  1. I do a lot of frog fishing in fact it's my favorite way to fish. I have 2 of these rods & they are excellent for frogging. They are the Dobyns Rods Champion XP DC 736C FH $259.99. Rated 5.00 out of 5 based on 11 customer ratings (11 customer reviews). Length 7'3". Handle Cork, Full Line Weight 15-30 lb Lure Weight 3/8-2 oz, Action Heavy Ex Fast, Applications Frogs, Pitchin' & Flippin' T/W will have a 20% off sale on black Friday (207.99)
  2. I have the Champion xp DC 703 C it's a M/H & will work for what you want.
  3. I can fish year round. The only ice I have seen in this lake is the cubes I just dumped in from my sweeeeet tea!!
  4. I Do not have that rod but have several Dobyns rods. The rod you are looking is a M/H . The Dobyns rods I use are the Sierra SA 683C & the Champion XP DC 733C which are also M/H just a different length. That rod your looking at will be fine. I have the reel your looking at is a good reel. If you want to save a few bucks look at the Shimano SLX mgl 70 it is a good solid reel. I like the mgl feature it will give a little better casting distance & is designed for lighter lures. I use a lower speed reel for moving baits something in the 6. something range & will work for what you plan to use it for.
  5. I use this on my boat cover & it works great. I retreat my cover every couple of years because it outside 365 days a year. On your bag it will last much longer. https://www.goldeagle.com/product/303-marine-recreation-fabric-guard/ I bought my cover in November of 2008 & I ordered a new one last month & it be here next month.
  6. Shimano usually excludes their products from sales due to (map) msrp pricing.
  7. I have 7 Curado's In the CU 201 series, 3 in the 6.1:1 series, 2 in the 5.1! series & 2 in the 3.8:1 series. I have upgraded the drags,& bearings. These reel are bullet proof. If this is the reels for $79 depending on what kind of shape they are in they would be worth it.
  8. I have been to France Thanks to the USN & must agree with you!!
  9. I fish Bluegill & sunfish colors often & I know many others that do also. This also applies to Colorado spinnerbait blades in clear water.
  10. I have mine since 10/30 & have had it out 3 times. I have 15 lb AbrazX on mine. It's mounted on a Dobyns Champion Extreme HP DX 743 C FH. I was fishing with a weightless senko. I have to say that is a awesome set up. Santee Cooper has a size limit of nothing below 14" In the 3 outings I caught 23 keeper bass most were about 2 1/2 lbs & a few between 3 1/2 to 4 lbs Saturday was the best outing ( least amount of wind). I am sure you are going to enjoy that reel. With the mgl feature It would get that bait out there. It was also easy for me to set up as I have other Shimano Japanese reels.
  11. I still have 7 Bantam200 series reels (greenies) I have all 3 speeds & use my CU 201B38 (B.3.8:1) For deep running crankbaits & buzzbaits in the thicker grass. It gives the a bit more time to find it & get to it. I do own a Curado 201 K XG Which I use for bottom baits. I agree they are solid reels & was thinking of getting the mgl version. Until I found a deal on a Shimano Scorpion 201 mgl Xg which is pretty much the same as the mgl K. so I was told. I will find out though.
  12. Bagley Balsa. I also use the balsa wake bait. https://bagleybait.com/
  13. If you are using regular gas the ethanol will eat the inside of your gas lines. & it will plug your engine up. You need to check your fuel filters once a year. I use Sea Foam every fill up it helps.
  14. Catt I have heard that you were fishing when Moby Dick was a minnow.
  15. Thank You Wisconsin heat, you hit the nail on the head.
  16. I am looking for a lure that imitates a bird. I had a couple one was called a red wing blackbird & the other a sparrow. I am trying to find them on line so any info would be very helpful. thank you
  17. I thought that. I was laughing out loud, it was funny
  18. Have you checked the live target 45T ? I just checked T/W The frog is 1 3/4 inches. They have 4 colors available now & have 9 more by the weekend
  19. I like a little water in my frog. It adds some weight to the frog which makes the rear of the frog hang at a better angle in the water when come to a open pocket in the cover. It looks more like a frog at rest. I leave it sit a little bit & just twitch in place, it will make the legs move just a little but enough to entice a strike if a fish has been just sitting there watching it. It also improves my hook ups.
  20. I like the Sunline products, they are a little pricey though. I use 14 lb Shooter for spinner baits & chatter baits. For Buzz baits & top water I use Defier. Depending on how heavy the cover is I'll fish the buzz on Shooter also. Both these lines have good abrasion resistance. Mike pretty much answered your question
  21. I use the Shimano Bantam mgl XG Japanese model. I have 2 of them, one on a Dobyns Champion XP DC 736 C F/H & the other on a custom build using a Shikari blank 766. Both reels are spooled with Sunline FX-2 50lb test. I frog fish in very heaver cover, mostly coontail. I lock the drag down because I don't want that fish pulling drag & wrapping me up on the coontail or stumps or what ever else is there. When I set the hook I want complete control of that fish. On the Shikari set up The on frog I fish on it is the 3/16 No Bull Frog it's 7" long. I have caught 2 L/M over 10 lbs this year so far & with the water temp coming down I am looking for another one. Those reels have a one piece frame which makes them solid, there is no movement when bringing those big girls in. You also need a powerful rod so you get them up on top quickly & that is not easy with a big fish. You usually end up with a fish & a good bit of grass. I frog fish a lot & both my set up's get the job done.
  22. What log catcher said.
