  1. Here is another big worm that works. You can fish it weightless & swim it like a snake just make sure you are holding on when you do this. http://www.gambler-lures.com/13_Ribbon_Tail_Worm_s/42.htm
  2. I have both reels & they are both the Japanese versions. Hands down the the Bantam is the better reel for what you want it for.
  3. I do not have a 664c but do have 4 of the Sierra Series 684c F/H. They work fine for all the type baits they list for that rod on there web site. I have used them for hollow body frogs up to 1/2 oz but mostly for the smaller 1/4 oz. ones. I use mine for Texas rigs & Carolina rigs also, which they really shine at. I like the full cork handle & the little more length. Sorry I could not compare but both are Dobyns 4 power so I think you would be ok.
  4. Ir's hard to tell but it does it looks like a repair job to me. The tip might might have been out of alignment.
  5. I like a Heavy Action for a Frog Rod. I also like a full handle so I use a Dobyns 736C. I have both the 735 C & 736 C in the Champion XP series. When I was looking for a Frog rod I called Dobyns Rods & ask for a recommendation for a frog rod & was told the 736C. The person that told me that was Gary Dobyns. This rod is a beast, it has the power to drive those frog hooks home. I went with the Champion XP series because I like a full handle rod. I use the 735C for the Zoom Horney Toad style baits & Crigs Rigs. Both these rods have extra fast tips & do well pitching. They are the same price so pick your series & choose Which you prefer M/H or Heavy.
  6. You asked about a Dobyns 746. I have the Champion XP DC 736 FH. I use it for large frogs,EX: the 3:16 7" no bullfrog & Carolina Rigs using 3/4 & 1 oz. barrel weights. I have no problem at all using these baits. I just have not used a football jig on this rig. I feel sure it would be no problem though as this rod is a beast. I do have A couple of the Champion Extreme HP Series rods. Other than the differences that are listed on the web site, I can tell you the the extreme series is more sensitive than the XP series. I hope that helps you some. If you have more Questions call Dobyns Rods & ask if Gary is there if is he will help, If not just tell who answer the phone you have some questions about a rod & you will get help. I have never used a Falcon Amistad rod so I can not comet on that.
  7. This is the rod I use. T/W has free shipping. Dobyns Sierra Series Casting Rod 7' Mag Heavy
  8. I must agree with WRB. I am L/H & I used a spinning reel for several years. Then ABU came out with the 5001 C bait casting reel which I think had a gear ratio of 3.8: over the time I used them I caught 100's of bass using topwater, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, & bottom style baits. In the mid to late 70's Shimano came out with the Bantam Magnumlite Plus 2001 which I think is a 5.1:1 gear ratio. Over the 20 years or so using those reels I have no idea how many bass I caught but it is a BIG bunch including double digit ones. My point is that you can catch lots of bass with lower gear ratio reels. I am a Shimano reel fan & have all the gear ratio's to 8.5:1 but my favorite series is the Antras & Calais they are in the mid range gear ratio's that are super smooth & a pleasure to fish with.
  9. Check the spec's on the Bantam. I have 2 & you will not beat them for what you are looking to do. I am with matmellon3 on this. It is one solid reel.
  10. I owned one years ago. It was a great boat. I bought a Z-21 in 2008 that was a distress sale, got a deal I could not turn down. Ended up selling the 185 but wish I still had that one also.
  11. I have the Champion XP DC 735 C F/H & it is the rod you are looking for.
  12. Here is one. https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/shimano-slx-xt-casting-reels.html
  13. The Sierra is a notch above the Fury. If it were me I would get the Sierra. I do have 7 of the Sierra line, I like the length. As swhit140 said above you should call Dobyns Rods & ask if they have what your looking for.903 919 8028. Gary told me when I was looking that they were back logged & all the refurbished were not on the site. Tell them what you are wanting it for & they might have a better deal on a different line. It does not hurt to ask & they are very helpful.
  14. I just down size my spinnerbait to a 3/16 or maybe a 1/4. I also go to the smaller willow blades or Indiana blades. I use the willow blades 1st. For the better flash. These are a reaction style bait & it acts like a bait fish getting away from something. You can also crawl it across the bottom or yo-yo it & let it fall back & lay on the bottom for a bit. A spinnerbait is a very versatile bait & will catch fish on those slow days. Research Ricky Green, Tom Mann, & Bill Dance & you probley find a book they wrote & I think Bill Dance has a DVD on spinnerbait fishing. There is alot more to fishing this bait than casting it & reeling back in. learn how to use it & improve your catch rate.
  15. This is what I use. https://www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/life-jackets/onyx-a-33-in-sight-deluxe-tournament-auto-inflatable-life-jacket/p/1416896

  17. I have a couple of Champion XP DC 734 C F/H & a couple of the Champion XP DC 733 C F/H. The 734 C is the rod I would choose between the 2 you are thinking about it's a great rod it will handle everything you listed plus some. I tend to throw a lot of lighter baits in the spring, weightless trick worms, Snakes, 3/16 oz spinnerbaits & use lighter line & I use the 733 C
  18. I believe the plastic worm was given that distinction.
  19. Wait a minute you mean to say that they even have washers, dryers, dishwashers, & kitchen sinks down where Catt lives. MN Fisher are you sure about that it means they would even have indoor plumbing.
  20. Knowing Bass by Keith Jones is a tough read but has good information in it, but is it worth $100? This topic has mention many other excellent books.
  21. Crestliner 2008 has recommended A very good book. If you read & follow what Buck Perry had to say you will become a much better fisherman.
  22. You should be just fine using that rod , as Bluebasser86 said above use a sweep set & reel fast when he has the bait. I am not a big fan of braid & use a faster reel & copoly line. The sweep set compensates for the stretch in the line & the pick up speed of the reel keeps the fish pinned.
