  1. what is the water clarity & depth?
  2. MBB I think you are over thinking things. Read what AJ had to say several times & go try that, it works. The best way to figure things out is time on the water, maybe you will make a slight change to something that works better for you. Now you are getting the idea. I have been fishing for 70 years + & Bass fishing for 50 years + & there is days on the water where I say I'll be a monkeys uncle. That is something new.
  3. I fish mine the same way you do Mobasser.
  4. I have a Curado K but not the Scorpion MGL so I can,t compare but I don't use the K for a 1/8 oz. bait. I use a Scorpion 71 for !/8, 3/16, & some 1/4 oz. depending style of bait. The K for a little heavier baits.
  5. Go to Walmart's Craft section & buy a good artist brush, I bought the brush value pack. I hang the rod handle over the edge of the kitchen table, put paper on the floor in case you use to much & it drips. Do not put to much U-40 on the brush. Just a small amount a little way up from the tip. Then put one light coat on the handle. JUST one light coat. It's easy to do.
  6. Enough said.
  7. As I said I was having trouble Skipping With the rod due to the length. I was use to a 6'6" length & due to a massive heart tack I have not been on the water in a good while. I had time to practice the other day & got better at it. Gary informed me that this rod was a year in the making & had much feed back from the people testing the prototype. I fully intend to use for skipping so I think it is the way to go. Go on the Dobyns Site & call or send a e-mail & tell them you have questions about the Champion XP DC 610 4C. They are very helpful.
  8. Sam I bought the new released Dobyns Champion XP DC 610 4C that is designed for skipping. I don't know if you read it but I talk about my day on the water with it. I really like the rod But was not very proficient skipping to start with & was using a 6'6" rod this one is a 6'10" so if you read or have read it you will understand my problem that day. This rod is a shorter version of the Dobyns Champion XP 704c. That has a Fast tip, heavy back bone, very sensitive, which I own 2 of. The 610 has a tad more power than a Dobyns 4 power blank, maybe a 1/2 power more. I feel this rod will be a very good skipping rod for me once I get use to it. Here is the heading I posted under. Dobyns Champion XP DC610 4C
  9. This rod is designed for skipping but will also make a excellent spinnerbait rod. I caught several fish Saturday on a 3/8 oz. War Eagle the biggest was between 4 1/2 to 5 lbs. I had no problem getting them out of the cover(which was not real heavy) & to the boat. They are one of my favorite baits. I also fish Texas & Carolina rigs for a while & caught a few more small ones. I also tried a hollow body frog & had 1 blow up that I missed, reacted way to soon. I think it might work with them in light to medium cover. I plan I trying that more next time out. I tried skipping & ended up changing reels 3 times before going to the hill To cut the mess I made & respool. I like a shorter rod for that But with practice I probley will get it down. I am going to put my Scorpion DC on it until I get use to it. Someone who is proficient at skipping will really enjoy this rod.
  10. I do not limit myself to 1 length rod. I have rods from 5'6" to 7'6". It depends on what I am doing on what rod I am using. My boat has 3 rod lockers so I carry plenty of choices.
  11. When I buy a Japanese reels I buy from these people & have never once had a problem. https://www.digitaka.com/
  12. If a company does not answer my questions I don't buy from them & just move on.
  13. I don't see a problem, the company says it's back stock. That should tell the buyer to ask a few questions before purchasing the product. That is what assuming does for you.
  14. That would have been my choice also, especially at that price.
  15. I bought mine from Digitaka A good while back & all the paper work is here at the house but it's Japanes Aldebaran MGL e. The reel is at the lake & due to health issues I have not been up there in a while. I don't remember if it's a 50 or a 100 size. I do know it weighs 6.2 oz. & it should serve you well. but here is it's replacement. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Shimano_Metanium_MGL_150_B_Casting_Reel/descpage-MTMB.html I would still go with the smaller one because of the price you can get it at. It is a very good reel If I was going to choose it would be the Metanium. Like I said earlier I can't compare the Scorpion MGL or the Aldebaran MGL but I do feel if you feel your at your upper limit price wise, I think the Scorpion 70/71 is a very good option. You can cast a 3/16 th oz. bait all day long. I also have no problem with a 1/8th weight & a zoom baby brush hog. I just checked the prices for you. Scorpion 70 $180.97 vs $299.99 both have free shipping. Weigh the usage against the money. Good Luck.
  16. I do not have the Aldebaran or the Scorpion mgl so I can not compare. I do use my Scorpion 71 XG with 3/16oz. worm weights & spinnerbaits with no problem at all. If you are interested here is a cheaper option on a new one with free shipping by EMS. https://www.digitaka.com/item.php?item=4969363034717. If your right handed I have 2 of these & this will do a good job casting light lures. It's a excellent price on this site. https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/shimano-metanium-mgl-low-profile-casting-reels.html
  17. I am with Bluebasser86 on this I use Gamma Copoly 14 lb breaking strength 23.5 lb. with very good abrasion resistance. I use this line wiith spinnerbaits too.
  18. Check out the Scorpion 70/71 series They will save you some money. This is what I have. They do have lower gear ratio's.
  19. Minnow did you paint that Shishamo?
  20. It depends on where I am fishing. If I am in tight spaces like up in the Cypress trees where I roll cast I use a Dobyns Sierra SA 683C F/H or a SA 684C F/H depending how much & type of other cover I have to contend with. If I am out on the stump fields or grass flats I use a Dobyns Champion XP DC 733C F/H or the DC 734 C F/H depending on how heavy the cover is. When it gets real heavy I switch baits & rods.
  21. With bait casting Equipment which I use 99.999% of the time I go by the weight of the bait. As NHBull said the lighter the bait the longer the distance to a point, not more than 12 to 15 inches which depends on the length of the rod.
  22. 50 hours is not many but I would still check the compression on the engine. I would also want to put the boat in the water & take it for a test ride to make sure there is no leaks & everything works.
  23. Just look how the Bantam is built, It's a solid reel. I have one & it has already said you will have no problem with the casting distance depending on the rod you choose to put it on. It is a amazing reel.
  24. As has been said put a good helping of KVD line & lure on the F/C the night before your going to use them & you will be fine.
  25. A longer will give you better control of the fish after hook up. I am now using a Dobyns Champion XP DC 736C F/H with a Bantam MGL on it. This is the best Frog set up I have ever used.
