody know the name of the song that starts at the 3 minute mark?
  14. I do a lot of kayak fishing on small rivers and ponds, I've been looking at those Hobies for a while now and I even got to demo one a while back. I have just never come up with the $$$ for one, so I fish out of a 12' Loon. But otherwise kayaks are great fishing tools and don't require much maintenance and can go places a bassboat can't.
  15. First step, GET RID OF EVERY WIRE WEEDGUARD JIG YOU HAVE!!!!!! I've had nothing but trouble those. Get some good 1/4-1/2oz. jigs with fiber weedguards and remember to set the hook hard and fast.

  17. ;D thanks man, catch a biggun fer ma ya hear? Yeah I've been through Jekyll Island but have never fished it, a beautiful place I must say.
  18. Cool man, I haven't caught a decent sized red in over a year
  19. Wow, very nice fish :o
  20. Sweet man, you catchin em up on flats?
  21. hey reelnmn, yeah Triton9 was there and I was there with him, I was the freakishly tall kid sitting next to him
  22. Well, the wait is over everyone!!!! sorry bout the hold up, it takes quite a while for something to get from washington state to Virginia. Anyway, I had just gotten the charm in the mail about 2 days ago adn yesterday I took it out to the Calvalry Run pond. It was a pretty tough day for that place. My first couple casts with a sammy drew several boils and a couple hits but no fish. Then I switched to a 3/8oz. black.blue persuader jig and on my first pitch to a hole in the pads, WHACK 2 1/2lber. then a few minutes later I nailed 2 more dinks on the jig. After that I kept chunkin fer a few hours, and then on my last cast with a Bandit 100 series in a craw color I tied into a nice little 2lber. then I decided to pitch the jig into the same place the last fish came from BAM another 1lber on. So all in all it was kinda slow but still I got a couple more rubs in First fish of the day. crankbait fish Last fish of the day
  23. I've been flyfishing for bass for around 4 years now. My uncle is a huge flyfisherman, and he's the one who first got me into it. I couldn't afford a decent set-up so he hooked me up with a pretty nice 6wt. and now I can't get enough of it. Especially now since I caught my first flyrod trout about 2 years ago.
  24. I really like Bassmaster, the tournament articles and how-to articles are very informative and Day on the Lake is awesome. Yeah there are a lot of ads in it but it still provides a lot of useful information.
  25. GAMEOVER, big cats actually do eat bass. When flathead catfish were introduced into the james river they destroyed the smallmouth population, and we're talking big 70-80lb. catfish sucking down 3 and 4lb. smallmouth like nothing!!!!!! However, as I said before I doubt an 8lb. cat ate a 5lb. bass.
